We had dinner on Christmas which was ok regarding the food but the desert was just disappointed. We went back on the 27 of December and we had a beautiful highlight:)! The food and sweet were excellent!

Poro is a lovely restaurant, nestling among the cross-country ski tracks up past the Yllaskaltio hotel. It's a little bit away from the village centre, but it's well worth seeking out.

Set back from the road and surrounded by snow-laden trees, it's a great place to walk to in the winter moonlight, but it has a big car park for when it's a bit cold for walking. It's a lovely setting, especially with all the Christmas decoration lights on.

Inside the building, the main part of the restaurant is quite large, and has all sorts of interesting decoration, making for a very pleasant environment.

The menu has a large range of typically Scandinavian food including reindeer, arctic char and elk, and more familiar options for the less adventurous traveler (though reindeer seems to be something that everyone likes).

A nice touch is the "tapas style" starters that provide the perfect opportunity to try a range of different Scandinavian style foods.

The staff are friendly and all speak great English, and the menus have English sections too

The food that we had was all perfectly prepared, and the Christmas "gloggi", a bit like mulled wine, washed it down perfectly.

The restaurant also has a gift shop shop which amazed us with the range of products and was ideal for a bit of after-dinner souvenir shopping before a refreshing walk back to our accommodation, all the way scouring the dark skies for the elusive Aurora Borealis.

Highly recommended.

Good place if you like to taste traditional food from nothern Finland. Good quality and nice service. However, if you had once or twice tasted this kind of food, Poro doesn't offer anything special

From the time we were seated it took about two hours to get our main course. We needed to repeatedly ask where our food is until we finally got a response from a waiter. Food quality is ok, but not worth the price and definitely not worth the very poor service we experienced. We got a marginal refund but not what usually is given in these kinds of situations.

Go somewhere else!
