Wild Grass Lodge
Reviewed 19 January 2013

In December we spent three nights at WIldGrass. The resort is set in several acres of land, and one can either be alone or mix with the guests - there is no hurry or pressure on the guest.
The elephant trek is not to be missed. It was one of the highlights of our stay in India this year. We were also fortunate to see a tiger stalking a herd of swamp deer- apparently a sighting is a relatively rare experience in the park. On elephant, you can get within feet of the rhino population which is quite exciting.
The management could improve the experience of the guests by advising them in advance of the events e.g. village dancers, timings of films etc, The management should consider providing buffet mealsrather than table service so as not to exhaust the serving staff.- but these are relatively small criticisms of an excellent holiday resort.
The staff are superb - They are hard working (in fac, a little overworked in the meals area, and it would assit them if extra staff was employed). they were also very courteious and attended promptly to any request.
We can highly recommend the place, which would be assisted by a more "hands on' approach by manangement.

I talked with Manju Da for my booking. I asked him for taxi booking as well. I was getting little cheaper taxi deal. I told same to Manju Da, and so he advised me to to book with others. My inner voice told me to book with Manju Da, I did so. And I DONT regret paying more.

Manju Da and his staff is always alert to make your trip joyful. The food is extremely good. The ambiance is excellent. We stayed in cottage, dorm for 8 persons. The bathroom is at 10 feet distance, detached. Initially we were little scared, but soon understood that the campus is safe! The tea is served in the room, food is to be taken in dinning only. But the ambiance of all structures is such a nice, that you feel like staying for some more time.

We stayed for two nights and so could really enjoy our stay. I recommend two days stay here for joy safari.

Manju Da is highly reliable person! just go along his advice.

My kid was little sick during the stay. Resort has arranged for the 20 Km trip to doctor on my request. They took us in Innova to the doctor, and they were not seem bothered for the expense, but to serve! The another person accompanied us so we should not get any trouble in locating proper doctor, and the person really took care to make us to meet proper doctor.

I strongly advice this property for stay with family.

A great place to stay in Kaziranga. Really value for money and it has got an old world charm to the place. The food was excellent too and the guides provided by them were really. The chef even came out and explained the preparation which he had made which was really nice

We have been to Kaziranga twice and have stayed at wild grass both the times. They organize Elephant and jeep Safaries to the nation park. They have a lot of trees and plants in the property and each plant has a description. They serve home made pickles made by the owners wife. Very friendly owner and staff. Will highly recommend this place to anyone who goes to Assam.

A great little hotel, not everyone speaks english but both owners do and they are very hands on and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is very good, the excursions are very good especially the morning elephant rides, the guides very friendly, our guide even took us to his house for tea and introduced us to his village and family which was great. The Assamese are vey genuine and friendly without wanting anything in return which is refreshing for India!
The eating area is charming and there is a lovely area in the varenda that one could have tea or a drink in the evening.I suggest you get your guide to take you to local markets and villages and visit the tea plantations, where the ladies picking tea are very nice, all this ofcourse after you have done the park at least 3 times, and try all 3 different areas of the park, they are very different to each other.

Myself, my wife and 10 year old son spent 4 nights at Wildgrass in Nov 2012 and it was time well spent. We stayed in a cottage, away from the buildings, so dont know about the wooden floors making a noise or about dim lighting. It seemed ok to us. Hot water is available for bathing but you need to give it some time. They have generators so when the power fails at least we have lights. The restaurant has VERY LIMITED food choices but what they offer is well made. And they give freebies like soup with every meal and often throw in another dish as well. Evening tea and snacks are on the house. Warning : service is very slow. They take forever to prepare so order at least 2 hours in advance

The best part of course is the safaris. Their guides are very good. We went with Palash, one of their oldest guides and he made the whole trip worthwhile = pointing out birds and animals even when out of the park, best camera angles, landscape photo opportunities.. ...

Highly recommended

Room Tip: Ask for the cottage if available

Little has changed in Wild Grass in the last 12 years...rooms better furbished but the same old world charm of hospitality, good cooking, interest in nature... is still there. The rooms are clean, hot water is always there and maintenance staff easily avaialable if something is not working.

The best part of this place are the guides...the knowledge that they have is awesome. Makes every jungle visit a learning experience. The staff is very friendly...we had local Assamese food as well as our own food requests were met with a smile! They even served us dinner in front of TV so that we could watch a Federer match! Also my son loved playing Badminton games right after a Jungle trip so also keeps kids occupied...

One recommendation to the Lodge - please keep some wild life books specially the ones on the Rhino...

Room Tip: Cottage is not that great so a normal double room better. If you have knee trouble, ask for rooms on...
