Fabulous stay - wonderful hosts

We went for dinner bed and breakfast with our two boys. The food was fantastic and the bar is a great cosy space. Both rooms were great and our hosts couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly during our stay. Real thought has been put in to make the stay as pleasant as possible, especially for young children. Finally, the breakfast was perfect and we can't wait to visit again.

Sunday lunch for 5

Fantastic Sunday meal in a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Friendly and welcoming staff. My Dad enjoyed a chat at the bar with one of the locals reminiscing of when he visited his Aunt in the village. Will be back.

Excellent family meal for four

We didn't have the opportunity to stay here, but we did have a very good evening meal here on our children's Easter holiday break in the Borders. The menu included a children's menu (always a bonus with girls of 7 and 10) and a good choice main menu. The food was fresh and cooked to order and served in good time. The owner who served us was friendly and showed our children a little play area/colouring-in table whilst they were waiting for their food. Everyone enjoyed their food (in fact our children wanted to return the next day for lunch), my wife and I had good large portions so could only manage to share a desert. The interior was modern and clean, with wood burning fire. The only slightly negative was that the owner liked to chat with the customers so often it was difficult to catch his attention for drink refills etc, but we'd rather have a friendly owner than not. If you're travelling along the A697 just north of Coldstream, we would recommend you take a short diversion to The Plough Inn.

Great dog friendly spot for lunch

On enroute back home and wanted some lunch in the borders after visiting Linhope Spoout Waterfall (v nice too!) - wasn't overly impressed by our lunch the previous day and saw this suggestion on google. Glad we made the slight detour. The Inn is lovely and the heating was on which made us v happy. David and Sarah were perfect hosts and welcomed our dog with a biscuit and fuss. The menu is varied and if returning I would try the items which appeared a little different (fresh sea bass with a flavoured butter was one). However, we had pate and prawn cocktail for starters - both of which were good, followed by the vegetarian tart and Sunday roast options. The tart was tastey and only fault would be the boiled potatoes were plain and could have used lashings of butter and another hot veg rather than salad. The roast beef was ok if a little chewy but the selection of veg was good and tastey - portion sizes are good. Would say there's no need for the frozen corn/pea/carrots though when serving other lovely veg. I had a half pint of ale and a coffee and my son had two soft drinks and a coffee. Total bill was £37.50. Excellent to also be asked when paying if I wished cash back since the nearest ATM is in Coldstream and doesn't always work. All in all a good visit and if in the area I will definitely return.

Thanks Calumsmum for your lovely words. We are so glad you enjoyed your lunch and visit.
We love constructive feedback so we'll take on board your comment on the salad with the vegetarian tart and will offer a choice of vegetables or salad in future. Butter-wise with the baby boiled potatoes we serve butter separately as some people prefer them plain; apologies if you didn't receive butter.
It's always good to hear that people will come again.

A charming inn with great service

Spent two nights at the inn while visiting family in the village. Room was very clean, bed was super comfy (great pillows), and the bathroom was modern. As a plus it is attached to the pub! Two real ales and local whiskey available with a fantastic food menu.

I will be returning next time I visit Scotland.
