Lovely stay at this beautifully situated hotel. Our room was large and light with a great view down to the lake. All the staff at the hotel were very helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was one of the best we have had anywhere.

Now, let's get one thing straight. The place where this hotel is located is premium. It has a great private grass beach, nice sauna facilities, and a great restaurant. I found the staff also welcoming and willing to find solutions. There is, however, one big problem - and that's the room. On the plus side, it is big enough and well-appointed with separate toilet and bathroom. On the minus side:
- there is no air conditioning and the room becomes unbearably hot during the day
- there are no blinders of any kind, just thin curtains. The sun starts lighting the room profusely at 6 a.m., and it is not possible to sleep after that.
- there are no insect nets on the windows. This means that, should you leave the window ope for some cool air, you are inviting legions of insects (e.g. mosquitoes) inhabiting the lake.
- when we were there, both nights a local orchestra was playing extremely loud in some pub in the vicinity until 1 a.m.
- last but not least, the local church is only 30 meters away. Some local genius has programmed its clock to chime the bells every 15 minutes once, and in their full glory every hour. For example, at 6 a.m. we counted 10 (TEN!) chimes. But this does not matter too much because you have already been awaken by the sunlight and the insects.

In a few words, the hotel can make its rooms much better with a few simple additions, but they did not seem interested in this and they just shrugged their shoulders when we complained. A nice location -yes. A terrible lack of sleep - yes again. Value for money - no way!

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the lake. They are more expensive, of course.

The location is great, just next to the lake with private direct access while being in the centre of the village. It couldn't be better. The breakfast terrace with lake view is also very nice. The rooms in the new Villa are comfortable and modern, but...

... as too many newly refurbished rooms there's no effort made to make the rooms practical. The curtains are too short, especially the one on the window just above the bed, and we got woken up by the sun at 6 in the morning. The bathroom have a window wall and worst of all, there's a light with a motion sensor next to the room entrance. Forget about going to the toilet without waking up your partner.

Well, we did want to keep it like that and asked for a solution. At 21h30 there was no-one left in the reception and the phone was connected to the restaurant, but no-one could come to help us. We had to go to the restaurant (in the other building...) and were given plasters to cover the sensor. I uploaded the picture.

When we discovered the built-in hair drier wasn't working. The reception told us their spare was already given to another guest and they told they would send someone to bring another drier. But actually they sent two cleaning ladies who started to check if there wasn't an electric fault. They started inspecting everything in the room while my wife was waiting with cold wet hair. A typical case of the staff trying to solve their problem, rather than ours. In the end my wife was asked to go dry her hair in another room.

We are surprised by the too low availability of service for what is supposed to be a superior 4 star hotel.

Note also that the rooms facing North are close to the main square where there are regularly concerts in the evenings.

Room Tip: The rooms in the new building facing North are close to the main square where there are regularly co...

This place is fantastic. I was initially disappointed about not staying in St Wolfgang, but now having gone there it is better to stay in Strobl - not so full of day tourists, and then one can get the boat to St Wolfgang and the steam train. The town is peaceful, there is a great boardwalk. The hotel is very relaxing - we got a huge junior suite for a very good price considering what we have paid elsewhere in Austria. There was a full kitchen, large bedroom, lounge and good sized bathroom. It was all clean and very bright. The breakfast was great and the restaurant's food was great. There is also a great outside area to relax near the lake. I would highly recommend this hotel and staying here rather than St Wolfgang. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.
