We stayed here, just returned this past Wed; miss it already. The unit was overall surface clean; and the location was superb. We loved Maalaea Bay area; it is unspoiled, low key, and one can walk to dining, shopping, and attractions with ease. A lovely walk, at that. Loved the quietness of the area, and the condo was on a dead end street. Whale watching from our lanai was superb, and thrilling. The beach was nice (although the access was a bit treacherous), and the waves were nice and low; great for swimming and snorkeling. The view from the lanai was fantastic, and a source of continuous joy and interest.
That said, the condo was not exactly "home away from home", in some ways. The furniture was very shabby, cheap, outdated, and rudimentary, and the windows in the bedroom were so dirty you couldn't see out of them. The "decorator" touches of pseudo flower arrangements were awful. The oriental sliding screen divider was also not clean, and did not work real well.
The kitchen and bathroom were nicely updated, and the kitchen was very well stocked for all cooking, which was nice.
This unit screams for some comfort updates (not to mention above items in need of correction). A row of Shaker style hooks would be wonderful for such items as towels, hats, camera, purse, etc. Also, a front and back door mat would be advisable. We had to use face towels for that purpose. The lanai "furniture" was laughable; Wal Mart/Kmart plastic junk. Depressing... Our neighbors, btw, had the same comments. The bathroom could have used some more towel racks, and shelf space. We had to dry our towels over the shower rod, and/or on the very worn and cheap chairs in the dining area. Also, some beach items would have been nice; "noodles", coolers, other beach accoutrements. All of these suggestions would not be very expensive. A shower clothesline would have been wonderful. Furnishing updates would be great...
In contrast, our friends, who stayed up the street, and paid the same amount, had a unit (#203 @ The Banyons) which had everything anyone could want. Warmly decorated, nice touches, binoculars, ice maker in the frig, filtered water, toaster oven, nice furnishings, nice lanai furniture and table, hot tub on site. They also had state of the art entertainment (we at least had wi-fi, thank goodness). But, they didn't have the ready beach access we had (although a short walk away), and were on the second floor. We were on the first, which was nice. Our friends unit was obviously owned by a couple who take pride in their property, vs simply an investment.
FYI, if you want peace and quiet at home, keep in mind A-6 is quight literally by the pool; and with lots of activity. Which is true of all the 1st floor OF units here. Most of the time, we were fine with this; and part of the fun activity. We did not encounter any rude or rowdy people at all. We enjoyed meeting many neighbors, both residents and travelers like us. Just know it is not quiet there; and the walls/windows (which we usually had open anyway) are paper thin. So, if you want to sleep in past 6:30 am, forget it. But, people are enjoying, and the sound of the ocean is wonderful.
So, overall, wonderful time, great people there; fabulous setting in every way. Not the best "in house", but we did have a great time there. We didn't spend a lot of time in the condo, anyway. And the time we spent outside around the unit was very nice, and the every am beach walks were superb.
Just know some of the relatively minor issues for consideration. Loved the trip there, overall. Will review some of our other places we enjoyed there.
Also, BTW, Thomas, the grounds keeper, was so nice, hard working, and professional. We really enjoyed his presence.
