After gazing longingly at the tipis in the tipi field at Glastonbury year after year, I was thrilled to book the White Blossom Tipi for the Easter weekend. The excitement grew as we parked the car in a field and wheel barrowed our belongings the short distance to the secluded pitch surrounded by hedgerows of white blossom where stood our magnificent tipi. Inside we were thrilled to see the chiminea and with Charlie's instructions set to to light it. The kettle was on, stove and all apparatus provided and bedding put ready. Instructions from Charlie also enabled us to successfully open the top of the tipi to prevent us turning into kippers. Once settled we ambled the 10 minute walk to the nearest pub, California Hotel, which was lively and warm, serving adequate bar snacks and spent an enjoyable couple of hours chatting to local people. Once back at the campsite we lit our fire just outside the tent and finished with a night cap while listening to the night animals, an occasional sheep, an owl et Everyone else seemed tucked in their yurts and tipis but due to the secluded spots it was difficult to confirm this. Sleeping on a pine bed in a tent was a novel experience but a joyous one and the several layers of quilts were soon kicked over as we roasted inside the tipi. The chiminea was lit in the morning while we had our cooked breakfast and relaxed in our cozy abode. A visit to the drop toilets was not the dreaded deed experienced at festivals as fairy lights at night lead you there and cleanliness was next to none. A hot shower in the new block was enjoyable and also the place to buy your free range eggs which made breakfast all the moor enjoyable. Table and chairs in this new build provided space to play games (provided) or just write the odd postcard (also on sale), all spotlessly clean.
So to summarise, we had a fantastic three nights on a site which can only be described as beautiful. The 5? tipi/yurts are so spread out that we rarely saw others except for the occasional hello in the shower building. However, I must add that a great last evening was spent round a communal fire pit with Alice and Cameron and their parents and the covered communal table was often used by families/groups to enjoy their barbecue. The weather changed and yes there was the odd drip of rain but after years of camping, putting up our tent in wind and rain, crawling shivering into the damp inners, this was bliss!
