My wife and I stayed in one of the studios for two nights. We had a very friendly welcome.
The studio apartments are situated right at the water's edge, and within easy walking distance from any place in town, which made it perfect for us.
The kitchen was equipped with everything we could need. Everything in the studio was of good quality, and seemed to be only a few years old. Our bed was very comfortable, and provided for excellent rests (but see more later...)
The view from our bedroom window was good, looking over the ever-changing waters of the estuary (albeit somewhat blocked by a palm tree).
The problem was ... Raglan
This was our first visit to Raglan. So, when the town siren went off with a massive noise at 2:30 am we didn't know what to do. Was there a tsunami? What was wrong? We didn't know, and there was no information piece in the room to shed some light on this... Se we checked outside to see if all people were gathering in the streets. Nothing! It seemed like we were the only people who heard the siren! So we went back to bed ... but were too awake (and worried) to go right back to sleep.
The following morning we asked about the siren and were told that it is the emergency service calling the volunteers when something had happened! What a silly arrangement - to wake the whole town in order to get the volunteers in! Don't they have telephones?
We also found the information centre in Raglan not very friendly - we were treated like we were a bit of a nuisance.
We wanted to go on the harbour cruises, but unfortunately the websites didn't make it clear that the cruises are no longer happening because "winter is approaching!"
Obviously this has nothing to do with Bow Street apartments (or with any other accommodation in Raglan for that matter) but it marred an otherwise good stay.
We will probably go back (only once) to go on the harbour cruises. But other than that, Raglan doesn't really have anything that we would want to go back for. There are many other, more beautiful, places around New Zealand where you aren't blasted by a siren at 2 in the morning, and where the info centre people are helpful and friendly.
