Lianshulu was, by far, the most expensive place we stayed in Namibia but, Vincent, the new manager (he had been on the job for only a week) was excellent, making sure that the highest level of hospitality is provided. Our room was very large and comfortable and right on the river's edge. Electrical power is limited but solar lights are provided at night. Because (dangerous) hippos, elephants and cape buffalo can get into the camp we were always escorted to and from the main lodge. Dinner was a candle-lit table set outside where you can watch the river go by. Food is average to good. The river cruise and walking tour are both well worth taking as there is lots of wildlife to see. Recommended if you don't mind the price.

This is a classic case of a stunning setting messed up by really bad service. We arrived and were in awe of the lounging area of the lodge. Our expectations were rather high as it was one of the more expensive stays we selected in the region.

Friendly enough arrival but we were then entertained by a "canned" talk as to how bad the electricity supply was and it took for ages to get the message across which included a time table for it being on and off, not to move around unaccompanied.. some message about calling them when you need to move around... long and the short of it, the sweet receptionist wasted our time with a message we did not understand as we got bored. A memo of services noting all of this would have sufficed.

We got told by the manager that their emphasis was on personal service and that was the last of the "Personal" service we experienced. On going to our rooms - the keys were simply just not available which had us standing in front of our rooms for about 10 minutes at least whilst they were trying to locate who had the keys. One would think reception or even in the door as you arrive is a good place for the keys.

Rooms are really nice, clean, good décor, and an interesting shower with a view of the river. Privacy of the rooms from the other rooms was very good. All this messed up when you stepped on the porch which has a great view of the river and baboon crap all over the chairs outside. So it is a wild area, but again, quick clean before the guests arrive.... one would think. One thing they were right about, the electricity supply to the rooms are BAD - you could NOT charge your cell phone at all!

At dinner we developed the a new gauge for lodges - the bread roll test! We were served nice warm bread rolls and when we asked for another round, we were met by an "Ooooohhh, not sure we can do that" - I am not joking. They had obviously budgeted only one bread roll per guest. The food was a bit BLAND as it a set menu and for such an "UPMARKET" expensive lodge, to be served Beef Fillet was very disappointing. Needless to say, every other lodge we stayed at afterwards passed the bread roll test.

We then asked for a river boat trip and we got RIPPED off at N$480 per person. (3 of us) Firstly it was clear that they did not have another guide to accommodate our request. This was resolved after some hesitation and we were taken by a replacement - he was very keen on his birds but without his bird book, he might have been lost. Then we got to within about 75m of Hippos and the guide would just simply not go closer - we really got the impression that he was simply not equipped with the local knowledge to deal with wild animal interactions. Very disappointing and VERY EXPENSIVE given the lack of quality.

The next day we refused an offer of lunch as we were on our way to a nearby lodge which we voiced aloud. Clearly we were told we might be disappointed with this location - not a good call to cast doubt on a MUCH cheaper competitor. In addition, the staff seemed to ALL come out and were hovering to the extent that I thought they were all expecting a generous tip, including our guide.

We were very disappointed with this Lianshulu Lodge as our expectations were very high in alignment with the price we paid! We felt we were ripped off and paid an excessive amount of money to stay there.

Dear Willem IR, we regret that your experience at Lianshulu was not to your expectation and that there was a break down in service. There is absolutely no excuse from our side as owners / shareholders of Lianshulu for this type of service as we place a VERY high regard on having an ultimate african experience. The service shortfalls and the overall quality of service is being addressed and we can assure you that there will not be repeat of what happened and hopefully we be able to welcome you back to our wonderful area of Africa.

Very nice setting on the Kwando river on the eastern side of the Okavango panhandle. The chalets all have a view on the river and the hippos. Good boat trips with plenty of hippos, elephants and crocs. Also possible to do game drives in the park, either guided or using your own car. This lodge reopened in Oct 2012 and is in recovery mode. Note that it is not owner-run, which means individual tables and limited interaction with other guests. Suitable as a 2 night river stopover if you are travelling through the Caprivi.

Lianshulu is a pretty property that lies on a picturesque bend of the Kwando River. It is really nice to visit the Caprivi if you have been in the desert regions of Namibia as it is lush and green and it is quite a relief to see water. We are warmly welcomed by our guide, Delicious, and with some local music.
The rooms are large and there is a generous balcony overlooking the river. It is a more traditional lodge with thatched roofs and old school style. It was explained to us that electricity was patchy and the rooms switch to battery at night. Basically, if you wish to read in bed at night you can pretty much forget it. The lights flicker are very, very dim at night in the rooms, and we even woke up in the morning with no lights at all, so it was quite tricky getting ready for a safari.
The food as this lodge was the worst we experienced on our entire 2 week trip to Namibia. We were greeted with a very poor one-plate lunch of a pretty dried up quiche thing and a very indifferent salad. Dinners were more plentiful but unfortunately equally unpalatable, and sometimes a rather puzzling combinations of food.

Dear JPSK_13, thank you for your constructive criticism - the service issues and the poor standard of food are being addressed - it is unfortunate as there is no excuse for poor food and bad service and we apologize for this. Hopefully we may one day be give another chance by you being our patron so that we have the opportunity to redeem ourselves.
