We stayed here for two nights and found our room very comfortable (if a bit of a trek to get to!) shower was pleasant and a good temperature. TV was a little temperamental at times! There was a lack of a information pack in our room and we ended up heading to the bar at 9.50pm for some food as we had no idea what room service was on offer. However we would definitely stay again as the location was perfect and enjoyed visiting the Roko Gym which works in partnership with the hotel.

We visit this Hotel 3 maybe 4 times a year and always find the staff excellent. They cannot do enough for us. Lauren, her Mum and all the staff in the resturant are so friendly, not chatting all the time.I would rather be spoken to than ignored !! You can't win if you did'nt speak you would be called ignorant !! Keep on doing what you are doing. Also Wayne on front cover did us proud. Thank you again for a lovely stay.See you again soon.

We stayed at this hotel for one night while visiting Great Britain. The hotel is located a little ways outside of York, so not very convenient unless you have a car. The room was very well appointed and a little larger than normal. Although the rooms are not air conditioned, which is common, a fan was provided. Our room was located just off the main lobby, but we did not hear any noise during the night.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time in providing us with a positive review regarding your recent stay. The hotel has a very convenient bus stop just outside the hotel, in addition to a very popular Park and Ride service located 800 yards from the hotel. We look forward to your return to York, and would like to thank you for your feedback.

Stayed here in January. Grounds are really lovely. Arrived after a 5 hour drive and wanted a shower butt found no hot water in the room. Phoned reception and told it was being sorted. Went down 20 mins later as still no hot water and informed it I was an old boiler which switches off and staff don't know that this has happened until being informed. This I can accept but at no point was an apology offered for inconvenience. Dined in restaurant but waited a long time to receive the meal and were seated very close to other customers although there were other tables vacant. The member of staff informed us that her daughter was her boss and would be working the following day as she herself had the day off. The staff were setting the other tables for breakfast quite noisily. At breakfast the following morning had to request and wait for some time for bowls. There seemed to be a shortage of staff although they seemed to be in the kitchen rather than in the breakfast room. On the following morning we were again seen to by the member of staff whose daughter is her boss and we were told to sit at the table by the door. My husband asked if we could be seated somewhere else as by doors is quite unpleasant but we were told that the other vacant tables were already set for lunch. A group of 4 men came in and were seated at another table but this staff member complained and moved them as she said "if everyone sat where they wanted I would be setting tables all day!" We then had to listen to this member of staff as she informed the couple on the next table about her dog. Apparently her dog is quite old but has recently come into season. Not only that but the season has caused other problems for the dog and her carpet is now quite messy! Fortunately her son (who also works at the hotel in the kitchen) has a passion for gadgets and has bought a carpet cleaner. As it was his day off he would be cleaning the carpets at home! All this was while we were trying to have a quiet breakfast before our journey home. Certainly not what I would expect in any hotel, let alone a 4 star!
Get the impression that staff do not really care about their work, just something they have to do. Customer care is not apparent.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. Our staff are extremely passionate about the amount of professional endeavour they dedicate to their individual forms of employment. In addition, we actively encourage our staff to be professionally personable and to develop a rapport with all our guests. By the significant amount of positive reviews we have received from the majority of our guests for their friendliness and dedication, we strive to improve on areas we have lacked in. We would however like to thank you for your feedback.

We came here for one night for my dad's 60th birthday. I emailed a few days before to see if there was anything they could do to the room or a cake but I just didn't get a reply. First things first, it was easy to find and the car park is extensive with many spaces. The park and ride is minutes away and the surrounding grounds are lovely. Check in was easy although we had 3 family rooms booked, only 2 were ready and it was 2:30. We were also very split up even tho we booked a few months ago. They did offer complimentary drinks to my brother until his room was ready, altho that's the least you could expect. The room was very spacious with a double and a single bed, linen was crisp and clean, bed was comfy but would recommend your own pillow as they are quite hard. Our view was ace, ground floor, lookin out onto the grounds with rabbits running past the window, my son was so happy about this. The room was quiet with the right amount of heat. Although our window didn't open at all. Couldn't get a shower the next morning as the water ran cold, but my mum said hers was too hot and couldn't make the temperate go down!! The cupboard door handles kept falling off in our hands and the doors slammed terribly loud. The bar area was lovely but it was so expensive but I suppose that's the done thing for hotels these days. There is a hungry horse pub a very short walk away in case you want to stay around the hotel and they do breakfast too. Also, an 8 seater minibus into York was £15.
The main reason I only gave it a 3* is because of the price you pay you expect a flawless hotel and this is not it. But because it is York and it is one of the cheaper hotels due to the location it's the price you have to pay. Don't get me wrong, it's great for a night away but just don't go with high expectations. The fact that it has parking which is free is a massive bonus for this city.
I would return if the price was right.
