Hotel Cavalluccio Marino
Ranked #10 of 13 Hotels in Santa Marinella
Reviewed 20 May 2013

We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of our honeymoon in Rome: we had planned to stay for 3 nights but within an hour of check-in we swiftly changed our minds.
Santa Marinella is a pretty part of the coast but there is absolutely nothing to do.
The hotel is both old fashioned and run down, it's only saving grace was the polite and helpful receptionist. Our room smelt of damp, the shower was tiny and pitiful and the balcony was in desperate need of a good clean. Breakfast was average. Neither of us could wait to check out and head back to Rome.
We paid 140 euro's for our overnight stay: even half of this would have been too much.

An alternative on the coast near Rome for people who want to spend a last night in Italy before flying out of Fiumicino nearby.

Nearby Civitavecchia is where all the big ships come in, but even though this is a big , (sort of ) vibrant town, accommodation with a view is a bit average.

There are a number of "Roses" hotels along this coast - we went 5 minutes further down the coastal road to Santa Marinella to find the Roses "Cavalluccio Marino" hotel with rooms big enough to take two adults and two children.

The beach is a bit ordinary, but the hotel has a salt water pool on the beach which our kids loved, and the Cavalluccio Marino hotel has a nice restaurant right on the beach.

If you want to experience life truly Italian style, walk down the road 200 metres back towards Civitavecchia and find the pizza restaurant across the road from the beach, where they speak absolutely no English.

The Italians are such happy, warm people that we all had a laugh at our sign language and the food was very good.

The friendly female manager of the Cavalluccio Marino hotel was very nice too, giving us a discount for late arrival.

Next day, it was less than an hour down the coastal motorway to Rome Airport, instead of having to go right around Rome with lots of traffic to get there.
