This is a secret gem. Without doubt this would be the best place on Koh Chang that I could see (note, this is on the Andaman Coast, not the better-known, bigger Koh Chang in the Gulf of Thailand). It is on the best part of the main beach, with flat, soft sand and easy access into the water. It offers picturesque views and the owners have worked hard to create a good setting, by establishing a nice garden interspersed with attractive home-made furniture which invites you to just sit around and relax. The bungalows are very basic (no glass in the windows but they have shutters and mosquito nets, no hot water) but they have a rustic charm oozing with character that fits the setting and they have great verandahs complete with hammock to laze away reading a book besides the ocean.

The biggest surprise was that the local couple who own the place speak good english and are brilliant cooks. Nuiee worked as a chef in various restaurants in Melbourne while undertaking a mechanics course and his wife has done a hospitality course in the same city (which is where they met). Their menu and quality of food was the best I experienced in Thailand! They are very humble, modest quiet people, and very nice, honest, warm and genuine. They also employ a diligent Burmese family to help out, who are also very nice people.

The island itself is untouristy and has not much to do except eat, read and swim - perfect. We travelled from Ranong to here by schedulled ferry and then chartered a private boat (for only 1,500 THB) from a hotel a few minutes walk from Koh Chang Resort to take our family from here to Koh Phayam.

When we first arrived on Ko Chang we were not certain we had made a good decision. We stayed at a different place the first night and stumbled across Sawasdee when we went for a walk. We instantly fell in love with the place. The restaurant area is set among the trees over looking the beach. It has been lovingly decorated with wind chimes, plants and solid wood furniture. The way they decorated the place is very sympathetic to the surroundings.

We booked a 450baht bungalow on the beach. It was clean and spacious with a mosquito net over the bed. The room came with toilet paper and towels which is a bit of a luxury for a budget back packer. The decking was a generous size with a hammock and chair to relax in.

The food at the restaurant was reasonably price with a varied selection of Thai and western food.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The scenery was beautiful, the sea warm with hardly anyone else on the beach. The people who ran the resort were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place to stay if you are looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy your surroundings! We will definitely be going back!

We stayed here in Dec 2011 and loved it. It was my first time sleeping in a beach bungalow but they have huge mosquito nets that we tucked under the matteress. So slept with one eye open the 1st night. We only had lovely Gekos visit us in the night. The food is lovely. Salads are safe. Eat them all the time and no tummy ache. Loved the Sawsseee Salad. Very kid friendly play area and wood swing sea saw. Would come again.

This is one of those places that you find and arent sure if you want to share it with the rest of the world. But I believe it sharing my disoveries with fellow travelers and passing it forward since so many of my great places I stay are found on here as well, passed on by all of you . I have heard so little about this island..Little Ko Chang as its known. I spent the night in the small town of Ranong, before taking a morning ferry over to this quiet island. No cars, no motorbikes, and only a couple ferries a day. i did not have reservations when i showed up, and was lucky to get a room, this place is no secret, and travelers have been coming back here for years. The island is very basic, and so are the bungalows, no fan, no aircon, only electricity from 6-10, but the bungalows are super cute! seem new, even though they have been here for years, just very well maintained, and it shows. my bungalow was very cheap! LIke old style prices, it was my cheapest stay on my whole trip...because i was solo it was only 350 baht a night, the others were only 500 baht! They have a sunken bathroom attached, a great misquito net covered bed, and a beautiful wood deck complete with a hammock! the restaurant had the BEST food, everyone from the other places came here to eat. I ate every meal here! The lounge area is comfortable with raised deck and low table and cushions to lounge on. The staff is amazing and so friendly and helpful..I felt so welcome here. They do have a website, but they dont have working internet , so you have to call for a resevation...and do! This place is wonderful :)

Room Tip: I think they are all great!
