Reviewed 15 October 2011

Together with my husband and our 2 sons (aged 4 and 2) we've spend a week in June in Blue Lagoon resort.
We had a family room (consisting of 2 bedrooms), which was very convinient, especially as we were travelling with kids. The room had a nice balcony overlooking the sea.
The food was really good and we didn't get bored with the dishes (as that's the case in most of the hotels).
The resort is really hudge, and that is great as you do not feel that there are lots of people (even if it is fully booked). There was a separate area for kids (with pools and kids club); however quite far and in order to get there it is always better to get the hotel buggy to drive you there.
The resort has an amazing SPA.
There is a car rental in the hotel, which is also very convinient.
The hotel is located a bit far form the nearest city, however it is wonderful if you want to spend your holidays away from noisy nightlife.

Surely - will be back !!!

The most uncomfortable SUNBEDS ever made, huge eight inch gap between back rest and main part of bed. Bars that dig into you covered with thin mesh impossible to lie on your stomach.lots of people complaining of bad backs!. Take a cushion and ear plugs for terrible butlins entertainment. Everything else is spot on for a relaxing worry free holiday.

Just returned from this brilliant resort - all new immaculate buildings. All top spec mod cons.
We stayed in 7620 and couldnt fault it - hot tub on the balcony, bathroom better than any hotel we have stayed in and excellent cleaning staff.
We had bad weather for 4 days so would not recommend Kos in early october, and thankfully we could put our 5 year old in Kids club otherwise there would be nothing else for us to do.
Food lovely, waiters helpful, personal touch by bar staff who knew our drinks after meeting just the once. Only negatives of this holidays would be the bad weather and after the kids entertainment in the evening there was not much going on. Would recommend the upstairs cocktail bar near the italian restaurant. Perfect setting for couples as stunning views and complex however would probably be bored with the night life. We are going back next year , to either this or another Blue Lagoon village.

Room Tip: Block 7000 was the quickest to get to, however the back overlooked the stage and was noisy until abo...

As the BLV only opened in May 2011 and is advertised as 5 star, we expected (and were not disappointed) quality accommodation. Our room came complete with a jacuzzi on the balcony and was immaculate as was the rest of the hotel. The memory foam mattresses on the beds made for the perfect night sleep.

The staff were all extremely friendly and provided excellent service. The food was varied and plentiful, the only negative here was that breakfast food was usually luke warm. There are numerous places to eat and the 'first date restaurant' is a must, couples only and the food and service is amazing.

We checked in on line but still had to repeat the process on arrival although the process was quick and we were whisked to our room by golf buggy driven by a very charming and cheerful young man (even at 4am!!)

The complex is very large, with a large number of steps and slopes.Although they offer a 'buggy service' this is not always reliable at busy times, therefore those with wheelchairs or pushchairs may find it hard going at times. It's very secluded although to be honest it's the type of place that you book and then don't leave for the duration of your holiday.

Although it is currently rated as 5 star I would suggest that a few things need to be addressed before they can fully claim this. The mini fridge in the rooms had two bottles of water in it when we arrived (at 4am) they are never re-stocked. Given that there are tea/coffee making facilities in each room, I would have thought that the necessary items to make the drinks would be provided. If we forgot to take water, coffee, sugar milk etc up with us, we went without our morning cuppa. Instructions for using the jacuzzi would be helpful, we were lucky that the maintenance man arrived on our first morning and showed us what to do.

Given the size of the place those with mobility problems or pushchairs, need to be made aware of the number of steps and steep slopes.

The hotel wasn't full and meal times were relatively stress free, but I'd guess in peak season it could turn into a bit of a free for all looking for a table, to give that extra bit of quality service, maybe some type of 'Head Waiter' service should be introduced.

All in all, given the great deal we got a very enjoyable hoiday.

Although this is a family facility it also provides very good accomodation for adults only or parents with small children when staying during out of school times.
It is quite isolated approx. 1 mile from the main road but the overall location makes up for this by being on a good sandy safe beach site. The facilities for children of all ages appear to be excellent .There are a number of large pools which give terrific swimming
opportunities.Numerous bars and places to eat can be found in the complex and are manned by friendly , helpfull staff . The 'village' layout is superb ,spacious, well planned with attractive gardens. If you are looking for good entertainment in the main concert area you will be disappointed as it can be quite basic but there are other bars where low key entertainment can be found. The food served in all restaurants including the buffet was excellent apart from the Chinese restaurant which was poor.

Don't listen to bad reviews! I went with my boyfriend mid september and we both loved it. We stayed in block 7000 which was very central to everything. It is immaculately clean, the staff work so hard to maintain it during the day.

People who have reviewed complaining about walking around the hotel must be very lazy. The hotel is big but it is easily walked around in 5 - 10 minutes. If you are not very mobile - you can call reception at any time and a buggy will collect you to take you wherever you need, so I dont know what people are complaining about.

The hotel is huge, but it needs to be because you cant walk to nearby resorts easily. The hotel is tucked away at the bottom of a steep hill and you can only get a taxi out which are expensive. There is a bus which runs from the hotel to Kos Town but only twice a week - Tues and Thursdays I think. People say you can attempt to walk to Kefalos on the main road, but we decided against it as it would be very danergous.

Food
Absolutely delicious. Plenty of Variety. On an evening we ate at the:-
Buffet restaurant (good),
Italian (Very good),
Chinese (Exceptional, best restaurant there),
the First Date (couples only - very good)
the Adventure BBQ (Very good).
First date, Italian and Chinese are all order off menu resturants - so nice to have something different to the serve yourself buffet.
Adventure BBQ is a nice change - but watch out for other holiday makers - food hygeine was bad touching raw meat then using same tongs to get salad.

During day only the Italian and Steak House are open. you don't have to book during day. I personally found the Steak House totally pointless - it had very little choice.
They also serve Ice Cream and Crepes/ Waffles with nutella and other sauces during day which was lovely.
You have to book the evening restaurants early - we booked the day we got there for the whole week but others left it too late and missed out.

Rooms
Amazing - modern, clean, very spacious, huge bed. Bathroom was gorgeous. I was impressed the maid came every day and cleaned, gave fresh towels daily, changed bed and gave us new toiletries every day. The safe is free to use.

Staff
All amazing - from the bar staff, restaurant staff to the maids and buggy drivers, you couldnt fault them. We had certain favourites. They are so friendly and eager to please. I was impressed that nearly all staff were practically fluent in English. They work so hard.

Bars
Brilliant - loads of choice of all inclusive drinks. Champagne is included in the all inclusive and was very nice! Only issue would be that there needs to be more drinks menus around. They are very generous with alcohol! The glass is filled with alcohol and just a touch of coke or lemonade for mixers!

Beach, Hotel waterpark and climbing frame
Good - but out the way. I think most people dont use it cos it is out of view. You have to walk on the beach to get there. There is a huge climbing frame, great for kids but no one on it, as it is out the way next to water slides. the Beach was lovely and had watersports.

Tips
We walked to Paradish Beach, about 1 hour walk each way which was a waste of time - it wasnt a nice beach and there is nothing there but a burger van!

I personally thought the swim up rooms were a complete waste of money - there is a quiet pool right next to them which the swim up rooms look on to. The swim up rooms arent private - they are completely open and shared with about 6 or 7 other rooms, so I cant see the point?

We went to Kos waterpark, 27 euros with a thomson trip. Was good but a very small waterpark, not that many rides there.

The restaurants are strict about men wearing long trousers at evening meals.

Cons (but only small niggles as we had a nice time its hard to complain)
The adults only pool - children were there. There are loads of pools so one should be kept child free for couples staying there.
Also I think all family rooms should be together in a block and couples seperate. We were next to the noisiest family, the children cried constantly and they left their balcony door open so you could hear everything. If they build a phase 2 this would be good?
Also we felt our balcony wasnt very private, but other blocks seemed to be fine.

All in all, an AMAZING HOTEL!!!!

My husband, our son (15 months) and I stayed at the BLV for 1 week from 3-10th September and we loved it! Our flight was delayed going out so we arrived late but the hotel looked amazing all lit up. Check in was super quick (we had pre registered online) and a buggy took us off to our room - 7109 from memory!
It was about 10pm and the show was in full swing and it was LOUD - so loud i couldn't quite believe it. However, it never caused us a problem as we watched the shows until 9.30pm, then went for a walk until little one fell asleep and then came back and watched the end of the show from our balcony. The room location was actually excellent and we had been upgraded to a family room - bonus! Therefore, I didn't bother to complain the first night and am so pleased i didn't.
We thought we had booked a mothercare cot through our travel rep but we hadn't. We paid 18 euros and our useless travel cot was exchanged for a wooden one with a proper matress.
The beds are super comfy, rooms amazing, fittings excellent. Could not fault it at all.
The food was also great. We managed to book the BBQ (very windy, take a hairband!), Italian - lovely and First Date - amazing! Buffet was also ok but pleased we managed to book the others to break it up a bit. Staff were really lovely and made a fuss of all the children.
We used the Creche and it was excellent and good to get our son out of the sun from 1-3pm. They were so undersubscribed sometimes he had one on one care and loved the toys and someone else to play with. The soft play room is also an excellent addition and the baby room was good too. They think of everything. I'd be interested to see if it is as good in a few years time or whether they slowly start to close things like the creche - it can't make any money!
The entertainment team work very hard and I think did a good job. People who say it is like 'Butlins in the Sun' have clearly never been to Butlins. We can be slightly snobby, we've been to Butlins and would never return. Here, I'd come back every year. The entertainment by the activity pool was just right - not too in your face at all.
Shame the pools are so cold as our son hated them but loves swimming here at home.
We didn't do any trips as we have been to Kos before so spent a week at the hotel. That was fine, two weeks could have got a bit boring though and would have needed to get off site.
The waterpark bit is great and very under used. It's a 5 minute walk via the road and often a buggy picks you up anyway or 2 minutes by beach and ok with a pushchair thanks to the boarded path.
The steps everywhere do get a little bit annoying and the lifts aren't up to much but this woudn't spoil your enjoyment of the hotel unless you had steps to get to your room. Someone said it was meant to be an adult only hotel then changed late in the build process which makes it seem easier to understand.
We have talked about a holiday next year. We never go back twice but i am struggling to find somewhere to match this so you never know, we may break the habit of a lifetime! I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it's lovely. If you have booked to go, lucky you and enjoy!

Room Tip: Block 7000 is quite central
