Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre

We felt very comfortable and welcome to this wonderful hotel. The only thing is that they had limited supplies in the rooms or available if you forget ( no shampoo, toothbrush). We were very pleased to have a wonderful view to wake up to in the morning and breakfast to start our day with.

Having grown up on the Manitoulin and returned many times we have stayed at every place in Little Current (including some of the B&Bs) over the last forty years. Being a small tourist town the choice was sadly lacking in quality and only included hotel / motels that have been around for many years.

This year on our return for "Haw Eater" weekend we were lucky enough to get a room overlooking the channel and docking area running along the front street.

The entrance and lobby is unique with First Nation theme, high tee pee style ceiling and large windows overlooking the north channel and La Cloche island. Service was excellent with friendly faces and quick response to any problems or questions. We did not eat in the restaurant.

With a warning that hot water pressure in the sink was low and although the room was not fancy it had plenty of cupboard space, a fridge, a desk and free WiFi which worked well. The beds were comfortable and the room very quiet.

The view was spectacular and we were able to see the cruise ship anchored in the harbor, a cost guard vessel near by, boats and the shoreline running by the main street and the
Sunday night fire works set off on the far side of the channel.

The Conference center is conveniently located just across the swing bridge, near grocery and beer stores and just a short walk to the docks and main street shopping area. Parking area is large and very well lighted. This year we found that many of the shops downtown were new and well stocked with quality goods.

There were a few things that the center could improve on. The room's window was very dirty and covered by spiders in the evening which feasted on bugs drawn by the side light. While we enjoyed watching them habitat the area and build their webs others might not appreciate this scene. The windows do not open so there is no chance of spiders getting in. There were no folding luggage stands and only the desk or floor to put open bags on. The outside pool was unique and under the main lobby area but the water was much too cold to swim in, even for a six year old. The area between the center and the wooded area overlooking the channel was not landscaped or available for guests to use, it is not pleasant to look at out the room window.

These are minor issues and we will return on our next visit looking forward to staying in this new and unique place.

Once again we were amazed at the influx of police services on ATV, car, bike and boats on this August 01 weekend which is the highlight of summer in Little Current. On many occasions we passed people in cars, sitting waiting for the fireworks, etc., being approached by the constabulary. Due to this it is probably one of the most safest places in Canada to be at that time of the year.

Room Tip: The channel view is spectacular at any time of year

This hotel is new and the decor is nice and rustic and very clean. The staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. The room was reasonably sized and well laid out. The bath amenities, however, were sadly lacking. Only one bar of soap for the sink and the shower. No place in the shower to put the soap--odd. A bottle of shampoo, but no conditioner. On the plus side, there was a nice view of the water from our room and the bed was comfortable. The onsite restaurant was ok, but a very standard menu.

A lovely hotel, very modern and clean. Rooms are on the small side considering there's a lot of space to work with on Manitoulin Island. Travelling with 2 sons (10 and 12) whose top request was to have somewhere to swim. That's why we payed top dollar on this hotel, because of the lovely pool. Well, THE POOL IS CLOSED. In the middle of July. And no one said anything at time of booking. And no compensation is being given. Really disappointed!!

The nature and the stunning designs of the facility are no doubtfully the most amazing enriching and comforting place to stay. The service at front desk however was very poor. I had to ask about breakfast ( typically this is told to guests upon check in) and then made to feel like I was actually being bothersome. There was no smile no greeting. This is the 2nd time I've stayed here and nothing changed and drove me to write this review

My husband and I were here for one night and very surprised by the stunning architecture and setting. The real treat though was the walking trail down to the waterfront, including placards describing such interesting sights as a birds nest style lighthouse guarding the harbor. The scenery along the walking trail was breath- taking. The bed was very luxurious with a remarkably soft down comforter. This is a top flight hotel in an unusual and unassuming place.

The Manitoulin Hotel was such a lucky find for us on the island. Every place we looked at, as we drove from the ferry to Little Current, was small and not very pleasant looking. The room at this hotel was outstandingly clean, quite comfortable, quiet, and all the amenities we used were good. We did not eat here, but the desk lady suggested a good, local place in town for dinner and she was correct; we had a delicious meal there. You might want to make an advance reservation in the summer season as there are groups who use this place because it is a conference center and there are several festivals and First Nation pow wows.
