Old Church Farm is a beautiful old country house hotel - originally owned by the Rolls Royce Group and used for company functions/entertaining - now in private ownership and brought up-to-date with all mod cons. It is set in beautiful grounds with a croquet lawn, rose garden and its own abandoned old church tower! It has 7 lovely bedrooms all with wonderfully comfortable Hynos beds and bathrooms/shower rooms with amazing water pressure and tons of hot water - bliss.
Christopher, the owner, is a very welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble. (He even went beyond the call of duty to sort through the rubbish bins after our stay to retrieve something important I had managed to throw out and leave behind by mistake). His wife, Kate, is the chef (cordon bleu trained and previously ran her own restaurant on the South Coast) and produced absolutely delicious, generous breakfasts every day with high quality ingredients (eg. really good local sausages and bacon, freshly-squeezed orange juice etc), good vegetarian options, eggs, omelettes etc.
Dinners are by request and again featured locally-sourced produce; in fact the couple grow many of the vegetables and fruit themselves in their own huge vegetable garden in the grounds.
My extended family and I took all the rooms in the hotel for 4 nights to attend a local festival together and had such a lovely time that, like another reviewer, i am now plotting my next reason to come back! I think it is the perfect place to hold a special celebratory weekend with family or friends, perhaps for an important birthday. If you take over the whole place, you have privacy and can stay in perfect comfort in such beautiful surroundings with all the amazing cooking done for you and served round the big table in the main dining room, and there is fun to be had as a group in the fabulous Skittles Alley in the adjacent converted barn, where there is also table tennis. in summer, you could have a croquet tournament as well.
The hotel is really well-located near the M4 and M5 motorways so would also be very convenient for a relaxing B&B stay en route to Bristol, Bath or Cardiff, and there are several National Trust properties and good golf courses not far away so we hope to go back to visit some of those too in the not too distant future. Thank you so much Christopher and Kate for such a wonderful stay in your charming property.
