“Lovely warming food”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

Called in while passing, food amazing, owners lovely and chatty. Can't wait to come back. I had the pulled pork which was delicious and my partner had gumbo chicken also really really tasty! Can recommend both! A gem and right on our doorstep!

“Always a warm welcome & lovely food!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Visited Yeanon cafe with my partner just before and since it was in the news, and the food and staff were both great each time. We both shared some chicken wings which were absolutely gorgeous! The meat fell off the bone and the accompaniment of Caribbean curry and rice were perfect. The cafe looks a little basic, but I actually prefer that as it feels more relaxed. The young girl that works there is really friendly and is always happy to suggest things from the menu.

My boyfriend absolutely adores the rum&pineapple cake (I love the chocolate cake myself!!). The lady who owns it found it hilarious because he basically bought the entire cake to take home with him!

It's a shame that more people don't give it a try, but as long as it's open I know I'll be going back again!

“Don't judge a book by its cover”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

We popped in here for a quick lunch today and really enjoyed it. Yeanon is very small and specialises in home cooked Caribbean food as well as the usual English cafe bill of fare. Be aware that it does not look posh when you enter, but so what-it's the food that counts. We both had a delicious goat curry, with rice and kidney beans, garnished with fried plantain. The gentle and humorous owner cooks all the food from scratch and is assisted by her family. You can buy home baked products and spices if you fancy. Yeanon is different from the usual range of High Street eateries and so worth a try for the curious

“Very Welcoming, lovely food.”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

My wife and I decided to give the Yeanon try after an article in the Metro brought it to our attention.
From the outside, it looks unassuming and inside was basic with plain tables with plastic cloths. We have visited the Caribbean several times and many of the local cafes are like this. There were shelves with a range of herbs and spices for sale. These and the cooking food gave a lovely aroma to the place.
The food, however, certainly did not dissapoint. We had barbeque pork steak with basmati rice and chic peas. The pork was excelent and melted in the mouth and the barbeque sauce was nice and spicy. There was a small variety of home cooked cakes but we were too full to try them. The pinapple sponge looked very inviting. This is not a fast food place everything is cooked fresh in a traditional way.
We were served by the Owner's daughter. She and the Owner made us very welcome and we will definately return in the future. Ok so Afro Caribbean food may not appeal to everyone but please give it a try. You could have a very nice experience!!
