Coconut Tree II

Coconut Tree West Bay Beach Cabins looked like a good value and nice location from its website. I received prompt email correspondence from Liana when planning our trip. Melida was very nice and friendly with showing us our room, check-in/out and greeting us on the property when she saw us.

However, in person, this property and its room are in much need of repair and are VERY run down, in need of regular maintenance, repair, replacement and renovations. Unlike other properties in West Bay, we saw a real absence of staff looking to do more than rake the sand in the morning.

We arrived to the property which the sand is raked every morning free of debris and leaves. The front desk is a disorganized, messy space that is more often than not, devoid of staff. If you need something, you need to walk around the property and look for someone who looks like they might work there or come back a few hours later and keep checking the office. Very laid back vibe to say the least.

Our first room was #4 and when we walked in, it was too run down and in need of repairs and replacing furniture so we asked Melida if we could switch rooms and she was very friendly and nice and offered us Single Cabin #3.

Single Cabin #3 has a great view of the ocean (about 50 meters away) and has a coconut tree right outside the sliding glass door/window. There is a local artist who sets up his paintings on the beach (about 25 meters) in front of our room. He is very respectful and quiet so this didn't bother us. But FYI.

Single Cabin #3 has a shaded porch with a basic plastic table and two plastic chairs and a woven, soft comfortable hammock that fits two! Cabin #3 is at the end of the property line and there is a large, beautiful tree next door that offers the porch wonderful shade, breeze and nice air.

The room is VERY run down, simple bed (useful headboard with lot of shelves for storage), ac, lots of windows for natural sunlight but in need of a lot of replacing including the entire bathroom and the closet that had big. There is a large sliding glass door with screen that needs cleaning and is broken (there is towel shoved in the openings). The bathroom was un-useable. There is a lack of regular basic cleaning and maintenance. The whole bathroom needed to be ripped out and replaced as it was filled with months of mildew, mold, calcium deposit and general neglect. We showered in our bathing suits outside of our room using the garden hose. We used our own sheet set we brought as the sheets were so thin and ripping from over use and needed to be replaced. They were placed directly on the mattress as there was NO mattress cover that all hotels should use for basic hygiene.

We ending up staying 3 nights as we looked for other hotels in West Bay but they were all booked up until our 4th night when we moved to another hotel.

Room Tip: I wouldn't suggest staying here until they renovate all of their rooms to offer guests a clean...

First, the folks treat you like family. Vincent, Melida, Mark, Armando and Leidis all aim to please. We stayed a week for our honeymoon and didn't want to spend a fortune on the room. We made a great decision.

Just last week Vincent opened up his Beach Bar at Coconut Tree West Bay. Armando is a great bartender and Ledis is an AMAZING cook. She made us fabulous lobster, great kabobs and juicy burgers. You can't beat their prices! The 3 normal sized lobster tails with rice and beans was only $18!!!

We were glad we were a little further down the beach from where the cruise ship folks land on days they visit. Before our visit, we were worried we would be far from the restaurants or activities but everything in West Bay is within walking distance.

Amazing snorkeling was just right down the beach in front of the Grand Roatan and the reef was literally 50 feet from the shore.

The cabins had plenty of room, great views and only steps from the perfect beach. They could have been cleaner. However, anything we asked for was taken care of promptly. If you want a Hilton you won't find it on Roatan. If you want to spend most of your time on the beach or outside for a good price...this is perfect.

This hotel is amazing. The staff is superb. Hats off to Mark, Daniel, Melida, Vincent and Papa for making my stay perfect.
There were no insects around as someone stated or bed bugs.
The rate is very affordable for the accommodation (especially the rooms in front of the beach with their private balcony!) Best view in West Bay by far.
The prices are all reasonable and the staff goes out of their way should you need to do any tours and activities. Thanks Coconut Tree for an unforgettable time. Will be back for sure:)

After a long day of traveling and a wretched boat ride that made us all sick, due to extra bad waters, we arrived at Coconut Tree and didn't really know what to expect. We were blown away with the wonderful service and nice room that we got. The room was large, we had 3 beds, a refrigerator and microwave and were able to cook our own meals right in our little "house." The service was great! We were treated like royalty, they kept us supplied in bottled water, had the room cleaned every day and we always were able to have plenty of towels and washcloths. We kept dragging sand in and so they brought us a rug to help with that. We were also able to get cheaper taxi rates due to the workers helping us out and giving us the best deal. We went snorkeling for $20 per person and were out for 2 hours total, another good deal that the workers helped get lined up for us. There was a nice restaurant right there that was very good and reasonably priced. The beach was just steps away from our front door and was beautiful. Perfect for kids because it was shallow and calm enough for them to enjoy it all day. We had a great time here and I would love to go back!

Arguably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, absolutely terrible experience. As I write this at 2am as I can not sleep due to the roach and bed bug problem. I can not wait to leave, called the help number for clean sheets and they said they wouldn't be able to bring them until tomorrow and proceeded to hang up and ignore our calls. Stay here at your own risk, $120 a night is a rip off for this poor excuse of a cabin.

We started in the older Coconut Tree resort at half moon bay and moved up to the west end. It was a beautiful view and a fabulous beach. The room was clean and reasonably well maintained. Mr. Bush was a fabulous host and we loved our time in the resort. Plenty of nearby restaurants and an easy cheap water taxi to get you around quickly. Although not a 5 star result, the place was great for the price. Some notes to consider, bring your own blow dryer if you use one. Book the upstairs rooms, the balconies are worth it! Rooms have small cooking facilities and fridge - great for smaller meals. No elevators so plan to climb a flight of stairs. ENJOY!

Room Tip: If you can do stairs., take the upper balcony rooms!

We probably just had a bad experience, as in one of our bungalows the AC didn't work and no hot water. All of that is fine if we were paying for a place with no AC and no hot water. I will say the customer service was excellent as they went to work on the AC right away. Too noisy for us though as its right on the main street, and the restaurant played very loud music all night... which is great, until you go to bed... the bungalows didn't shut the noise out very well. Overall it was OK... and we did enjoy the food at the restaurant.
