York is one of our favourite destinations for Xmas shopping and this hotel is ideally situated close to a Park & Ride. We have stayed here before but this is our first stay since Mecure took it over from Ramada.

Our two nght mid-week stay really was a mixed bag

If I had written this after day one, I would have rated it as Very Good as everything was exactly as it should be (with the exception of the room which was a bit shabby) and a good three course evening meal.

Breakfast on the last morning however, was very poor . Cold plate, cold sausage, cold bacon, cold mushrooms & cold scrambled eggs. Totally unacceptable.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review. Whilst disappointed to read of your breakfast experience, I was pleased to read that we met the majority of your needs. I have escalated your comments to the head chef and restaurant manager to investigate and would like to offer a sincere apology for letting you down in this area. I have no doubt this issue will be addressed and corrected and I do hope you give us another opportunity when next visiting York?

Kind Regards

Yes this hotel definately had the X Factor for us. Our rooms (we were allocated with a lounge, separate bedroom and full bathroom) were clean and well furnished and we even had two tvs. We dined in the hotel and can only say that the meal we had was superb. The charge for the meal was £22 for a 3 course meal which compared to other meals we have recently had, was I think excellent. Breakfast equally good. Full English, cereals, toast, fruit etc and the service on both occasions was fast, efficient and friendly. The hotel is in an excellent location for those wishing to visit York. The parking at the hotel is free of charge and the "Park and Ride" service to York is only a mile or so down the road and the cost for this is £2.20 per person return.
I would recommend this hotel and would return

Room Tip: Our room was numbered 421 and consisted of lounge, separate bedroom and bathroom with full suite...

We visited the hotel as a couple and mostly enjoyed our stay. The only two concerns were that the double bed in the room was in fact two singles pushed together - which is fair enough except it made it really rather uncomfortable and not ideal for a couple at all. The other was that on our second night (Friday 29th) there was an event going on downstairs and we could hear loud music playing late into the night from our room. We did go downstairs to ask when it would finish and were told a little tersely it was to stop at midnight. It may have been that our room was particularly effected by this as it was situated next to a fire exit from the function room and possibly it would not have bothered us if we had been informed the event was happening beforehand. Apart from that, the hotel was nice and clean and the receptionists were more than happy to help out, including finding us a vase for some flowers. The room was lovely, if a little lacking in the view and the hotel is within walking distance to the park and ride - giving very easy access to York.

We've just returned from a special weekend at the Fairfield Manor. This was our fourth stay here, but oh dear, how it's gone downhill. The staff were fab, as pleasant and helpful as always (particularly Chelsea on reception - a star!) but the rooms desperately need refurbishment. The room we were given on arrival was small, dingy with the wardrobe door falling off. The bed, made up of two singles fitted together would have been acceptable if only they had both been the same height! The mattresses were really uncomfortable and lumpy. The decor is shabby, no lovely toiletries or biscuits with the coffee making facilities. I know these are small things but they are standard for a four star hotel and add the finishing touches that make a stay special. Even the loo rolls are now the cheap type, more reminiscent of a bad B&B than 4 star hotel. Arrived back at hotel at 11.30pm on Fri night after evening out, looking forward to a nightcap as husband had driven. Bar was shut!
We were moved on the Sat to another room, which was the bridal suite! Ooh we thought, this will make up for disappointment of Fri night. Beautiful room (we even had a complimentary biscuit) but the bathroom really let it down. Very shabby, small and uninviting. No vanity bar or even a shelf to put your toiletries on. If I had paid for this suite on my wedding night I would have been very disappointed.
Breakfasts were good, staff lovely and hotel is spotlessly clean but, it is much in need of some money spending on it. Sadly more a three star now.

Dear guest,

Thank you for you review. I was extremely disappointed to read your comments regarding your stay and for this I apologies. We do try our utmost to meet all our guests needs and expectations but it is obvious we have let you down on this occasion. I was also disappointed to read your remarks of our bridal suite as we receive many compliments about this room. I was however glad that you found our service and friendliness of staff to be of a good standard.
I do hope you give us another opportunity when you next visit York.

Kind Regards
Kevin

Stayed for one night with family. The hotel is easy to find just off the by-pass and it's a straight drive into York (or you can catch the park and ride which is en route). There's plenty of parking (free) and check in was swift. The rooms were fine and larger than expected. Our only issue was that other than a gathering of Rotary Club members, the bar area was dead and the place had the aura of a ghost town. We had snacks and drinks but have to say prices were a bit steep - perhaps the reason for it being so quiet was due to patrons having walked to the nearby Hungry Horse? I'm not a fan of the Hungry Horse chain and so it was our decision to stay in the hotel! The public areas were spacious and had plenty of seating area. We had to dash in the morning and so cannot comment regarding breakfast.

If we'd stayed for more than one night there was a good B&B rate.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your lovely review. I was pleased to read that we met your needs and that you found your bedroom and the park and ride to exceeded your expectations. As York has many attractions etc, there are often occasions when our guest would be staying over to visit these attractions and therefor the bar area could seem rather empty.

We do hope you choose to stay with us again on your next visit to York.

Kind Regards
Kevin
