“Even better than before!”

I don't generally write two reviews for the same accommodation or restaurant but felt it was only fair to do so on this occasion. This was my second visit to L'Orangier and the first time during peak season.

We (2 adults, 2 teenagers) had another amazing holiday here. As before the house was as it says, very homely and well equipped. A new BBQ and solar shower had also been installed in the garden - both welcome additions and got good use. This time we were able to make best use of the shared pool, which was not very big, but large enough to cool off and only a 30 second walk from the front gate.

The weather was regularly in the mid-30's Celsius and so the air con in the upstairs bedroom and fans in the other bedrooms were well used. As there is a roof terrace, it gave the adults and teenagers enough space to avoid each other when necessary!

We made regular daily trips to the sandy beach (a 10-15 minute stroll), where there were a couple of bar-restaurants within a short distance of each other on the seafront. The beach was generally busy but never felt overcrowded. There were sun loungers available for about €10 per day, but I was happy to lie on the sand. Close by were various water sports including the banana boat, fly fish and jet skis, whilst the sea itself was shallow enough for children to play.

In the main town square and beyond (a 10 minute stroll) were a good selection of restaurants and bars. I'd highly recommend Le Buddha which was about 50m from the beach, serving great food and cocktails. Again it was busy but never overcrowded - there was a great buzz to the place. If you fancy a slightly more contemporary restaurant try out L'Amirada, which is a short 10 minute drive in Villeneuve les Beziers.

We were lucky enough to sample the Spanish feel to Portiragnes when the 'Feria' (festival) came to town. This included the traditional bull run in the old village, which was fascinating and thankfully didn't involve any bulls being harmed. Instead the bulls were corralled through the main street by horses ridden by Spanish-looking horsemen and women. The crowd were amply protected from harm behind 7 foot high barriers and free local white wine was on offer - always a bonus! There were bull shows at the Arena in Portiragnes Plage, although I didn't manage to catch one of them.

Amongst other activities we did were a visit to the Aqualand water park in Cap D'Agde, dinner on a floating restaurant in Le Grau D'Agde, go karting, a road trip to the ghost town at Celles and a trip to the magnificent town of Mèze. All of which were great fun.

Again I can't recommend L'Orangier highly enough for families or couples or friends to visit. There's always plenty to do and the area has a real community feel to it - often lacking in other villas I've stayed at. We fitted a lot into our 10 days but it was also very relaxed. I just can't wait to come back!

“Couldn't really fault it, excellent.”
Reviewed 21 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Stayed here a couple of years ago and decided to rent again for 3 weeks. Definitely a good decision. The property is well located, ten to fifteen minute walk to beaches and village centre although there is also good parking.
The hose is well equipped for every age group and wifi and satellite tv is a real bonus as are the dvds and books. Kitchen area is good, large fridge with good size freezer, dishwasher, microwave etc, Nice sitting area but the real joy is the conservatory with fully opening doors and a good size dining table. The little fridge is useful.
Bedrooms are good, only one with air con but there are fans. However the house stays cool with the shutters closed.
Good patio outside with furniture and a nice little area off one of the upstairs bedrooms that's pleasant in the evenings. There is a communal swimming pool but it was not open during our stay. The house also has it's own outside shower.
Plenty to do locally and lots to explore further afield. Could not recommend it more highly.
The owner is very good, quick to respond and very helpful.

“Had a great time”
Reviewed 28 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a great time in Portiragnes, the house was exactly as advertised: it's close to the beach (7m walk), with shops and restaurants a 5m walk away. Must say the people in the town were lovely too, really friendly. The house was very clean and functional, had everything we needed (pots, pans, barbecue, baby bed, wifi,...). Had 3 young children with us, the residence is very quiet so they all slept well and generally had a great time. Had a few problems connecting to the wifi and Rosie (the owner) was available straightaway to help us out - thanks Rosie!

“Fantastic holiday in an amazing location”

We (2 adults, 2 children) stayed at L'Orangier in late October 2014 half term and had an amazing time. We were lucky enough to be able to eat breakfast and lunch on the patio each day as the temperature was in the low-20 degrees Celsius.

The villa is a short walk from a lovely sandy beach and also next to the nature reserve. The setting is beautiful, with the Canal du Midi running nearby alongside the town.

The accommodation is very much home from home with all the the necessary comforts you need to enjoy your stay. The property is very clean and tidy; the furniture modern and comfortable.

L'Orangier is conveniently located and we went out on many day trips, including to Barcelona (about 3 hours), Beziers (I would recommend the nine locks at Fonseranes) and Lac du Salagou near Clermont - all of which were within easy reach.

I would recommend L'Orangier to anyone who is looking to have a great time, balancing a relaxing beach holiday with the more traditional French cultural experience.

“Comfortable, clean, accommodating, and convenient”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The house was as described, well equipped and ready for us.
We have rented many gites, apartments, and other accommodation in France and Spain, but this was our first encounter with a lockbox. The second lockbox would not open. We were fortunate (as North American residents) to have a phone that works in France, to phone the owner for help. The response was quite quick, and took care of the problem.
We had two strong suggestions for the owner 1. Place motion sensor lights to illuminate the lockboxes, and 2. Provide a second set of entry keys.
We did have a second set made at the local Auchon store, which meant that two of us could go one way and the other two go the other way, and come 'home' when we wanted.
We will personally be cautious of lockboxes in future. Wifi would be convenient.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and are so sorry you had trouble getting in - this is the first time we have encountered an issue with the lockbox and we don't anticipate the same problem in future! Many thanks for your other suggestions, duly noted.
