Went to JavaVine twice during our stay at Island Pearl. We went once for a light lunch and the second time to escape the beach for a while during the "Boat People" invasion on a particular day. The light lunch consisted of a few tapas that were really good. We had pot stickers, spring rolls, and stuffed mushrooms, but there are a number of other choices as well. During the Boat People take-over, we dashed up the gravel road to JavaVine for some peace. This time we decided to try a pizza and that was also very good and better than the pizza we tried at Bananarama! The husband/wife owners took the time to answer general questions and chat with us a bit about owning a business/living/working on the island and told us the story on how they got to where they are today. They were both very friendly, laid back, easy to talk to and seem to be living the dream! During our lunch visits, we also ran into and had good conversations with Montreal Bob and Chas Watkins. Good times! JavaVine's menu runs the spectrum, just like the name implies, there is an almost an odd mixture and/or combination of items to choose from: Coffee, (plus tea, espresso, cappuccino, lattes, etc.), smoothies, beer, wine, mixed drinks, bakery items (the cinnamon rolls looked really good!), breakfast items, pizza, sandwiches, wraps, tapas...just about anything! JavaVine blends together many different food/drink choices but it absolutely works! I guess the owners vision is about giving credence to incoherence - that's cool with me! On the surface it doesn't sound like it would work, sort of like pairing dark chocolate with Parmesan cheese! It makes you think for as minute but just like JavaVine, you should try it, because once you do, you'll be hooked! (*Here's my pitch to the owners: consider offering a Grilled Chocolate and Parmesan Cheese sandwich. Why not?! People can eat a Turkey or Ham sandwich/wrap anytime. Just like the other hip aspects of your restaurant, why not give people one more positive quirky/fun thing to remember you by??) Overall, the whole experience at JavaVine was impressive! We can't wait to visit them again!
