Good old fashioned fun in either a rowing boat or a canoe.
The whole family joined in, the youngest being 11 and the oldest
83. The couple that run the pleasure boats are very genuine friendly people. We have been visiting this part of Yorkshire for
many years and always make sure we fit a ride in the boats in.

What a little gem, fun on the river, lovely food, friendly people. North Yorkshire at its best. A real birthday treat. Thank you.

Brilliant novelty with the family to row up the river and have boat races, especially in the sunshine, no where in the area like it! Perfect for families and friends wanting a fun day out.

We are regular visitors to Ruswarp pleasure boats and have whiled away many an hour floating down the river here. The owners are so friendly and cheerful and always have time for a chat. The prices are very reasonable and you can choose from a traditional old wooden rowing boat or one of their lovely new kayaks. Safety equipment is provided and everything is clean and well maintained. You can have a picnic on the grass beside the mooring or take your picnic on the boat with you - don't forget your Pimm's! The river itself is beautiful and you can go as far as Perry's garden centre if you are fast enough! You get a lovely view of the river here, and it's easy to spot the odd kingfisher or salmon leaping out of the water, as well as the passing steam trains. It truly is a lovely place to be!

A short drive out of Whitby, just beyond Ruswarp there are a number of attractions tucked away from the main tourist hants. We visited the boats and miniture railway as well as the tea-rooms and a bit of duck feeding thrown in. Generally, I don't like hiring river boats; they are usually stupidly expensive and after 5 or 10 minutes of the allotted time you've covered every inch of the allowed waterway. Ruswarp on the other hand doesn't charge the earth and there is plenty of river to explore. Not only that, but there are a number of other nearby attractions as well (try the miniature railway) and the North Yorks Moor Railway provided riverside steam locomotives to view while we boated. Friendly, fun and reasonably-priced.
