My wife and I spent a week at Scrub Island from July 14 - 21. Before I start, let me say that there are some hurricane renovations still taking place. With that out of the way, this is clearly the time to go. Nature is taking back rapidly and the only signs of Irma’s wrath are some stranded boats (great photo ops) and some structures still being repaired.

What was really great though is the crowds have stayed away. Attractions that may typically be packed with tourists you may find you have to yourself. We wondered the Baths with almost no interruption from others. Swam the caves in the baths by ourselves. Visited Willie Ts and drank plenty of pain killers and jumped from the back with just a couple other couples. We visited Jost Van Dyke and the Soggy Dollar and there were just a handful of boats and people. We Snorkeled caves and the Indians with just the members of our boat. On many days, we sat on the beach at Scrub Island and had the beach and ocean to ourselves. We ventured into Tortola one day, not much to see but we did find our way into Pusser’s for lunch, drinks and a great gift shop.

We hiked the steep hills of Scrub Island almost daily and felt like we were on our private island. We ate breakfast and dinner at the resort everyday. We ate many lunches poolside. The food was excellent and contrary to what others have said, I didn’t think the prices were as high as others led me to believe. We spent $2000 on the island. That includes a day at the spa where we spent a quarter of that. Well worth every penny I might add. We consumed LOTS of beverages, champagne, fantastic meals for an entire week. Bought wine in the resort market and the gift shop on sight had a sale while were there so we stocked up on $10 t-shirts.

The resort was quiet, relaxing and beautiful. The other thing we really noticed was the people. I can’t say enough about how friendly everyone was. On one hand, I wish for them that more people were visiting so they could earn a better living and they could personally put Irma behind them but on the other hand, it was amazing to enjoy one of the most beautiful Caribbean vacations in relative peace.

Transfers were simple to and from the airport. Ferry service runs all the time and is on schedule always. We had a basic ocean front suite. It was comfortable and well equipped. There are some rooms with bigger balconies. It would have been nice to have that but not a deal breaker. We snorkeled on the Main beach in front of the resort. Plenty to see and very easy snorkeling. North Beach waters were very shallow. The pool and snack bar on North Beach was not open yet. But the couple times we ventured down to it, we had the beach all to our selves. Found a good stash of shells and sea fans that had washed ashore. Let me mention the spa again. A must while you are there. Evening strolls to the end of the dock to watch the dozens of large Cobia gather and fees became our nightly ritual. Words can’t describe it. You just have to see it.

All I can say is go now and have a slice of paradise to yourself. The tourists will be back soon and it will still be great...it just won’t be all yours.

A luxury resort in paradise...Don’t let the recovery from the hurricane turn you off, this resort is functioning and is almost back to being fully in business.
We spent a few days here at the tail end of our holiday, largely in part to the ideal location close to the airport.
Our two families who shared a luxurious villa complete with private pool were treated like royalty. Attention to detail was noticed and appreciated. The villa and pool newly renovated, the staff were helpful and friendly. The kids particularly enjoyed the water trampoline in the cove and the tiered swimming pools. We adults had loads of fun at the spa, which had lots of pampering options performed by skilled technicians. The restraurant served fresh seasonal specials and was complimented by excellent friendly service and a knowledgeable sommelier. We would come here again and would recommend this resort in the beautiful BVI’s.

You must understand this could be a 5 star resort, but not until they complete their repairs and rebuild. They are currently open and the rooms rates are reasonable because the resort is not fully functioning yet. you must keep this in mind as you consider this resort.
we had a 1 bedroom suit. very nicely decorated, beautiful covered deck overlooking the Marina. very comfortable king bed, very clean. High end kitchen complete with everything you might need. unfortunately there is no grocery store on site, only a small market with some packaged essentials. so this makes it difficult to utilize the kitchen.
the resort is the only on Scrub. there are a few private homes, and villas owned by the resort that are also under construction. several were badly damaged from the hurricanes. the pools are nice, but crowded, not enough chairs. towels must be picked up at reception desk which is strange, and they had no clean towels one day ad told us to come back in a few hours. not a 5 star resort response.
there is 1 kitchen they use for the 2 restaurants. the lower pool bar has been destroyed, will need rebuilding. the food is ok, same menu pretty much daily. you will need to venture off the island to experience other places to dine. Pussers, 5 min ferry is very good, we ate there more often, very friendly, good chef, fabulous daily specials. see my review of Pussers.
the staff is ok, but its probably more their island style, no one moves quickly, some are more friendly than others.
Scrub is more a high end Marina than resort..boats dock daily and with their fee they can utilize the amenities for the day, this includes the pools, restaurants, beaches.
the beach in front of the resort is very small. the north beach is their hidden gem yet they say its not really open because the beach is littered with seaweed/shells etc..its beautiful, even has a pool and bar area that they have closed..they should consider opening this quickly as its the prettiest part of their resort.
Id like to revist this place after all remodeling is complete to see if its really a 5 star boutique resort.

Dear Tennislefty,

Many thanks for sharing your detailed feedback with us. Indeed we are currently working through our reconstruction schedule following the storms which hit the BVI’s last September.
We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back after our grand reopening this October to show you the improvements we have made to our facilities; including our significantly expanded North Beach which will be manicured, complete with swimming pool and ready for guest arrival from October 1st.

Kind regards,

Scott McArdle

Stayed at Scrub Island Resort recently at the end of our week long boat charter and absolutely fell in love with the place. We rented our boat charter through Marine Max Vacations. Since MMV has an office at Scrub Island, they gave us the option of returning our boat to Scrub instead of Nanny Cay. After a week on the boat with six people, it was really nice to end our vacation here for a couple days and unwind and get some space.
The resort grounds, while still recovering from last years storms, is still beautiful and relaxing. It has a little bit of everything; a small beach with pretty good snorkling, a two level pool and hot tub, a marina, a deli, and a great restaurant. The (suite) rooms were spacious with great kitchens (wolfe stove, sub-zero fridge), and nice large balcony overlooking the marina. All staff were very nice and extremely helpful. My wife and I cannot wait to come back, skip the boat, and just spend a week here.

Room tip: Lower level rooms make it easier moving luggage and other stuff from boats to rooms and back.

Having rang the resort to book lunch, was told there would be a 10.45 ferry from Trellis Bay to the resort, also no coordination with theVG ferry service. The boat never turned up so waited two hours. Rang the resort and spoke to the manager to be told they have no fuel in the ferry!!! So wasted a whole morning!!!! Do yourselves a favor and go to Oil Nut Bay instead,
