It's been one week since we left Scrub Island and the memories of the blue, clear water, private beach and warm hospitality of the Scrub staff still lingers in our conscienceousness. How I wish I had the date for my next visit already planned.
From a previous trip advisor review, we made it a point to fly into Beef Island to make our ferry ride over easy, timely and accessible. The ride takes 10 minutes. While we waited at the dock for its arrival, I walked over to the little bar at Trellis Bay (30 yards) to get my wife and I a drink. A great way to start a trip. Once on board, you take in all the surrounding islands and the ride teases you for what you know will be a great trip. As you pull into the marina, you see all the amazing boats tied up for a brief stay at the resort. This is for the water experienced sailors and boaters who island hoppers. It is not a big marina, rather a small sanctuary for boats and fish together. We were greeted by the ever smiling Melissa - our online host who emailed us prior to our arrival to plan our experiences and any activities. She was great during our stay along with all the front desk staff. Really cannot over state the service and warm welcome we received by the staff at Scrub. Everyday at Scrub, the staff recognized our faces and made certain the hotel was meeting our expectations. Our room was amazing; third floor, over looking the whole marina which is lit up under water at night. Having a really nice balcony, it made sitting out at night very romantic. Room service including housekeeping do a great job. Turn down service was nice because we always had extra sweet chocolate left for us...wife and I both love the Chaco!
We had dinner at both restaurants, one really nice inside restaurant and an outdoor grille and bar. Both are perfect for your occasion or need. The manager; Dale, knows the wine choices well and provides a great local flare to the service. The only "critique" would be for the waitresses to have a little more patience with the customers. Our challenge at first was understanding the four course menu and substituting the fresh lobster. But also, we wanted to taste some of the featured wines and the waitress didn't quite understand "tasting". Thanks to Dale, he assured a fine dining experience. We used Dive BVI at the resort for a day hopper trip. Although their "tour" boat was still out of service, we had a great time on the scuba boat and with the staff. Willie T's was a blast and the snorkeling was great. The front desk woman at the Dive BVI shop was extremely helpful and nice.
Recommendation: go to North Beach at Scrub. Staff takes you over in a small van. We literally had the whole beach to ourselves! They have a hut with bar and food service that Mark runs. Mark was a blast! Great guy with great stories from his experiences running bars from various resorts. He was accommodating and recommended our own romantic spot on the beach. Our day at the beach and drinks at the "one shoe bar" was the highlight of our trip. It was like we were on a deserted island with drink service! We tried the spa after our day in the sun at North beach. So glad...did a couples message. Ever had the hour message where their 5 minutes into your time before they call you back? They got us in 2 minutes before and did not stop rubbing until the 62 minute mark. They don't rush or nitpick your time. They are there to make your experience unforgettable. After our message, they suggested we swim in their infinity edge pool overlooking the ocean...incredible!
Go through the front desk to charter your own boat service if you want to go island hopping on your own. With help from the staff there, we rented a captain and a 38' Contender boat. It was great because we were able to get around quickly and not get rocked by the waves.
Finally, with little mention of the grounds, pool and rooms...I really don't need to because the property overall is excellent. I highly recommend this property for a honeymoon, anniversary or as I told the staff there...my "girlfriend" for twenty years. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this little paradise in the BVI.
Side note...you got to see Jost Van Dyke and experience the Painkillers and all the worldly people taking in the sun and sand on that party island! With drinks in hand and your toes in the sand, people from all over share a good feeling rarely experienced in the mainland.
If you go to Scrub Island, share your island experience! Wishing you well on your travel to the BVI.
