A very enjoyable stay

Review of Seehotel Adler
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Jun 2018
We stayed for four nights at the end of May as we were attending a family wedding. The hotel is on the banks of Lake Konstanz, which is the largest lake in Germany and located in the south. We booked a junior suite with balcony and lake view - this was a side view. It was called the Rubinzimmer, or ruby room, and was in the new wing. I strongly recommend booking a room in the new wing as it has air conditioning. It was very warm at the end of May and we were glad to be kept cool. The room was very spacious and we had a large shower room with double basins. We paid 195 euros for the room and breakfast, with a 10% discount for staying four nights (or more).
We liked the food in the restaurant, and it was pleasant to eat outside on the terrace. Service was excellent,.
There is a spa and a good sized swimming pool. You can also swim in the lake.
We were given a card which entitled us to free travel on the local bus or train. The train station (very small)_ is right behind the hotel. From there you can travel to numerous places on the lake. We went to Uberlingen (about ten minutes), a pretty town with cafes and took a short boat trip from there. At Friedrichshafen you can visit the Zeppelin museum.
The wedding reception took place in the Zollhaus, about 200 meters away from the hotel, so there was no problem with noise.
There were few or no other British guests, and I think this is not an area generally considered by us. It is a stunning location and well worth a visit.
We flew to Zurich from Luton with Easyjet. This was not a pleasant experience. We were delayed two hours on the way out. On the way back, our late evening flight was cancelled as the airport closed for the night. We were sent to hotels around the city for a few hours' sleep before a flight the next morning and given taxi vouchers. We will be receiving compensation for this.

You would have a very hard time to find a nicer hotel located with in such a small town Nice lake views fro the rooms. Very good continental breakfast in restaurant with lake view. I was on business, so did not use the spa facilities. Spa services listed were very expensive. It is a good hotel for a business traveler also. The room had a nice work surface and the interet speed was good.

This place has really everything to be an excellent 4* hotel : great location, nice view on the lake, lovely and comfortable rooms (balcony, bathrobes, slippers, etc...), quite good food, but there are "but's" unfortunately and they are mainly linked to the service, you really do not feel like staying in a 4* hotel...

    A few examples :
    - I have straight away informed the reception that our bathroom sink was blocked/jammed, and nothing happened during our whole stay (2 nights with 4 persons in this family room and only 1 blocked sink...) At some point my husband even tried to play plumber... We were not kept informed at all during our stay...While checking out, I asked again, but the reception did not seem embarrassed or concerned at all... No real apologies or solution offer. This is not OK.
    - We were a bigger group. We were apparently denied to book a bigger table for dinner, but we somehow managed. When it came to put our dinner invoice on our room, the waitress had somehow mixed up with others orders, and was not able to correct it, so we said in the end to let it be. It was in the family, then not so dramatical, but it did not seem under control either...
    - When we checked out, the reception tried to put on us drinks/bar invoices for other rooms, no thanks, on this one, I complained heavily ! (mix-up again apparently)
    - Moreover our pre-agreed room rate (as a group) was not invoiced correctly, but more expensive ! I had to claim again, and then at last some research was made, which proved me right.
    - Last but not least : food was OK, but not overwhelming, for this level of hotel. The breakfast buffet was correct, but not exceptionnal, no fresh juice fruit for example.

I have hesitated to put this overall rating, I am not so picky, but comparing this place to others 4* hôtels, I think that it's fair.

Without doubt a nice hotel direct at the Bodensee, rooms are big an comfortable BUT NO AIRCO and this is not done for a four star hotel, it was like being in a sauna luckely they provide us with a ventilator which made it better but still much to hot! The food in the morning was wonderful with a huge breakfastbuffet, in the evening by good weather you can dine a la carte outside what was indeed very nice, I would not hesitate to stay there once more if we are in that region! Tip, when you travel in June like we dit then you can buy taste cherries near the road! (13-15 june 2017)

We were looking for a restaurant in this area but most were closed for lunch. We were told that the Adler was open. Modern hotel with an interesting menu. I had the spaghetti with prawns in a lime and chilli sauce. The other main was baked potato salad and pork strips. The spaghetti was quite bitter, prawns cooked well but the sauce was not so nice to eat would have benefitted from some coconut milk or something. The baked potato was barely warm and not fully cooked. All in all disappointing.

I stayed here for 2 nights while I had business in Singen. The help from reception was very good and the meals and service was great. The room was comfortable but was made up of 2 single beds pushed together, which kept sliding apart overnight, so was forced to sleep as a single. This would be a great place to visit during summer.
