We stayed here for 5 nights as a base to explore Barcelona and join a tour group. The hotel has some nice facilities (pool, restaurant, bar) and is reasonably modern. It a bit far from the city but is only a 15 minute walk to the Zona Universitaria metro stop on the L3 green line which can take you straight into the city and connects to the other metro lines. We used the metro nearly every day, buy the T10 10 trip ticket if using the metro a lot, €9.80 for 10 trips vs €2 for a single trip. The free wifi is ok when it works. Despite a strong signal in the room , It was not always possible to connect(or you may get randomly disconnected), it required a lengthy usename/password every 24 hours and blocks voip / vpn and some email prgrams unless you pay an extra €9 a day, a rip off in my opinion.

Abba Garden Hotel have some nice features like comfortable beds, a calm environment, and a nice pool.

Unfortunately there also are some problems:
The room is not very clean altough new towels and sheets are provided daily.
The bathroom ceiling leaked which was brought to the reception's attention three times, every time it was just fixed temporarily.
The so-called "family room" we stayed in was big enough, and the extra bed was comfortable, but it was not a room intended for more than 2 persons if one checks the amount of drinking glasses and hook for towels etcetera.
The wifi is free which is nice, but a new, long, password and username is required every 24-hours.
The reception staff is nice enough, the same does not applies to some of the bar/restaurant staff. There were a long wait to get to order, an even longer until our drinks arrived, not to mention the food. Then we got served severly undercooked fish and when the new attempt finally arrived the plates were put down with a "thump" by a grumpy waiter without a word.
There is a charge for pool towels.
A water boiler in the room would have been nice.
The location is far from the center of Barcelona and if you take the metro home it is a 15 minute walk up hill (not nice in the Spanish summer heat, an advice is to learn how the buses run).

Room Tip: Chose a room towards the pool area so the afternoon sun doesn't get the room to hot (at least in summer).

Stayed here for a week as part of a group participating in a tournament for hockey vets. Our first problem arose getting to the hotel from the airport. We were given alternatives in an email from the manager prior to travelling: taxi; Aerobus to town and then either bus or metro out to stops close to the hotel. We were approached in the Arrivals area by a guy offering a taxi - for a price of 50€ for 3 of us. Assuming this would be an average for the journey we opted for the Aerobus/metro option. Approx total of 7€ each for the two tickets. This seemed to go ok until we emerged from the terminal to find ourselves in the middle of a heavily used dual roadway and no sign of the hotel. we eventually got there, but some extra directions would have helped.

Once booked in the hotel offers reasonably sized rooms. It is located at the top of a short but steep slope. There are no shops or places to eat in the immediate vicinity and the main restaurant is only open at weekends. You can get food at the bar but only a limited menu. If you ask at Reception for guidance to the nearest eateries be prepared for this to be scant in detail. We only found out by chance that a No63 bus can be caught in to the centre of Barcelona from just below the hotel for 2€ one way. To catch the Metro you need to go down a second, longer, steep hill onto the Avenue Diagonal. Bit of a hike uphill on return! If using the Metro be careful to mind your wallets and bags - one of our group thwarted a wallet snatch by a gang from another commuter.

Because of its distance from town, you'd expect the hotel to provide ready printed instructions for guests. A simple task that would take out so much of the guesswork for getting to and from town and finding shops/places to eat.

Breakfast offers a very good range of hot and cold options but 16€ is a high price - I guess they know you can't easily eat elsewhere.

The outdoor pool is a fair size and the gym is ok. If you want to use the sauna or steam room you need to inform staff a good half hour in advance.

Dont expect a smile from staff. They are not surly or anything but perhaps have been told that smiling is deemed to be unprofessional.

If using taxis, be aware that they are cheaper if you walk to the front of the children's hospital across the road....and charges vary widely depending on number in party and amount of luggage!!

Overall the hotel is ok and located in a peaceful area. If management paid more attention to providing greater basic information it would help guests (especially first timers to Barcelona).

The Abba Garden is a reasonably nice place to stay in the Barcelona vicinity, but it’s out of the way and has a number of problems detailed below.

The positives include a large room with good lighting, a two-level parking garage, an in-room safe, and a comfortable bed. The bathroom offers several amenities including an extra phone, a shower cap, shoe polish sponge, toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb, a small facial tissue pack, and plenty of towels, but no washcloth or bathroom wastebasket. The hot water in the sink comes up quickly, and the shower is easy to use and includes a bath gel dispenser and a non-slip security strip. The hotel grounds are quite pleasant, featuring a small landscaped park area out back with swimming pool, tennis courts, children's playground, and facilities for an outdoor reception in the area just outside the hotel bar.

Apart from the hotel’s remote location far from downtown Barcelona, the negatives include modest drawer, shelf, and closet space. There is an old-fashioned small-screen CRT TV in the room that gets about 30 channels, but I couldn't find any in English. The elevators / lifts are quite small, holding perhaps four adults at best, or two with luggage. Most annoying is the free wi-fi, which is limited by a weak signal and minimal functionality -- and it's not really free if you want full e-mail capability including sending and receiving messages. My iPad e-mail app -- and several other iPad applications requiring a connection -- failed to connect at all using the free wi-fi. I was informed that satisfactory wi-fi access at the Abba Garden required purchase of a premium service at a price of €9 (around US$12) for 24 hours . This failure to provide fully free wi-fi including e-mail -- a service available from every other budget hotel I stayed at in Spain -- was highly disappointing and, along with the other negatives, reduces my rating for the Abba Garden to the 3-star category, indicating just average and too many problems.
