Stayed at Shillim in September '13. Visited with office colleagues on company offsite.
Shillim is a first off its kind retreat near to Mumbai.
Extremely relaxing to both body & soul.
The minute we stepped in the retreat we know we are in for an experience of our lives.

Rooms with stone flooring & almost no solid brick walls, but just glass walls in the room as well as bathroom was a novelty.
Was initially scared of the privacy but it was extremely safe.

Pick up golf carts are fun to travel in from your bungalow to the reception & other places inside.
Just that you have to call the cart at least 10 mins before the time you want to leave as it takes time to come pick you up.

Food is excellent. We enjoyed trekking the mountain & the view from the top was simply mind blowing.

Hospitality at Shillim was too good.
Also had a back message done at the spa which was so rejuvenating.

All in all an expensive but an amazing property.
Need at least 2 nights stay to unwind the way we did.

Room Tip: Every bungalow is just amazing, no matter where you stay.

I was there in May and liked the resort. The road to the resort was bad. Please go there only if you want absolute silence and isolation because it was extremely quiet and no one can be seen excepting a few in the dining room. The food lacked flavour and was very average. Unfortunately i could not visit the spa.
The only plus point was the gentleman who played the flute in the restaurant. It was absolutely magical. It was mesmerising.
The service was good, but the overall experience was nothing great.

Room Tip: My room had a valley view and since its not perched too high it was ok. Guess monsoon is better.

Dear Anuhshiroor,

Thank you for taking the time to review Hilton Shillim Estate Resort & Spa, we appreciate your candid feedback from your experience. Our resident flute player is thankful for your special mention. He is present daily in various spaces within the Retreat offering his tunes to all guests that wish to listen. A subtle tone carried through Shillim and accompanying our guests during their journey.

I am regretful to hear that your journey to Hilton Shillim was not comfortable. As Hilton Shillim is nestled in the serene & unspoiled landscape in the Western Ghats and has not been exploited by mass tourism, the expansion of roads and facilities on the way to Hilton Shillim is expected to be limited.

The Retreat is reachable 24 hours in case you wish to reach out. In case of any emergency guests can directly reach us and a car with a technical help is sent to them. The Retreat response team can reach out to our guest within 15 to 20 minutes as the location referred to is only 5 km away.

We have also taken a note of your comment on the quality of food. We have three dining options; The Green Table - our Spa Restaurant, Terrazzo - our all day dining which serves Indian, Arabian, Thai and Continental cuisine and of course our Mountain Bar Bistro with the Infinity edge pool, serving classics, like pizzas and sandwiches but also healthy options, from the gardens of Shillim.

Over and above we do give an option of "Dining by Design" - surprising your family with your private Chef in the Villa with a personal BBQ or dining in the Farm Garden.

We hope for another opportunity to deliver a better stay experience to you, should you return for another stay in the future. For more information on activities and events like monsoon at Shillim, masters visits etc. you can join our Facebook page or follow us on twitter.

We decided to check out Shillim since we were in lonavala. It totally wasted our weekend . The drive was about 40 minutes of the normal road from the lonavala market and 25 mintutes of an unmade road (we could feel the plight of the car tyres). On asking to look at a villa for future bookings (a few villas are for about half a lakh a night), they said that they were all occupied; on asking about dining options, we were informed that they had 2 restaurants and a bar, one of which was fully occupied . We asked for a table at the bar and learnt that there was a Rs. 3000++ per person cover charge at any outlet. We asked to see the outlets before deciding whether to dine or not and were informed that we would be taken to the outlets only if we wanted to dine! Not only was the reception staff unapologetic, there was no sense of humanity. We were not even offered a glass of water! The bar was very basic and a little dull. The bartenders suggested cocktails which were pretty good. While leaving, we asked for a brochure at th reception and were handed a brochure with hand written notes and scribbles on the back which were meant for the staff. All in all, even after traveling on unmade roads just to view the property, we returned completely dejected.

First off this resort is away from any other place and in the middle of nowhere so peace and silence is assured. Then this property is spread over 350 acres in the mountains and is an all villa resort. Villas are spread far and wide so ensuring zero disturbance from neighbours. Mobile coverage is only available in certain areas. All this makes it a great place nearest to Mumbai to let go all tensions and recharge your batteries.
Although the resort is only a year old (and still making new rooms) the villas feel very dated due to some shoddy maintenance work. Peeling paint, non closing drawers, chipped off wooden fittings, non working room latch were some of the issues we faced in the villa. Our villa had a private swimming pool (which was really great and well maintained) but it was open to the roads and people could see in and also walk in. There are no walls or shrubs to ensure privacy. In some villas even the outdoor rain showers were visible from the road.
The staff is well trained and very responsive. Every issue we had was attended to our satisfaction. Obviously issues related to design and privacy was beyond the scope of the service team. We were given a dedicated butler who was available full day and also made all our bookings for various activities. The Spa Zone has a spa pool with relaxation areas. Therapy rooms are spread all over the property so you don't travel far for your treatment. The club house pool was also huge and well maintained. The food was pretty average, with a limited menu, but most of it is grown on their own farms spread over the property. They have lots of activities for kids like horse riding, cycling, cookie classes, pottery classes, movie shows and more. Our kids were not bored for a single minute and always had multiple choices for activities. The resort has provided electric carts, Tata Nanos and Innovas for moving around the property.
Visit the resort only for the peacefulness and the service. The people make you feel like Royalty and make this entire visit truly pleasurable. They have private barbecues on offer, on your villa lawn. As it was raining during our visit, the team arranged our barbecue on a partially covered terrace in the main restaurant building. The food and service was worth the price and I am sure having it on your villa premises will be a terrific experience.

Room Tip: book a room with a private pool
