We chose Arhontiko via Alpha Guide (if you don't have it, buy it, it's very useful) and we were totally satisfied by our choice. First of all, it is just 1 hour and 45 minutes from Athens, and the road (especially from Kiato to Kefalari) is very good, which is rare for greek mountain roads. The village itself is nothing special, but the hotel along with the nearby tavern make the difference. An old house (built around 1880) beautifully renovated, with taste and expensive materials. The room was warm and beautiful, a real gem for romantic souls. The breakfast was superb, and the price ok: 80 euros per night for a front room with fireplace. Also, the food at the nearby tavern (Gefsi kai Oinos) was excellent, by far better than at the trendy Trikala... We made an excursion which in fact was the round of the mountain Zireia. Be sure you visit the very interesting museum of Stymfalia Lake Environment (opened May 2010), the picturesque lake Doksa at Feneos and Trikala for a coffee or sweets. But if you want a nice room at a good price, far away from the idiots with the Jeeps that abound in the mountain in the winter weekends (especially in Trikala), try Arhontiko at Kefalari, or probably a hotel at Kastania, Gkoura or Karya.

We arrived rather late in the afternoon, towards end of September, at the hotel.
It seems closed, after some telephone calls of some local people a very friendly woman opened the hotel.
We had a very nice and clean room. She showed us 3 rooms so we could chose.
The rooms we saw were all lovely and romantic.
She told us the hotel is in winter very populair with people from Athens.
We only stayed for one night, and were the only quests but breakfast was perfect.
The environment surprised us a beautiful ancient landscape nice for walking and are also some ancient topics to visit.
So altogether is was a surprise, worth coming back.
