As we had Briksdal on our way , we decided to take a look. Of course, it was not so impressive after Trollstigen and Geiranger fiord. But we enjoyed it. I suggest to hire a small troll- car take a trip up the mountain. Espesially if you are traveling with small kids. But if it is only adults- having a hiking tour also might be fun. If you decide to go by feet- take a bag with food and drinks. It is quite a bit (~3 km up) to walk. And don't forget to buy some troll souvenirs there :)

“Must see Briksdalbreen if in area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

We are staying Hjelli at the moment and spent the morning at Briksdalbreen. It took about an hour to travel by car to the site. Car parking costs 50 NOK. The walk to the glacier takes about 45 mins. There is path that takes you next to an amazing waterfall ( bring your waterproofs for this bit because you will get wet from the spray). You eventually arrive at the foot of the glacier next to a turquoise emulsion lake: stunning. For a less sanitised/less touristy experience we strongly recommend the nearby walk to the Brenndalsbreen glacier ( see our separate review).

“Must see visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

You can hire a trolly car (gator) to take you to the top of the trail and then walk back. The hill is certainly walkable, but it is up hill and a good 40 minute walk. Coming back down, it is a much easier walk with opportunity to take some great photos. The glacier has been losing ground over the last 100 years, but actually grew a little from 2013 to 2014.

“A wonderful, captivating unforgettable event!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

As a Norwegian I know how it feels to be in a good atmoshpere, either in the summer or winter. We are known as the "outdoor people", and that is correct. Many of us are enjoying being outside, at all seasons. It is a benefit, for keeping your health and bloodstream. The children start as small to climb, or at least they go out for he weekend together with their parents.

I will write some comments about "The Briksdal Glacier" and it,s surroundings.
It is a very lovely and unforgettable trip to go into the Briksdal Walley, and the directions is not difficult to find. You can travel there from all destinations in Norway. (The location is: Western part of the country, into the Nordfjord). Or look at: "Visit Norway, and Stryn". If you ask the in the Tourist information on your journey, they will always explain, or you can look it up at: Wikipedia.

The Briksdal Glacier has many hundred thousands visitor from all over the world. Most of them at summertime, but also many in the other seasons.

The cafeteria has all facilities, It is newly renovated (this year) and has a place for you to sit among all the other 500 seats. The restaurants (2 or 3) are open from morning until late evening. I can assure it is clean, And the food is excellent.

There are also a possibility to spend the night there. But it is clever to book before your arrival. The rooms are for rent one night or longer, and it is ncluding breakfast.

There are also beautiful souvenirshops, so if you like to shop, there are many oppurtunities. Also a very important note: The staff are from countries all over the world, so yuo will have all the help and understandng that you require. The staff are Espanish, German, English, Japaneese, Chinese, Russian speaking, so do not hesitate to ask for help int the restaurants, or in the shops in your own language.

There are good accomodations according to toilets, and self care.

Now, I will tell about what kind of travellers that are visiting. As mentioned above, it is individuals, groups coming by coach, either from the many Cruise Ships that are visiting Olden in Nordfjord. (It is only 45 minutes drive from Olden to the Briksdal Glacier) or other travel companies from inland and all other coutries bringing customers by coach. You can also be able to take a coach from the Cruise Dock, then continiue on the lake on a small boat, and from there , you can travel further along, all into to the Glacier area. The tourist info in Olden will help you to find out how to do this.

The most important about this trip, is how to be able to go up to the Glacier area, and to see the wonderful lake in front of the Glacier. If you are on good shape, it is fully recommended to walk by yourself, or you can use one of the nice Trolleys, which is runned and owned by: Oldedalen Skysslag ( the farmers in the walley) + The Briksdal Glacier restaurant . The farmers in the walley are reliable people, and most of them are driving the Trolleys, and have many years experience. So you are safe, and in good hands if you take a trip with them..

Briksdal Glacier has developed the parking place It is big enough to take many costumers. There is a parking coin machine: NOK 50,00. You can pay either by coins, or you can pay in the restaurants first floor Then you can park your car all day.

The manager and all the others in that place is trying to do the best for you, either by good service, or by renovating and extending the place. Most important is that is clean!

Another thing to mention is that Briksdal Advenure activity park is there too. It is possible to bring children along, and you can look it up on the Internet by going on their Web site.

Not to forget. The weather so far has been splendid. For two months we had temperature between 28- 34 Celcius, which is great!

Bon voyage!

“Fantastic Scenery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

Whilst the glacier has receded over the last 100 years, it is still a breath-taking site to visit. The glacier is a 30-40 minute steady walk (with significant gradients in places) from the entrance to reach the ice field. This gives the opportunity for fantastic photographs as you climb, particularly some impressive waterfalls. An alternative is to 'hitch a ride' to near the top in about 10 minutes in a 'troll car' - an open sided Jeep, carrying about 8 people. There is then a short walk to the glacier -700 metres and the cost of the Troll Car is 190 Kr per adult. The route to reach the glacier also passes some spectacular scenery.
