We booked in August 2016 ready for Christmas 2017. Magic of Lapland company sent regular emails keeping us up to date until our trip. Excellent communication. Flight was great with British Airways. When we arrived everything was like a dream. We were given a personalised itinerary for our visit and everything was so well organised so we knew exactly where to be and when. All transfers to activities were included and it was full activities for a few hours, not just quick taster sessions. Guides were amazing and super friendly as are staff at the hotel. Food at the Yllashumina hotel was delicious! Even my fussy 7 y/o ate it. All meals were included, as well as snacks of sausages and biscuits while on excursions and hot berry juice (yum)! I would 100% recommend Magic of Lapland and hotel Yllashumina to anyone looking to visit Lapland. A dream come true. My children cried as they didn't want to come back home. We thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip, but now we would love to go back!

We have just returned from a fantastic trip away with magic of Lapland. The food was excellent; they were particularly mindful of individual needs. I am vegetarian and was asked each meal if there was enough for me and offered to make more if not. Children were also well catered for. The chef and barmaid were so friendly and welcoming, they even reserved a table for the family as they saw we were a large family group.

The cabins were clean and cosy.......bigger towels would have been a bonus though. The days out were well organised giving us a chance to have lots of new and exciting experiences and most importantly meet Father Christmas. We were also given time to play in the snow with sledges, skis and of course snowball fights with the elves. The visits felt exclusive as our group was quite small.

I highly recommend this for your magical 3 day Lapland visit to meet Father Christmas. Nothing we didn't enjoy.......others had been to Lapland before with another company and were really impressed with this trip in comparison......better food, accommodation and not so busy.

Thank you so much for an unforgettable family trip, we couldn't be happier :)

Stayed in superior room which was very comfortable with bedroom part and living room part with plenty of seats, dvd player and TV. Log burner in centre of room with firelighters, matches and wood for approx. 4 moderate fires. If you want more wood you can order from reception (€10). Small kitchen area with fridge, sink, coffee capsule machine and kettle. Plenty of storage space and lobby with drying cabinet. Veranda with seating outside room but too cold to use! Long windows in room which means, if the room faces north, you can monitor the night sky from the bed! (Room 49 faces north). Bathroom - 2 showers and basins but no bath. Free fast wifi in room.

Hotel offers various activities (not downhill skiing). Might be worth pre booking in busy times. Had private cross country skiing lesson with a very patient instructor! Lots of cross country routes to choose from starting at the hotel. It is possible to purchase a map {$10}. Snow shoe walking also on offer but we did not do with hotel.

Fantastic hotel and would love to stay there again.

I wanted to take my children to Lapland whilst they were still young and did lots of research before booking. I must say we definitely made the right choice.

This is a review of the hotel and the holiday company. I'll share with you what we were looking for in our trip and you can decide if this place is for you. We wanted log cabins, not a large hotel. We wanted an uncommercial setting; Akaslompolo is a small but beautiful village. On Xmas eve they turned off the street lights and lined the roads with candles!! We wanted to be in close proximity of the excursions and we wanted them to be included in the price and not taster sessions. This trip ticked all the boxes.

Firstly we booked with the "Magic of Lapland" and I cannot commend this company enough. Just visit their website and view their itinerary, it maybe more than you want to pay but if you intend to do this trip once it's worth every penny.

We had a charter flight with BA from Gatwick at 7am on 23 Dec for 4 nights. The check in staff were dressed up festive and gave chocolates to the children. The flight was just over 3 hours and we were provided with a hot cooked breakfast. Note; there is in fact a free bar on this flight but you have to press your call button to request an alcoholic drink otherwise it's just soft drinks (just advice of course!). Kittila airport is very small and efficient, we collected our luggage and were welcomed by Elves holding up signs of our accommodation. We boarded our coach and our transfer took approx 40 mins. The views on route are beautiful, -7 temperatures surrounded by white snowy forests. The Elf is very informative, taking sizes for snow boots which you are handed along with snow suits, gloves and hats when you arrive at the hotel; really convenient, no queuing or waiting in big warehouses...priceless for my son who struggles to wait. Any size exchanges are done at reception.

We stayed in a standard Log cabin which is ideal and practical for a family of 4. The cabins are closer to reception and the pub but the apartments are a little further away but not too far to walk comfortably in. There are sledges located around reception to haul luggage and to play with. There is an outdoor swing/slide play area. You can use the Sauna and hot tub although these have allocated time slots, see reception. There are drying cupboards located outside the cabin door in a shared like porch and these are excellent. Drying clothes within no time and you don't clog up the cabin with bulky snow suits.

The food is beautiful, even my fussy children ate plentiful. The breakfast caters for all nationalities and is very fresh. Lunch is served in the pub and is a set menu; burgers, spaghetti bolognese, chicken fillets and chips etc.. Alcoholic drinks are quite expensive, average £7 a pint of ale/cider. We ordered a bottle of wine Xmas day £60. You do get a free drink with your dinner xmas day which was a nice touch. The restaurant serves a huge selection of desserts in the pub after dinner and is located right next door to the restaurant. They seat you for the festive dinners and it's very organised. Santa made an appearance on Xmas eve during desserts and if you bring pressies for your children and hand them to the rep (ours was Alex who was lovely), they arrange to give them out.

Now for Magic of Lapland, their trips are by no means taster sessions they are proper excursions where magical memories will be made. All the activities are in close proximity to the hotel and you're not sat on a coach for too long. The husky farm, the snow mobile safari and the reindeer rides are all well organised but the best day of all is xmas eve where you get to meet the man himself. I won't give too much away but my children were in total awe. The setting is beautiful, candle lit forest, secluded, uncommercial, not at all rushed and totally magical. On all trips you are never outside for too long and there is always somewhere to warm up. Hot berry juice is provided along with gingerbread biscuits.

We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights whilst we were there. Camera at the ready for this, they are amazing.

You can book extra excursions when there is free time, the recommend trip is the ice hotel. Note; you can go by taxi privately instead of going by coach. This is a wonderful extra.

Xmas day we took the sledges and went down to the local supermarket for a nosey around. It took about 40 minutes (you can do it in less but we took our time) and we literally seen about 3 or 4 people, it was beautiful.

Useful info!!! We bought thermals as base layers (from Millets) 1 set each is plenty. Full zip fleeces, woolly jumpers, glove liners, spare gloves and little hotties hand warmers. We used our own snow boots to and from the airport but this is not essential, any warm boots will do. We had temperatures from -20 to -5 with regular snow fall.

I would love to visit this hotel again, my son cried on the coach on the way home "I want to live in Lapland". If you are thinking of booking, don't hesitate you will not be disappointed.

We stayed here over Christmas with our 2 children. Our trip was with Magic of Lapland. The tour company did a fantastic job and the hotel was excellent. We had a standard room with a loft which was warm and cosy and very clean. We appreciated the entrance hall with the drying cabinet so as not to bring any snow into our room. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. We had a number of great tours with the tour company including a fantastic husky ride, visit to Santa, reindeer ride, snow mobile and snow village day out. We added on a trip to the Ice Hotel. I am glad that we had most of our trips included as it would have been a real sting on our finances to pay for them in resort. We saw the Northern Lights on night 1 and spent an hour on the side of the lake photographing them. A wonderful holiday with fantastic memories. The only negative thing I would say about our trip is that British Airways are a poor excuse for an airline. We had an hours delay on the way back, then a 3 and a half hour flight during which we had no entertainment and half an egg sandwich for dinner. If BA want to be 3rd rate budget airline then they need to start adjusting their prices accordingly.

Room Tip: I am usually very fussy having worked in 5-Star hotels but was pleased with our standard room.
