Although hard to locate so be sure to have excellent directions beforehand, this "jewel of a Tuscany villa" is worth the search. The view of the beautifully manicured grounds from your bedroom window or off one of the deck area's gave me an instant feeling of peace and goodwill. I know many or all of the others from Calgary felt the same. Although we enjoyed many day trips away from the Villa it was always like returning home because of the hospitality displayed by the family. Rosa cooked the best Italian cuisine using herbs and oil that came from the gardens of the property. Nicholi and Sara seemed to cater to every wish and we will never forget any of them. I hope to return.

We spent a week at Villa Toppole and agree hands down that the accommodations, scenery and food were fabulous. We were treated like family by the owners and felt right at home from the get go. The villa was spacious and beautifully appointed. The grounds were nicely kept and lovely to gaze upon while enjoying a morning cappuccino. We would return in a heart beat!

Our tour of 13 spent the past 2 weeks at this villa where, indeed, the welcome was very friendly. We had 5 ample and good dinners prepared by Rosa and a great pizza experience where they were cooked in the wood oven. The house was comfortable and filled with carefully selected antiques. The appliances in the kitchen were a bit awkward, we had to learn to let the old water out of the dishwasher so it would clean the dishes and even then, we often handwashed; gas stove was tricky, and toaster oven took a long time to toast, but we managed. The bedrooms were not equal at all in size or exposure. Some faced the wall of the host's home, while ours looked out on the rolling hills with plenty of fresh air coming in the window. The beds were the worst problem. The single beds were smaller than a usual twins. Two kings had the couples rolling towards the middle. Beware that there is an Ikea sized "double" bed which is not big enough for 2, although our tour guide expected a couple to use this room. The upstairs bed in the 'suite' was in a stuffy space, no window, and the steps down to the lower floor and bathroom were treacherous at night. Throughout the house were a lot of ups and downs, such as steps down into bathrooms, and down in the middle of the bathroom in our room.
Location was a problem for us. Each day a bus came to take us somewhere, and our longest trip was 2 1/2 hours to Pisa. It was 10 minutes down the windy gravel road to another road which was 5 minutes to the main road. Very bumpy. Taxis were costly and they always got lost, as did our bus. There was also no where to walk to...except the dusty road . Being boar hunting season we were encouraged to stay put.
We were on Elaine's tour from White Rock, B.C. and if anyone wants information about our overall experiences, feel free to contact me before you sign up.

Room Tip: Smeraldo was our choice.

You can understand what inspired Italian Renaissance painters once you experience Villa Toppole. Positioned upon the unspoilt and pristine rolling and terraced hills of Tuscany, the landscape in June is blanketed in lavender and broom which paints the landscape in splashes of yellow and purple and intoxicates the air with its perfume. And then there is the luxury villa where every little detail has been carefully and sensitively considered by Nicola and his wife, Rosa. Comfort, luxury and authentic décor are the theme and nothing in the house disappoints! The pièce de résistance is the personal service provided by the family, particularly by Nicola and Rosa’s daughter, Sara. Their modus operandi is to meet their guests every need; at your request they serve four course meals or if you wish a delicious pasta and salad dinner, its always delivered with a most sincere and charming smile. And if you fancy a shot of delicious espresso, Nicola is your man.

If you fancy a trip to paradise, go there!

Four couples celebrating wedding anniversaries could not have found a more hospitable place. The villa was excellent (professional kitchen) with comfortable en suite bathrooms for each bedroom and many different sitting areas. The bedrooms were pretty much equal. With stunning views sitting outdoors was very pleasant. The real bonus was Nicola, Rosa and their daughter Sara. They have a home on the property and are unintrusive but fabulous hosts. Rosa prepared wonderful dinners that were served by Sara and Nicola. It is in a fairly rural area but several towns are easily visited in a day. This was a WONDERFUL experience.
