“Beautiful stay in idyllic settings”
Reviewed 19 February 2017 for a stay in May 2016

La Chatouillette is a nature lovers dream! From the babbling brook that runs throughout the woods, to the vast lake. Although I do not fish, this was the ultimate relaxing holiday destination and a stark contrast to London. Josie and Allan were spectacular hosts who greeted us with such warmth and friendliness upon our arrival with a lovely tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. Throughout our stay they were attentive and there for our every need. The gite itself is the perfect accommodation, we enjoyed our morning coffees on the balcony before our daily adventures. La Chatouillette is ideally located and not too far from the beach, we also enjoyed a lovely trip to the 'Land beach' at La Ferte Mace, although our days relaxing by the lake were an integral part of our holiday too. Would absolutely love to visit again soon and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday amongst the nature or a well stocked fishing lake.

“Wonderfull for peace and quiet with good fishing thrown in.”
Reviewed 19 February 2017 for a stay in June 2016

La Chatouillette is in the Manche, deep in the countryside, close to the border with the Orne. With the coastal town of Avranches and le Mont St Michel an easy car journey away to the west and with medieval Domfront and spa town Bagnoles de l'Orne even closer to the east there is plenty to see.
Back at the gite, the friendly hosts are on hand if you need them but not at all intrusive, they are usually pottering around the stunning garden which is yours to share. This was our second visit to La Chatouillette and we are booked again for another two weeks this year, you can't say more than that.

“Charming, with fishing what more do you want”
Reviewed 18 February 2017 for a stay in September 2016

The property is set in some lovely countryside, easy to find with a few small villages nearby for food and a meal in the evening. The owners house is next to the accommodation, which is a bonus as Josie and Allen are delightful and happy to chat and help, also were kind enough to share an evening by the lake with us, but will leave you to it if you prefer, its up to you. They were very kind in rescuing our passports and making us a sandwich pack when we drove all the way back to Calais before noticing we had left them behind. Accommodation is very good and the fishing is real fun with some big carp lurking, we managed a 16lb as our biggest but there were larger. Best fishing off the top with bread nothing fancy needed. We look forward to returning.

“Fabulous lake and gite”
Reviewed 12 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

September 2015 the last visitors of the year, May 2016 the first visitors to come.
Always a feeling of coming home, tranquil, fresh air and again the fishing was great.

Thanks Josie and Allan!

“Third time lovely at La Chatouillette”
Reviewed 13 September 2015 for a stay in June 2015

How delightful it was to be back, and how lovely to find that nothing had changed except the development of the beautiful gardens. Fantastic to see 'Bobby' rambling up to the roof now!! Everything is just perfect here - comfortable and well equipped gite, wonderful hosts and the stars of the show - the carp!! We weren't blessed with the best weather this year, but loved snuggling into our comfy accommodation and displaying our cold weather 'Nanook of the North' fashion sense during late evenings lakeside. These wily carp are realising that people catch them now - so a little more of a challenge this year, or maybe they had other things on their mind as possibly they were spawning during our stay - how rude!! Hubby is convinced that it was the old adage 'Wind in the east - fish bite the least' - and that east wind was wondrous cold. Never the less - average catch per day was around 11 or 12 all in the low to mid teens and a PB for this year was 21lb plus. All good then - and even I, the non fisher person had my own rod and managed a couple of decent fish and we did say hello to wiggle woo a couple of times. Whilst the fishing is great and loads of fun, the glory of the French countryside is on the doorstep and walking the country lanes and shopping for, and then cooking and eating the local produce in the gite's well equipped kitchen, is a major part of the pleasure of the stay for me. It's impossible to find the words to describe the magic of staying at La Chatouillette, you have to be there to understand just how tranquil and restorative it is. Thanks once again to Allan and Josie for being such generous and genuine hosts and for sharing your idyllic piece of France with us. Sadly next year we can't visit - but roll on 2018 when we can rediscover the joy of La Chatouillette. Paula and Gary

“The perfect retreat for our first family experience of France”
Reviewed 18 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

I've been trying to persuade my husband to holiday outside of Britain for many years, and La chatouillette offered the perfect amenities to entice him, in the promise of the carp lake right outside the gite.

For once, not only did my husband get to go fishing, but he also did plenty of catching, too! Many, many fish; around 20lbs and bigger than he has ever caught before! I have honestly never seen him smile so much

It wasn't all fishing, though, we all loved exploring rural France, once we had adjusted to driving on the other side of the road and using our phrase book to enhance our pigeon French! Domfront was our favourite local town .. medieval streets, a castle steeped in history, beautiful views and our favourite patisserie. We also explored a little further afield - Bayeux and Mont Saint Michel our each about an hours drive away.

Thank you Josie and Allan for making us feel very welcome and helping to make our first holiday to France a resounding success. We have all committed to learning French as a family, and have vowed to return when we are able :)

“'Wonderful people in a piece of Heaven'. Our dream holiday.”
Reviewed 15 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

The most important Allan and Josie are the best hosts we ever had. They are very kind and helpful and they would give you the feeling of being at home. We arrived on the 7th of March and Allan and Josie would welcome us with tea, coffee and delicious local made biscuits. ( you can visit the factory in Lonley l'abbaye). We simply fell in love. The gite is amazing, very home like. Under you can enjoy the game room, very well equipped. We were very impressed to discover a mini brewery in the same village with the biscuits. We arrived there to find a very welcoming man filling the beer bottles in a very small room. We asked how many people are working with him and we were surprised to find out that it was only him and his wife. You will be surprised how many attraction you can visit in these small villages.
If you want to disconnect from the city life we highly recommend The Chatouillette. Thank you Allan and Josie. Roxana,George,Diana and Calin.
