“Absolutely brilliant stay with perfect hosts (and a cute dog)...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

Four of us stayed at La Roos for 5 nights whilst visiting the area to attend a family wedding.
We received a very warm welcome from Bill and Maddie as soon as we arrived. My wife and I were keen to establish what the house rules were as we hadn't really stayed in a guest house quite like this before. Maddie explained that we were to treat the house like home, relax and enjoy our stay - that is just what we did.
Their home is fantastic - that absolute prefect party house. Amazing design, very interesting musically themed and very classy décor,a perfect relaxing spot for any weather / time of day / mood / drinking occasion. The grounds are beautiful, perfectly manicured and frame stunning sunsets perfectly.
We had two rooms sharing a bathroom which suited us down to the ground. The rooms were real homes from home, very comfortable with everything you could want. These particular rooms may not be suitable for couples who do not know each other, however the set up worked for the four of us.
Breakfasts were excellent and Maddie gave us a different choice very day. She even made us fruit smoothies by request. Corned beef hash was a new one for us and certainly set us up for the day.
Bill and Maddie were just brilliant hosts and couldn't do enough for us. They were great company and genuinely very, very nice people. The fact that Bill seemed to trade with neighbours in the currency of Beer, endeared us no end! His very dry sense of humour really appealed to my brother-in law and myself - ask him about the French!!
They advised us on taxis, winery tours, bike hire, restaurants, places of interest - every one a winner.
We could not recommend La Roos Maison enough and if we are in the area again, we would not bother looking for anywhere else to stay.
Thank you very much Bill and Maddie for a wonderful experience, you deserve huge success in the B&B business.
p.s. Quincy the dog is a star in his own right, he certainly keeps the cat on it's toes! Perhaps he should have been named after Randy Crawford rather than Quincy Jones ;-)
pps swimming pool was rated as average because we didn't use it.
Darren, Helen, Judith and Ricardo.

Room Tip: The rooms with shared bathroom may not be ideal for those who are not acquainted!

This B&B is wonderful. It's decorating and rooms are gorgeous, and modern. Bill and Mattie are wonderful hosts. They are sharing their house with you. Large spacious living room with a bar, and great patios to enjoy the view of Lake Erie. We had a lake view room and thoroughly enjoyed the sitting and watching the lake. Breakfast was great too.
We were surprised to have no towel racks in the bathroom and no closet, though there is a rack to hang clothes. The gardens are minimal and you can't get to the beach. We did enjoy our stan and would go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms were very nice. Your choice is for a view and/or private bath.

We recently had a fantastic stay two night stay at La Roos.

Madelyn and Bill were great hosts. From our arrival up until we departed they were warm, helpful and welcoming.

The pictures online don't do La Roos justice. The house has a great view, the yard is very nice and the interior of the house had a relaxing feel to it.

We were very happy with our room. Everything was clean and well maintained. No item or thought seemed overlooked.

On top of how pleasant everything else was, our breakfasts were delicious.

We would definitely recommend staying here and intend to return ourselves.

My husband and I stayed at La Roos this past summer. It is a beautiful place, very true; and the other reviewers are correct... I guess our idea of the "perfect" B&B experience is a little different, so I add my comments and hope they are helpful. First, most rooms have a shared bath, which we have decided now we don't like. There were no racks in the rooms to hang towels, and since there was no closet (there was, but it was locked) you had no choice but to just leave them folded on the floor. No guest soaps in the bath - had to get dressed again and go back to my room. Next, we really felt like we were staying in someone's house - we were sharing their common areas - the common areas weren't dedicated to the guests. For example, in the morning we came down to find the owners' daughter asleep on the couch. And she stayed there! Finally, we love the experience of a group of people around the breakfast table having a rousing conversation. The breakfast was delicious, but each couple was served at their own "assigned" time - agreed on in advance, but I was surprised we were sitting down by ourselves while other guests relaxed reading the paper until it was their turn, I suppose. I am rating La Roos as above average, because it was; but given other choices, I am not sure if I will go back. I will try the other area B&Bs first.

La Roos Maison is fabulous! and worth every penny! This is NOT your typical b&b and the pictures don't even do it justice! It is beautifully decorated and SO modern. We stayed for our wedding and they hosts we amazing and so accommodating. It ended up being a cold and rainy day, so we did all of our wedding pictures inside their place and they turned out beautiful and they had NO problem that we used their house for our pictures. Breakfast the next day was amazing and the owners were so personable. We will definitely be coming back again (hopefully in the summer!) Such a great little get away!

Room Tip: Lakefront #3 is awesome!

We spent two wonderful nights (Sept 28, 29) for our tenth anniversary at the beautiful estate of La Roos Maison B&B near Colchester and Harrow, Ontario.
On arrival at this lakefront home, we were greeted by our terrific hosts Madelyn and Bill. The house and property was even more beautiful and spacious than pictured on www.bbcanada.com (listing #12655) or www.laroosmaison.com . The cozy guest room we stayed in was spacious and well decorated with a king bed, a beautiful view of the lake front, willow trees, and fireplace. The clean bathroom had double sinks, with an oversized marble shower and large whirlpool bath. The Great room was warm and welcoming with a fireplace and a cathedral ceiling. The room also contained a large bar and 67” TV that we were welcome to view and enjoy. Our hosts were very friendly, accommodating and entertaining.
Madelyn and Bill prepared our delicious, fresh breakfasts with omelettes and quiche, fresh fruit, baked peppers with secret sauce, fresh banana bread, croissants and other savory treats.
This delightfully quaint area of SW Ontario, afforded us enjoyment on our day trips which included: the smaller wineries in this area; as well as our farm visits in search of fresh apple cider, local paprika, apples and fresh produce; and our trip to Harrow were we enjoyed “the best coffee in town”.
We dined at Ducks on the Roof, which we enjoyed an excellent maple salmon and a New York strip steak.
La Roos Maison was a great place to rest, and relax from the hectic pace of the regular work week. It was well worth the visit. We definitely plan a return trip for more R&R. Many thanks to our hosts for the peaceful, relaxing and inviting visit!

Room Tip: Lake view rooms would be my recommendation.

My group of 3 couples spent two wonderful nights (June 18 and 19) on our annual June wine country tour at the luxurious La Roos Maison B&B near Colchester and Harrow, Ontario with our terrific hosts Madalyn and Bill.
On arrival at this lakefront home we were amazed that the house and property was even more beautiful and spacious than pictured on www.bbcanada.com (listing #12655) or www.laroosmaison.com . The guest rooms were luxurious, spacious and well appointed with king and queen beds. One of the rooms had an ensuite bath decorated with marble shower / countertops with double sinks. The two other rooms shared a bath with dual sinks, mable shower and large whirlpool bath. Renovations are underway to add a bath so each of the three lakeside bedrooms would have its own.
The Great room was indeed that, with 20’ ceilings. I am not sure of the exact size but guess it was approximately 30’ x 50’. The décor was eclectic; Bill’s collection of jazz musician statuettes and music themed paintings was exceptionally nice. The room also contained a large bar and 67” TV that we were welcome to view and enjoy.
Madalyn and Bill are very engaging hosts who go out of their way with great conversation and great food to make your stay enjoyable. The breakfasts are wonderful with eggs benedict, omelettes, fresh fruit, baked tomatoes and many other delights.
The newer, smaller wineries in this area are minutes away and well worth visiting as most of our group felt that the quality of many of the wines was better than in Niagara, the Finger Lakes and Prince Edward County. There were some great deals on Reserve wines that were at their peak - $28 bottles going for $15.
In terms of dining out the patio at View Point Estates Winery serves great light afternoon fare. Caldwell’s Grant in amherstburg has a nice menu – in particular the seafood hot pot at $20.99 was excellent. Ducks on the Roof, while in need of a décor upgrade, served good casual food. We enjoyed the Lake Erie perch and the trio that added pickerel and froglegs. Don Luciano’s in Amherstburg is also excellent.
La Roos Maison is a great place to relax and unwind. It is well worth the drive from Toronto and area.

Room Tip: Request Lakefront 1, 2 or 3.
