We stayed at the resort for 5 nights over a extended weekend. From the flight in to the immediate pickup from the airport you are wisked away to the docks then off to the island. The staff upon arrival was great, meeting us dock side then off to check in. No rooms available so we had lunch in Tierra Tierra, service was god awful. We sat at the bar, but the bartender did not help us only the server did, we had to follow up with the front desk to find out our room had been ready for a while.
Main pool area is nice, Sandy the lower bartender was outstanding. We truly enjoyed spending time with her, and Eddie was a great help through out the time we were at the resort. Always remembering our names when we passed. We did a excursion through Dive BVI, all of there employees were great, and very knowledgable about the islands.
The room itself was very nice, large, but paper thin walls, we could hear the family next to us every time they woke up or moved through out there room. The doors on our balcony never close all the way, so we had to tie them shut which is absurded. The shower created a river every time we used it since it had no seal on the side of the glass. Causing the bathroom to be unsafe and slippery mess.
The main highlight was North Beach, secluded and almost people free, the food is much better at the snack bar then at the main hotel. Room service has a very limited menu, and no mini bar in the room. Didn't make sense to us, but there is a small grocery store on-site.
Overall service at the hotel was average for the price point, drinks were nice, food wasn't anything special though the location was beautiful, all of the Caribbean is beautiful an not as secluded.

Room Tip: The further away from the dock the quieter at night.

So sorry to hear about bad service at Tierra Tierra, we will bring your comment to the manager so it can be addressed. It's been one week since we left Scrub Island and the memories of the blue, clear water, private beach and warm hospitality of the Scrub staff still lingers in our conscienceousness. How I wish I had the date for my next visit already planned.

From a previous trip advisor review, we made it a point to fly into Beef Island to make our ferry ride over easy, timely and accessible. The ride takes 10 minutes. While we waited at the dock for its arrival, I walked over to the little bar at Trellis Bay (30 yards) to get my wife and I a drink. A great way to start a trip. Once on board, you take in all the surrounding islands and the ride teases you for what you know will be a great trip. As you pull into the marina, you see all the amazing boats tied up for a brief stay at the resort. This is for the water experienced sailors and boaters who island hoppers. It is not a big marina, rather a small sanctuary for boats and fish together. We were greeted by the ever smiling Melissa - our online host who emailed us prior to our arrival to plan our experiences and any activities. She was great during our stay along with all the front desk staff. Really cannot over state the service and warm welcome we received by the staff at Scrub. Everyday at Scrub, the staff recognized our faces and made certain the hotel was meeting our expectations. Our room was amazing; third floor, over looking the whole marina which is lit up under water at night. Having a really nice balcony, it made sitting out at night very romantic. Room service including housekeeping do a great job. Turn down service was nice because we always had extra sweet chocolate left for us...wife and I both love the Chaco!

We had dinner at both restaurants, one really nice inside restaurant and an outdoor grille and bar. Both are perfect for your occasion or need. The manager; Dale, knows the wine choices well and provides a great local flare to the service. The only "critique" would be for the waitresses to have a little more patience with the customers. Our challenge at first was understanding the four course menu and substituting the fresh lobster. But also, we wanted to taste some of the featured wines and the waitress didn't quite understand "tasting". Thanks to Dale, he assured a fine dining experience. We used Dive BVI at the resort for a day hopper trip. Although their "tour" boat was still out of service, we had a great time on the scuba boat and with the staff. Willie T's was a blast and the snorkeling was great. The front desk woman at the Dive BVI shop was extremely helpful and nice.
Recommendation: go to North Beach at Scrub. Staff takes you over in a small van. We literally had the whole beach to ourselves! They have a hut with bar and food service that Mark runs. Mark was a blast! Great guy with great stories from his experiences running bars from various resorts. He was accommodating and recommended our own romantic spot on the beach. Our day at the beach and drinks at the "one shoe bar" was the highlight of our trip. It was like we were on a deserted island with drink service! We tried the spa after our day in the sun at North beach. So glad...did a couples message. Ever had the hour message where their 5 minutes into your time before they call you back? They got us in 2 minutes before and did not stop rubbing until the 62 minute mark. They don't rush or nitpick your time. They are there to make your experience unforgettable. After our message, they suggested we swim in their infinity edge pool overlooking the ocean...incredible!

Go through the front desk to charter your own boat service if you want to go island hopping on your own. With help from the staff there, we rented a captain and a 38' Contender boat. It was great because we were able to get around quickly and not get rocked by the waves.

Finally, with little mention of the grounds, pool and rooms...I really don't need to because the property overall is excellent. I highly recommend this property for a honeymoon, anniversary or as I told the staff there...my "girlfriend" for twenty years. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this little paradise in the BVI.

Side note...you got to see Jost Van Dyke and experience the Painkillers and all the worldly people taking in the sun and sand on that party island! With drinks in hand and your toes in the sand, people from all over share a good feeling rarely experienced in the mainland.

If you go to Scrub Island, share your island experience! Wishing you well on your travel to the BVI.

Brad & Sandy Wells

Room Tip: Ask for a large room over the marina.

Recently returned from a one night stay at Scrub Island, and must say the best part was the dinner in the Caravela restaurant.
The pool on the main floor was nice but due to having a water slide, kids were screaming and yelling all day in it. The 2nd pool above was better, it was an infinity pool and you got a lovely view of the water and marina below, and surrounding islands. The chairs around the pool were very comfy, and towels were provided to you, but the majority of them were in quite bad shape. for an "autograph collection" hotel we were quite surprised to see the poor state of the towels (bleach spots on them, holes in them, a few had stains on them etc) lunch was okay at the outdoor pavilion area. We took a short bus ride down to the beach they call "north beach", we were the only ones there, except for a bartender (who was extremely grumpy and rude) and what seemed to be 2 locals, my friend and i went to order drinks and we heard them say a few crude things about us. Be mindful when ordering drinks because they have no price list, or drink list, so after ordering 4 margaritas (that came in small plastic cups) a fruit juice and bottle of water, it was $58!!. The beach was covered in rocks and very sharp shell pieces, and to be able to swim in any area you had to navigate over sharp rocks and coral in the water itself, I almost cut my foot open on a conch shell twice. We were only told the following morning that you had to walk ALL The way to the right side of the beach and there was a small clearing where you didn't have to be so careful of where you were stepping. The main beach that is right by the marina again is covered in rocks and shell pieces and in the water is covered in small seaweed plants and more sharp rocks, so its hard to navigate to get to a safer area to swim. We were just so disappointed about the beach, but dinner made up for it. It was a 4 course set menu for $60/person. it is SO worth it. Chef Davide is an incredible chef, and everything tasted so fresh and vibrant. The breakfast the following morning was good too.
We will be returning but will be mindful of the cons mentioned above.

Thank you for your recent review of your visit to Scrub Island and to our Caravela restaurant. We are so glad that you stopped by to visit us and enjoyed your meal in our fine dining establishment. Thank you also for your feedback about our pools and the beaches. We take all comments seriously and use guest suggestions as a way to improve our facilities. As to the beaches, there is quite a lot of coral around our island which makes for excellent diving and snorkeling but does create havoc on the feet. We usually recommend water shoes for our guests and point out the areas where you can more easily wade barefoot. We will address your concerns before your next visit and hope that you will find everything in order when you arrive at Scrub on your next trip.

Thank you,
Martin Smith, Managing Director

We moored off Scrub Island resort whilst on a bareboat charter just for one night and went ashore to have a drink and some food. The atmosphere in the bar was very relaxed with great seascape views to accompany the Rum Punch. Had a bar meal (just burgers I think), which were a little pricey, but very good. There was a little wierdness about starting a tab whilst at the bar and then having to close it and start another one when we sat down, which I still don't understand! Very enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Thanks for your review of your recent stop off at Scrub Island. We are glad that you came ashore for the night during your barefoot charter. Thanks for your feedback about the rum punch and beautiful views.. and sorry for confusion over setting up a tab during your visit. We will look into the issue as it does not seem to be our general way of handling it.

We do hope that you will come to visit our private island again in the future and that you can stay a little longer. In the meantime, we wish you safe travels.

Sincerely,
Martin Smith, Managing Director, Scrub Island Resort

Scrub Island is a paradise. It is a small island located in Tortola. They have been building it for a couple of years now and when I visit with my family every year, there is something new. You have various beaches including several outdoor activities such as paddle board, kayak, inflatables, etc. They also offer snorkeling. The staff is very nice and they are always eager to help. The food is extremely expensive; however, it is a vacation spot for tourists, so you can't expect it to be cheap. The island is also located in a perfect location because it is around 30 minutes from other tourist spots such as Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda.

Thank you for your review of your recent visit to Scrub Island. We are pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and mentioned all the activities that are offered at our tropical paradise. As you noted, Scrub Island is situated in the middle of BVI so we are a great spot to enjoy island hopping from our luxurious base camp. As to your comment about the expense of the food, we do have to ship everything in which makes everything a bit more pricey, but we do offer other options such as the deli at our marina and Tierra Tierra as a more affordable place to dine. Again, we thank you for taking the time to feedback on your trip and we hope that you will visit us again in the future.

Sincerely,
Martin Smith, Managing Director
