“Great place to stay and relax in Agonda”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

Romance beach huts is situated on the extreme north side of Agonda beach. It is a very quiet end of the beach with hardly any other tourists, only the occasional friendly fisherman. The beach is very clean on this end. The huts are made out of plywood, and are pretty large (2 double bedrooms and a huge bathroom). We easily were able to sleep 6 in one hut. The decor is basic but clean, and more than enough for those who only spend time in their huts sleeping. The owners, Abul and Sarah, are extremely friendly and accommodating. They are very flexible and took care of us very well. Their food is home cooked and very reasonably priced. They also sell beer at MRP! Overall we were very happy staying here (stayed there twice in a year - April 2013 and April 2014) and can always be confident of the great food, location and hosts. Definitely recommend this place, especially if your in a group.

Room Tip: All huts are beach facing and constructed identically.

It's a great, quiet location at the north end of the beach. There is no "restaurant" music, as in most other places, but the ocean waves and the jungle sounds. This is the place to be away from it all and to unwind.
Owners Abul and Sarah are very friendly and will cook home made food to your specifications and serve it on your hut's nice little veranda facing the sea.
The fresh juices and local specialities are brilliant.
The huts are very basic but they are clean and have two double rooms and a large bathroom.
It certainly has a more private feel to it than most other resorts dotted along the Agonda strip.
We would definitely recommend Romance Beach Huts to anyone, it certainly looked like the best spot in the better side of the beach.
The general atmosphere is relaxed and before you know it you've extended your stay there. It is a very hard place to leave!!
Hope to be back the next season.
Thank you Abul and Sarah!

First time in India, we stayed over Christmas & New Year. We are two adults, one 8 year old. I've read the reviews on this page prior to booking it but thought, well, its the end of the beach, we really do want peace and quiet - the rest can't be that bad!
Yes, the huts are VERY basic and made badly, there are nails sticking out, the shower is cold (but I'm sure all the other showers along the beach were cold too!!) and I wont even start on the electrics... Authentic living!
The only thing we were really disappointed in was the owners service. They got lots of praise in previous reviews but we strongly disagree. We shouldn't have to ask for new towels and we shouldn't have to ask for new bed linens! And Sarah was a bit of a challenge to find at times...
One of our neighbors was more adamant then we were and all of a sudden we ALL got water bowls to wash our feet in (keeps the sand out and the friendly cows get a drink!) AND a hammock AND cussions for the veranda chairs! Luxury at last.
Did we let the bad service upset us? Not really, it is paradise after-all. But if we ever do go back we would look for another place to stay.

We had a very bad experience at the Romance Beach Huts. Prior to arriving we were told that there were 10 beach huts and a restaurant (our booking had breakfast included) however on arrival it turned out that 5 of the huts were still in the process of being built and there was no restaurant in sight. The hut we stayed in was very basic - the mosquito net over the bed had holes in it, the shower was cold and the floor had nails sticking out. All day long there was the sound of drills and hammers despite the huts being advertised as 'peaceful and quiet'. The owners were difficult to find and once we did speak with them they were extremely unhelpful and showed no concern about our complaints. We ended up leaving after 2 nights and booked alternate accommodation, when we tried to get a refund the owners were no where to be found and we haven't heard back from them since despite our efforts through Agoda. A very disappointing experience and I would encourage all travellers to seek other accommodation further down Agonda beach, all the other beach huts looked much nicer and the staff there were much friendlier!

Aprehensive on arrival as the owner, Abul, took us to our little red hut and didn't explain anything to us. The huts themselves weren't particularly well made but they were clean & had two good sized double rooms, a huge outdoor bathroom and a nice little veranda. They are at the far end of the beach by the estuary and so enjoy a more tranquil pace out of the main drag of tourists, hotels & bars. Sara called in with blankets and explained that there was no restaurant but she would happily make us anything we wanted and bring it to the hut. The beach has lots of friendly cows, a few scrappy dogs and hundreds of tiny little starfish which look like they have been stenciled into the golden sand.
Take a torch as the walk across the beach at night is lit only by the moon and a few twinkling lights from other huts. The sea gets rough at night so that silent sleep you are expecting...have a few drinks..this will help with the crashing waves and noises of jungle creatures.
All in all I would love to return to Agonda & Romance Beach Huts. Many other Huts seem to surround a bar area or restaurant and overlook diners & revellers rather than that stunning beach landscape. If you want to escape the rat race...but with a few token rats (Well it is India)...this is the place to unwind.

These huts are great. They are very simple little shacks at the end of Agonda beach. As the huts are at the end of the beach they're in a very quiet spot, which is really relaxing.

It's a little difficult to find but it's right of St Anne's church and the last set of beach huts right down at the end of the dirt road, just before the bridge.

The staff are very helpful, particularly a bloke called Sandy if you need anything ask him then haggle on the price, there's always room for negotiation. He literally has everything, taxi, boat trips etc etc.

Agonda beach is really beautiful, it's very quiet and not spoilt yet which is really refreshing. You can just walk along the beach and you'll find safe eateries with no issue.

If I return to Agonda I would definitely stay at the huts again.

One final point to add I think this was the only hotel I stayed in that didn't ask me to write a review on trip advisor, which was really refreshing.

As of new year 2014 romance beach huts was not fully reestablished in its new location. Huts pretty tatty and no restaurant. Not at all as advertized on web site. I think this was due to Abul the owner having a bad motorbike accident and not being able to finish the work. But seemed to be working hard so best to get update on current stuation..New location is at extreme N. end of beach which may be a good or bad thing depending on how far away from other restarants and shops you want to be.
