“Lacking in areas and don't go if you have a special diet requirement”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

Unfortunately this hotel is playing the numbers game. It's also a case of one mans meat is another's poison.

We had asked for a quiet room. We were given a room in 6000 facing the activity pool on the highest level. It was great until we realised that activity pool meant Butlins type games from 11 everyday especially around 2 - 3 pm when we want to take a siesta. We also had noise from the rehearsal of the night show then the night shows until 11, although we tend to stay up late (if we have a siesta!!). Asked to move but soon realised that if we did it meant the kids had to share a sofa bed. The other offer was a room literally across from ours facing away from the activity pool but would still have had the noise! Its worth noting the hotel place a big premium on family rooms in 4000 block which is away from the noise of my fellow country people as they go about their strange activities of throwing bean bags and playing water polo in the heat of the day. I was also saddened to see a lot of children suffering sun burn around said pool -please mums and dads there is no need!!! Kids club is 1 - 3 so completely useless if you want to get the kids into a Mediterranean lifestyle and sleep in the afternoon to stay up late at night.

More specific we are a family who unfortunately have several food allergies. We alerted the hotel 2 weeks before. We sat down with guest relations on arrival, we even went to the trouble of translation in Greek in case they didn't quite understand. Result nothing except a trip around the first dinner and breakfast to show us what we could and couldn't have several of which we then pointed out actually it was not suitable. In most cases they didn't even know what was in the food, their excuse being we buy it in. Worse after my son fell ill we discovered that a theoretical safe food was actually not. My wife actually had to become guinea pig as she has the same allergies to try and find something to eat.

In honesty this is the worst place we have ever been in terms of assistance or understanding. In one case we went to the adventure BBQ for my sons 8th birthday. We had been the week before and they had been fairly helpful in getting plain meat. Second time round I went hoping for the same. I tried explaining to the waiter what we had on our first visit who then suggested I should go somewhere else as he was not prepared to offer us any help. This was after the hotel had kindly delivered a birthday cake to my son covered in strawberry sauce (one of his allergy foods!) was only on the 10th day did the hotel finally deliver a breakfast plate for my kid, who until then had been only eating fruit and a piece of bread for breakfast.

I can eat everything, for me Food quality in general is poor and way below standard that I would consider acceptable in any 4 or 5 star hotel; ingredients are cheap and flavour lacking. Bacon is processed ham slice with water and salt, FYI other hotels in blue lagoon on half board serve proper bacon or at least did in 2012. Puddings were a complete waste of time all show and no taste or difference. Also worth noting the later you go the more reduced the offering. They quickly run out of good stuff so if you want to eat late you are penalised. Also we often had to wait for a table outside and then cafeteria (it certainly was not a restaurant) was big so food was always cold by the time you got back to the table (after running the gauntlet of kids darting in your way and Guests deciding they don't queue like the rest of us.

Drink options were awful beer I have never tasted worse, hotel knows it because they like to show you the good stuff on every bar asking for 4 euro a small bottle. Wine was headache in a glass, spirits came from unknown and bottled / produced specifically for blue lagoon. The only branded we found was Pimms.

Final concern and it seems its a general was sun beds. As of first week July we quickly found that by 10am all sunbeds by the activity and beach pool were "reserved" by people. We talked to the lifeguards who like the hotel say its the guests but clearly many like us suddenly realised that we either had to plan our day around being by a pool for 9.30, be prepared to use the beach instead (ok but difficult with sea being hard to access for the kids) or as we finally did on day 9 simply "reserve" our own. I would however point out we took 2 unlike others who seemed to think that each one of their children need their own, many cases we saw sunbeds not being occupied for several hours. It is incredibly frustrating to feel that you have paid for a 5 star resort where you cannot truly relax into your own routine and freedom of choice is not an option. Its the hotels fault although their sign clearly shows 1. They are aware of the problem, 2. Know their is no solution, 3. Look to divert the true cause of the issue back at the guest who is simply trying to find their piece of hard earned rest. For me it sums up totally the theme and management philosophy of the place.

Soon as you walk in you are simply a room number and a statistic to keep a good rating. I spend a lot of time travelling for business around 50% I stay in all sorts of hotels across the world. So I'm not your typical once a year hotel guest. We as a family also like each other company and don't need others to entertain us. So if you simply want a Butlins english brash noisy with the ability to drink and eat rubbish for the duration with lots of queuing and want to get up to get your space by the pool and eat your dinner early then get booking!

Room Tip: 4000 has it all, 1000 out on a limb slightly and long way from beach.

Dear Milkysos,

Thank you for taking the time to write your impressions. We are sorry to hear that we didn’t manage to meet your expectations and accomplish a great holiday experience for you.
Our customers and their satisfaction are very important to us and we take all the suggestions and feedback seriously in order to provide well balanced holiday experiences for all of our customers.

Regarding the space and noise by the activity pool, kindly be advised, that we provide also two very large swimming pools (main pool and the leisure pool by 1000 building) that are completely quiet with plenty of space and sun beds.
As a family hotel, we have a wide activity and entertainment program during the daytime (11.00 till 15.00), which is also stated in our website as well as in Thomson’s brochures and sites.
Regarding the rooms, most of the standard rooms in our hotel are in the 6000 and 7000 blocks, which are centrally located. The 4000 block has only frontal sea view rooms, which is a different category from the rooms in 6000 and 7000 block.

Regarding the issues with food allergies, we are really sorry about the inconveniences.
We do offer every possible assistance for people who suffer from food allergies.
In the main restaurant we have a small section where some food can be found for guests with minor allergies. In addition we ask our guests to inform us of their allergies, in order for our chef to try to satisfy their needs. Unfortunately, because of language issues our waiter in the BBQ restaurant was not aware of your situation and didn’t know how to handle it. After the incidence our guest relation took action and the misunderstanding was cleared.

We hope to be able to welcoming you again in Blue Lagoon Village.

Second time at blue lagoon village had a brilliant holiday again, staff cannot do enough for you special thanks to George who worked at bar by Italian restaurant and maria and staff at pool bar. Entertainment was excellent the Thompson reps work really hard and make an effort to make you feel welcome especially Davey .b. and minty. Would also like to thank the entertainment team who put on great shows every night and would always make the effort to ensure you were enjoying your holiday. We cannot thank them enough as while we were on holiday it was one of the kids 7th birthday and they made it a birthday she will never forget they put balloons up at the beach party and were all there to greet her and sing happy birthday and really made a fuss of her thanks to Sharon ,Sophie ,Emma , mickey and rest of the gang for making it a great holiday with many happy memories that we are still talking about now. If you want a fabulous family holiday in a fantastic hotel with staff that will go out of there way to make sure you have a wonderful stay then book the blue lagoon village you will not be dissapointed .

Interesting hotel. It pretends to be luxury and in many things it really is, but not in all.

Food - the hotel is very good in this. All inclusive concept is very good, there are a real lot of dishes and they are very good and always fresh. All the restaurants of hotel are very good, both all inclusive and a la carte. The staff works hard, is good trained and very pleasent.

Staff - professional. They do their job just excelent to make you feel yourself comfortable.

Territory - is a really big. Hotel is located on terraces, so there are a lot of staircases, but also I should say that there are a lot of golf-carts, which can ride you to almost any place of the hotel. Hotel has different facilities - several pools, tennis corts, football field, waterpark etc. Tennis corts, football field, ropes park and waterpark are situated in place called Adventureland - it lies a bit away from the main territory, you can go there by the beach or you can be rode by golfcart.

So, in general the hotel is very-very good.

But, I should mention here some negative moments as for me (my personal experience...).

So, negatives: beach! If you like to swim in the sea be prepared to face an uncomfortable entrance to the sea. The beach itself is sandy, but starting from the line of water and further to the sea - there is a solid rock. It is mostly flat, but still has some dangerous curves and holes. Also it is very-very slippery. Even wearing special shoes I felt myself a bit uncomfortable. Hotel staff made a several entrances to the sea with sandbags, but it is not enough - first of all, they are very short, so you can enter the sea just 3-4 meters from the shore, where the waterlevel is just a bit higher than your knees, and there are sometimes many people entering the sea simultaneously so it results in crowds on the sandbags...

Second negative moment - lack of sunbeds near the pools. Be ready, that if you coming to the pool after 10 - you never find a vacant sunbed till the day end. And the most funny trick, that some people occupy the sunbed and go somewhere for a couple of hours, leaving on them their stuff. And it all is happening in spite of the leaflet on each sun umbrellas where hotel management asks people not to reserve sunbeds, but just use them when they are needed. But as for me it is happening just because of that fact, that the quantity of sunbeds near the pools is just not enough for such a big hotel....

Hotel is situated distantly from villages and from the roads. If you want to stay in hotel all the time - it is the best choice. If you want to go out sometimes - it is a problem. You should rent a car, or you can use the bus to reach the Kos town (bus goes from the hotel twice a week - tuesdays and fridays at 9.30 from hotel and at 14.30 from Kos. Keep in mind that bus is usually crowded.) There is no another transport in the hotel...

And just a personal impression - as for me the seawater in the hotel is colder than in other places, and the wind is a bit stronger than in Kardamena, for example. (but keep in mind that Kos itself is a very windy island)

Room Tip: all rooms are good as for me...

The hotel is beautiful indeed, nice accomodation, clean, friendly staff.

What I absolutely do not understand is the beach - sandy beach untill the sea and than the rock starts... No possibiltiy for little ones to enjoy the sea as the entrance is very slippery and they can easily harm themselves.

Food - all fishes I had very dry, not tasty. Beef was rather bad too. I cannot comment on deserts, as that is the worst part - one white cream for all and puding on thousands variations.
The worst food in the 5* hotel I have ever been in, I can imagine that 3* hotel would be acceptable with such a food, but not 5*.

Room Tip: 1302 is a junior suite close to main area/restaurant and rather quiet location.

Just returned from 7nights at the blue lagoon village and my self and my partner (29&31yrs) are sad to have left. The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly and the peacefulness of the whole village made it feel like we were the only ones there a lot of the time (children's pool is very noisy but understandable-there are plenty of other pools to hang out at)

We had a standard room which came with daily maid service, clean towels and standard flat screen tv and top quality furniture. We were located nearby the reception area and enjoyed the 5min walk to the pools/beach but always got offered a ride on the resort buggies by passing staff.

Pool areas do get busy but we found the relax pool by the beach was best for us as we had no children to entertain, we never had a problem getting a sun lounger even on the days we wandered down to the pool at lunchtime.

We tried the Chinese restaurant,Italian and the adventure BBQ, we found the food to be fantastic with so much choice (with the exception of the Italians which was always great to eat at during the day but lacked authenticity in the menu for the evening but still good)

Evening entertainment is a good mix, we were there for a friends wedding so we were a large group combined which probably helped and we spent out evening at the amphitheatre. There were other options for couples such as the shake and mix cocktail bar in the reception area and also the bar beside the Italian restaurant which I can't comment on as we only had one drink in these during our stay whilst waiting for the others.

All inclusive ends at 12 midnight and for us that wasn't a problem, the staff have no problem supplying you with enough to keep you going till the bar closes and on some occasions after they have gone home.

Overall an excellent holidays at the blue lagoon village, we always said there is no point visiting the same place twice when there is so much in the world to see but after such an amazing time the blue lagoon is there to visit again.

We (two adults and two kids age of 5 and 8) visited the Blue Lagoon Village in late June for 5 nights as a part of the promotion in the Blue Lagoon Resort (see my other review on the BLR).

We really enjoyed the Blue Lagoon Village and there was a considerable difference in all aspects of a vacation in comparison to the BLR. The Village is a true up-scale vacation resort where the guests are pampered by the excellent service and great food & drinks. The pros and cons in short:

+ the family room was very spacious and clean. The Village is new and that shows.
+ the number of guests was well adjusted to the complex resources, there were never queues in any service desk and plenty of room in the pool areas and at the beach.
+ the service was classy and very friendly.
+ the food was excellent and there was very large variety in breakfast, lunch and dinner services. The Toscana cannelloni was perfect!
+ the vine was drinkable (from the bottle not tanks) and the drinks were much better quality in comparison to the BLR.
+ the speciality-restaurants were very good, the golden sun Chinese had an excellent cook.
+ the gym was good with lots of different equipment and free weights.
+ the pools were nice and the near by water park (“Adventure Land” 200 meter from the main complex with regular e-cart service) had slides for kids, ropes course, football and tennis courts etc.
+ many small details that made us convinced of the high quality; the big size of the towels, drinks were served from glasses not plastic cups, the relaxing atmosphere in general.

- The Village is a bit isolated, one needs to get a taxi drive (that I heard was expensive) to visit the near-by town on Kefalos. Two weeks in the location could be a bit too much without a rental car to drive to town of Kos and elsewhere.
- The sound of entertainment must be loud in the rooms facing the outdoor theater. Our room in block 4000 was quiet.

Then I would like to separately mention a few persons who made our stay in the Village perfect. First, Mr. Giannios Vasilis, the manager of the Piazza Italian restaurant has made a fantastic job with his staff to create an excellent experience for the guests. The food was of outstanding quality! The service was superb and very polite + fast. In the Piazza restaurant, the waiter named Mike did excellent job in serving us and many other guests! Moreover, waiter Stefanos in the “shake&mix” bar deserves a raise due to his top-level customer service!, and Eduard who was working behind the ice-cream bar should be acknowledged too and rewarded by the Village management.

The Village is definitely a place to re-visit!

Room Tip: Our family room in block 4000 was quiet.

We selected Blue Lagoon Village for our honeymoon at september 2012. We came from Turkey via seaway. They took us from Kos Port and at the end of holiday they took away us again to the Port. We enjoyed each minute of holiday. First of all, staff were amazing. All workers were cheerful and helpful. Wde variety of foods were served and also they were delicious. The most enjoyable part of the hotel was pools. there were many kind of pools (relaxing pool, poolbar, activity pool etc.) although beach was sandy, entrance to the sea was a bit rocky. But after a few steps inside the sea there were sand also.
