“Fantastic New Resort”
Reviewed 24 June 2011

My wife and I with our two children aged 3 and 7 travelled to the Blue lagoon Village for a week from the 15th June. We have said it has to be the best holiday we have been on and hope all enjoy it as much as we did; we only wish we were there longer.
First impressions were WOW after a decline down a steep hill you get to see the great size of the hotel complex. Check in was easy as we had pre done the form online before we left and the front of house staff very friendly and welcoming. We arrived dead on 10pm (just as all the restaurants were closing) but one phone call from reception and we were whisked off by golf cart to the Italian Restaurant and provided with dinner. We then checked into our room and WOW again not only was the room first class but we had also been upgraded to a family room with twin beds for the children and a Queen Size bed (with memory foam mattress) in separate room for us.

General – Brand new and in first class order throughout, regular cleaning going on and constant monitoring of high usage areas. This is a Thomson Family Resort BUT due to the various swimming pools and the separate Adult area you really would not know all the activities were going on if you didn’t want to.

Rooms – Very modern loads of wardrobe space and hangers, free safe, bath robes and slippers, fruit and water in room on arrival, 32 inch TV in each room (USB I could not get to work). Bathrooms first class again with separate shower, bath and toilet cubicle, Hairdryer, shaver points and light up mirror and lots of toiletries provided. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard, Towels changed daily if required and sheets every other day. All patio doors have a separate insect screen on them so if you like the air you can still get it with out the bugs getting in! Both rooms also had separate Aircon units that will automatically cut out if the door is left open.

Food – Book early if you don’t want to miss out on the speciality restaurants.
Main dinning area loads of choice for breakfast and dinner but beware that it is split into 3 sections 2 ends doing slightly different show dishes and the centre section always providing Pizza and pasta dishes. If like in general life you go for 1 meal you would never get bored of choice but if when presented with many different dishes you have a bit of each then you would soon feel that it is always the same.
Italian is very nice and if you cannot get booked in (book able since the 20th June) then just visit at lunchtime as the pizzas are great.
First Date – did not get booked as its adults only but heard nice things.
Adventure BBQ was fully booked so missed out which was disappointing but my own fault for leaving it that extra day.
Chinese (Golden Sun) - We found the food good but the way it is served strange as unlike in the UK where you order several dishes and then share it out, you are presented with a dish each and then have to do some juggling with plates.
Did not visit the restaurants that you have to pay extra for so cannot comment.
Lunch – take your pick really we would alternate between the Italian and the pool side restaurant which served a scaled down version of the main restaurant but you could also get hotdogs and Crepes from the beach bar.
Snacks – all day long if wanted included Waffles, Crepes, biscuits, cakes, soft and hard ice creams.

Swimming Pools (all now nice and warm) – along with the small swim up room pools there are 3/4 larger pools, in the adult area you have the swim up bar this pool can be used by children but they must be accompanied by an adult. The main pool seemed to be quieter with the waterfalls and jets flowing into it and the beach on one side. The Activity pool was the busiest but never a problem finding beds at about 10.30 in the morning, from 11am there was music and games and really good fun for all. One of the great advantages of the activity pool was it was 1.10cm all round so our 7 year old was always safely above water. The baby pool was right next to the activity pool and only 40cm in depth with netting over the top to protect the little ones from the sun. Another great touch which was a first for me to see was special toilets just for little ones (under 5’s). There was also a good little room for parents with babies to use with cots and play things in. No need for towels as these are all provided and you just change them daily (just don’t lose your towel cards).

Beach – Nicely located with good sand, over 200 sun shades all with 2 beds under them so never a problem finding spare beds as well as them there are some great wooden stands (some used for on beach massage), Water sports available all day although not sure on the pricing but it did say there were happy hours at certain times. The first 3 foot of water is fine with sand into the water but after that it is very rocky, sand bag walk ways have been put down so you can safely walk into deeper water to swim without the rocks. The Sea is warming up nicely and crystal clear. Be warned the dark sand gets very hot so have your flip flops ready.

Adventureland – A nice 5 minute stroll along the wooden beach walkway or a 2 minute ride in a golf cart and you can enjoy the lazy river while the kids enjoy the pirate ship or slides, rules have been relaxed on the use of the large slides but the water at the bottom of the slides is quite deep so keep an eye on the kids. Water and towels are freely available so you don’t need to lug all your gear over there. The ropes course looks fun if you can stomach 9 metre heights also there is the multi national kids club, 2 tennis courts, basketball court, 3G five-a-side football pitch and kids play area with big sun shades over them.

Staff – All extremely polite and helpful, working round the clock in extreme conditions at times 38 degrees +, waiter service never stopped and you were never without a drink for long.

Kids Clubs – Thomson run clubs were very good, do not know the details on the crèche but Tots 3-5 year olds sessions every day 10-12, Team 6-8 years 1-3pm and Tribe 9-12 years 3-5pm, also running are drop in sessions for all age groups 10.30 – 12.30 and 1.30 – 3.30pm every day, evening sessions also run from 7.30pm for all ages. At the welcome meeting all kids when signed up get hats, t-shirts and water bottles. If you are British but not with Thomson’s then you can go to the clubs for 4 euros a session but for other nationalities it the kids club in adventureland they can attend. Within the kids club area there is also a soft play area for the under 3’s.

Entertainment - There are 15 members of the Thomson team on site at the Blue Lagoon Village and all extremely hard working and very entertaining, daily activities around the pool include Water games, quiz’s, aqua aerobics, and poolside/beach games. The evening entertainment starts from 8pm in the big open stage area and consists of Kids disco, awards presentation, bingo, game show and at 9.30pm a show. The shows were either done by the entertainments team (sometimes involving audience participation) or a more professional act of which we saw 3, a comedy magician, singer and Lord of the dance – all typical of holiday hotel entertainment. The evening ended around 10.30pm with the Holiday dances of ‘I want to be a super hero’ and ‘Barbra Streisand’.

Bars and Drinks – If the evening entertainment was not you cup of tea or you just preferred a quieter evening you could relax above the activity pool in the cocktail bar or in the relaxed bar by reception with the keyboard player and singer. The AI option is available until 12 midnight but the bars stay open until 1am at which time you can pay for drinks. There is plenty of choice for all drinks with cocktails galore (although the AI ones are partly pre-mixed). On tap beer is Zorbas and tasted great.

Other General bits – Weather is getting hotter by the day and the breeze is needed to make the day more comfortable, by 9pm however some may find it gets nippy on the shoulders if sitting outside. All restaurants (except the Adventure BBQ) require Men to wear long trousers and Men in shorts at dinner were being turned away to go and change. Mosquitoes were around but few and far between, in a whole week I saw about 5 and never saw or heard of anyone saying they had been bitten. The complex is very hilly so if to struggle to walk up slopes and steps it may not be for you but in saying that a golf buggy for a lift is never far away.

Overall a great hotel and complex of which was well run and everyone extremely helpful, Cannot comment on the Spa or fitness centre as we did not use it except for getting changed before leaving but all seemed modern and very smart. It is without doubt a 5 Star hotel but although not Michelin star food (of which I would never expect) it is extremely well done, regularly changed and very hot when it first comes out. I’m sure I could nit pick at a few bits and pieces but they to me are so minor it really isn’t worth a mention and at the end of the day a holiday is what you make it. We as a family had a fantastic time and will look to return next year which is something I never do!

Our first glimpse of the The Blue Lagoon Village can only be described as "amazing". We arrived late at night and as the coach drove down the approach road - which has been specifically built for the hotel -the view was spectacular, looking down on the hotel and it's pools all lit up against the night sky. We were extremely excited about this holiday having spent a long time selecting somewhere suitable from the brochures, with this hotel we had hit on near perfection.

We stayed in a family room which was huge. Great bathroom, with 2 showers - a cubicle and shower over the bath. The cubicle didn't have great pressure, but was great for the kids. The decoration of the rooms was lovely, airy and modern. Toiletries were provided, shampoo, conditioner, foam bath and a vanity set, there was also a decent hairdryer in the bathroom.
Play stations 2 could be borrowed from reception for the kids for a£50 deposit. There was separate air con in each bedroom.

3 main pools to choose from - one very lively - which we avoided and 2 quiet ones. Beautiful clean water - fabulous views.

Waiter service around the pools was great as the distance to the bar from the lower pool sunbathing area was a bit of a trek! Perhaps a bridge over the pool would be a solution??

The beach is super - acres of space and loads of sun beds. No issues whatsoever with reserving sun beds. Beach massage - highly recommended - heaven! The watersports whilst they may seem expensive are great - you get a long time for your money which we felt justified the price. As the sea is a little rocky in areas, the hotel has kindly made sand bagged entry areas to save your feet! A nice touch.

The food in the restaurants is excellent - lots of choice and beautifully presented. I did not have a chip for the entire holiday - not that I couldn't have had one if I had wanted!

Entertainment by thomsons is very much levelled at the 2-7 age range - not a lot for older kids or teens but my kids were happy just playing in the bar areas whilst we had a drink most evenings - they would meet up with kids of a similar age and do their own thing.

The Adventureland is superb - a real bonus as we didn't know about this when we booked. Child (and adult!) heaven if you love slides!

The service, care and attention was fantastic - only the lady in the gelataria could have perhaps had a slightly better attitude (altho I found her rather funny!) the waiters were amazing - working extremely hard to make your experience as relaxing and perfect as possible.

A special mention has to go to Denis, the Business development manager for the blue lagoon group. He has down his utmost to respond positively to concerns in the early days of the hotels opening - quickly rectifying any teething problems and responding personally and individually to customers via the Facebook site. He has taken on comments and suggestions and actioned many of them.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone - it's fantastic!

We had 10 days @ BLV in June with our 9 & 11 year old and enjoyed every minute. We chose this hotel because it was one of the few places that gave you two bedrooms within a separate family "room" as we didn't want to be on top of each other, plus when you pay full price for 4 I think it's a bit of a swiz to be sleeping 2 on a sofa bed. We weren't disappointed - the family room has 2 bright big modern rooms with the most comfortable beds I've every had in a hotel. The maid worked tirelessly & surprised us with towel swans & elephants. The furniture & bathroom fittings were all high spec & it was great having a shower and a separate shower.

The children went to the kids club & the 9 year old enjoyed it, but it was too young for the 11 year old. There was plenty to do & loads of staff at all the age groups.

The food was good, very varied, different every night in the main restaurant, the Italian was our favorite as it felt more intimate and the pizzas pastas & salads were lovely. The manager at the Italian was Greek & a good character, we enjoyed the atmosphere he created. The beach hut did toasties & hot dogs all day long and the bar staff were always wandering around trying to serve you.

The water park was a great extra & lots of fun on the slides, good with the golf buggies taking you up there too.

There were sun beds in abundance at most locations & there was a no saving with towels
policy which was very much welcomed.

The beach was nice but rocky in the sea, we took those cheap surf shoes & would recommend popping a pair in your case if you like a swim in the sea.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, but it was a remote location & anyone wanting to explore would struggle although they did start doing a few local buses the week we arrived & we enjoyed a trip to Kos Town.

Fantastic.

THE HOTEL: BLV Kefalos is a truly lovely hotel, a definite 5 Star for Thompsons and it should be in its Platinum range, Its in a remote location and you really need to hire a car if you want to get off the complex (but they do run a daily bus to Kefalos or Kos Town if you prefer). It's quite a large complex with three main pools and an indoor one at the fitness centre. There is a shortage of sunbeds at the kids activity pool and the beach pool which is a drawback, but if like us you prefer quiet, there was always plenty of room at the pool with the bar! The hotel has two main restaraunts open for breakfast and dinner, plus an Italian which opens for lunch and Dinnner and a grill which opens for lunch. On top of this there are a chinese, an adult only, a fish restaurant (you pay for this) and an adventure BBQ where you cook your own dinner. We always ate at the main restaurant The Aegean, and we were never disappointed. There is fantastic choice and because it is joined to the other main restaurant you can walk between the two picking the most varied dishes you like. There is always a large selection of salads, pastas, meat and fish dishes. Grilled, fried, baked, steamed its all there. For kids there is a mini buffet where they can pick their own food. Its a really nice touch. The wine was nice, the service of the waiting staff excellent and overall the dining was an excellent experience. Please make sure you tip the staff at the end of your holidays as they work very hard!
ROOMS: We had a family swim up room, 1103. It was in the block facing the spa and the Sea. It was fantastic and if you can get in this block 1000s you wont be disappointed. Its near the quiet bar pool, close enough to the restaurants but far enough from the entertainment. Room was big, we have a 3 year old and we had enough space with the sofa bed down the whole time. Bathroom was nice and the cleaner worked hard every day. Swim up rooms have a bigger terrace than other rooms with their own sun loungers. For the extra £270 for the fortnight we though this was great value for money. We spent a lot of time on our terrace while our 3 yr old bobbed about in the pool in front of us. Hardly anyone else ever used the pool. The actual pool is about 30 metres long and 4 metres wide and shared between 6 rooms. If like us you dont like pop music blasting all day and Wack-a-Dad type games I recommedn you either get a swim up room if you can or stay away from the activity pool and use the pool by the bar.
ENTERTAINMENT: Yes there is Thompson the DOG! and all that jazz. The kids love it and you can get into it as much as you want or avoid it totally (unless your room overlooks the auditorium - I would have hated that). They do all the usual activities all day then out on a show from 7.30 until 11 ish every night. Kids disco etc then some pretty ropey entertainers. We saw Lord of the Dance which had some questionable dancers in it and it was quite comical though it wasnt meant to be. We didnt bother after that and just went to the bar instead. The other entertainment took place in the main building bar. It was a strange trio of young girl and boy and elderly man belting out the same songs every night bewteen 10 - midnight. I never want to hear "killing me softly" again. It was too loud in my opinion. But I am a quiet loving person.
SPA: I had 2 treatments at the very nice sap. It is equal to Champneys and very well designed. The staff were great and if you need a massage or have back troubles ask for Nicole.
BONUSES: one bonus is adventure land. Its great for kids and a way to break up the day. The porters will drive you there too! Its only a few mins walk but nice to get a ride on the golf carts. Infact they will drive you anywhere if you see one and flag them down. Do tip them though. If its your birthday you will get champagne delivered to your room - you have to put your date of birth on your registration form. The amount of space and different things to do is another bonus.
NEGATIVES: The beach is a bit gritty and entry to the sea is tricky. Its quite rocky and not great for kids. Paradise beach is a couple of miles away . You could walk if fit and dont have kids or you have ot get a taxi but VERY expensive. The hotel will drive you nuts if you are someone who likes to mooch around and see towns, shops etc. In that case pre book your hire car before you go (its cheaper) but you can hire cars at the hotel for 45Euros a day. Kos itself is a bit disappointing. We had a car for a week and saw most of it and there is nothing that is really WOW. the beaches were a big disappointment. Menorca beaches top Kos for sure. Its quite windy in Kos so take a cardy for night times.
The worst negative is the airport. We had a 2 hour tarmac delay going out (everyone there had the same or similar) and we had a 24 hour delay coming home., To be fair to Thompson they sorted it really quickly and put us up in another 5Star hotel in another resort but it was a drag. Kos airport is too small to cope with the flights. Delays are a regular feature. Be prepared. Have snacks, games and toys for kids and get a portable DVD player and a good book.

Room Tip: Ask for block 1000 facing the spa

Me and my fiancé booked this holiday quite some time ago and were slightly anxious as the hotel wasn't built when we booked and we had read some not so good reviews before arriving. We needn't have been worried!
This hotel is wonderful, it is very modern and finished to a high standard and is immaculately clean.
The staff here are the friendliest that I have experienced and can't do enough for you and they always work with a smile. Here are the reasons I rate this hotel highly and would come back:
- There is cleaning happening all around you all of the day, from pool showers having the chrome shined to glass barriers being washed, there is a general feeling of spotlessness.
- The waiters and waitresses work tirelessly day and night to bring you drinks whether you are by one of the pools or on the beach or relaxing by the bars in the evening. No sooner had a drink been finished, another was being collected.
- The food was varied, hot and constantly replenished. We used the Italian restaurant mostly for lunch and the Aegean restaurant for breakfast and dinner. There are plenty of snack bars around the resort though, you would have difficulty being hungry here.
- The rooms were nicely decorated and the bed is the comfiest I have stayed in abroad. Felt like a memory foam mattress and I had a good nights sleep every night.
- The swim up rooms are nice if you want a bit of privacy, we booked one just for something different but to be honest, tended to use them at the end of the day and spent the rest of our days somewhere else in the resort.
- There are plenty of sun loungers by the pools and hundreds at the beach. Activity pool is the only place you need to be quick to get one.
- If at any time you look a bit lost or confused at dinner, a member of staff is quick to say "Everything ok ma'am?" I loved this!
- There are golf buggies whizzing around the resort at all times, as they pass the driver always asks if you need a lift.
- The manager of the Italian restaurant is very friendly and waves as you walk past even if you aren't going in to eat. The manager of the hotel takes the time to say hello and shake your hand as he is out and about.

The only bad thing I have to say is the adults only pool isn't adults only as children are allowed here as long as they are supervised. We mostly didnt mind this but expectations would be better met if truly was an adult only pool.
Location is slightly isolated but my other half and I don't care about this really.

Overall I absolutely loved this hotel and would definitely come back again, I have stayed at the other Blue Lagoon resort in Kardemena and this one by far tops it and is superior!

Just returned from a week at the Blue Lagoon Village with my partner and 10 year old daughter!! What a week it was :D I was terrified of going after reading all the negative reviews in the first few weeks of opening and was even thinking of cancelling! I AM SO GLAD i stuck to my gut instinct!! WOW is all i can say about the place. We got there at about midnight and were greeted at reception by friendly helpful staff and were taken to our swim up room by golf buggy. Our room was amazing it was huge, daughter had a massive sofa bed and flat screen tv! It was spotlessly clean as was the whole place! Staff were helpful and friendly (except one blonde girl in the galeteria who never smiled once) and everytime you passed they all said hello etc... Food was very good and varied you have numerous resturants the main aegean which is in two sections which does brekkie and dinner. The italian which does lunch and dinner and has really nice pizza and pasta! The chinese which was nice, the adventure bbq where you cook your own food which was lovely! Adults only first date resturant and a couplke of others i think that we didnt get too! Anyway there was always plenty to eat theres a galeteria down by the activity pool where you can get waffles pancakes and icecream! Theres about 5 pools its huge!! We were still finding little places we hadnt seen on our last day! Location wise is a bit isolated but hire a car and get about as theres lots to see and do! Old pyli is a must to watch the sunset and see the abanded village! The volcano trip to Nissiros is a must was a great experience to stand in the centre of an active volcano!! Lastly the kids team are brilliant yes the entertainments not superb but its all focused on the kids and our daughter loved it! A big up to Boogie Baz and Smiley Kylie who kept us entertained! And Sakis at the bar is worth a look ladies as hes a Zac Efron lookalike who we've all nicknamed Zakis Efronis lol! All in all a fantastic place, fantastic weather, fantastic people would def go back shame to all the people who cancelled after reading the reviews! Bloody glad we didnt :)

Room Tip: Hire a car theres lots to see and do
