“Delightful resort with great ambiance and exceptional service”
Reviewed 28 January 2010

Our recent stay at the Paradise Beach resort was without doubt one of the finest beach vacations we've ever had. We were greeted, upon our arrival, by the very efficient Cleo. The location for right off the beach snorkeling cannot be beat and there were always plenty of beach chairs available.
The food was adequate, if somewhat repetitive and usually overcooked but the accompanying service by staff (Raoul, Joshua, Cristian to name but a few) was fantastic. Raoul oversaw the restaurant and made sure everything ran smoothly.
Other dining choices are readily accessible and varied as we found out one evening when we took the short boat taxi ride into West End for dinner.
Ziggy, the barman, made every effort to create whatever drink we requested. Although the brands available in the "all inclusive" rate were somewhat limited, the drinks Ziggy and Angel produced were absolutely delicious.
This is a small resort with a very intimate feel to it. If you're looking for an active nightlife or lots of beach entertainment during the day, this may not be for you. However, if you're looking for a charming, quiet accommodation with excellent snorkeling right off the beach, this is definitely the place to go.
Only two negatives - which would apply to any resort on this beach -The 1st is the no-seeums (sand fleas) which are vicious. Some people are not affected by them, but the majority are and most of those are females. Using some kind of repellant is absolutely necessary and must be re-applied after swimming. A product called Cactus Juice, readily available everywhere, is a natural product which also has an SPF 20 and doesn't harm the reef.
It certainly worked for me and I'm an insect magnet.
The 2nd negative is the influx of cruise ship people who descend on the beach Tuesdays through Fridays, although they only arrive around 9:30 am and are usually gone by 3:30. When the ships are in, the beach is unrecognizable for the mass of humanity. Still, we found that our location at Paradise Beach was less affected by the crowds than say further up the beach at Henry Morgan's.
There is a pool but it is small, more like a plunge pool than a swimming pool. We still found it a lovely place to while away the hottest part of the day.
Anna, who manages the resort, was always around and available to sort out whatever required attention. Her calm demeanor and pleasant personality is probably the reason her team works so well together.
Given the opportunity, we will certainly be back

If you are looking for a more "low-key" place to stay in West Bay and don't care about the "fancy" stuff then this is the place. Sure our bathrooms could have used a refurbishment but the rest of the resort more than made up for it. Great staff, small resort feel, nice open air restaurant surrounded by a tropical oasis and great beach area that wasn't packed with "party" folks. (If you are looking for noise and lots of people, big pool etc, head down to Henry Morgan or Mayan Princess). We had the opportunity to go to Henry Morgan for dinner with the "dine-around" program and thought we'd give it a try. What we found was a cafeteria style, air conditioned room with about 400 people in it, the noise level was incredible...we left half way through our salads and went back to the Paradise Beach Club to eat in the lovely little open air restaurant. The buffet at Henry Morgan was basically the same as at Paradise Beach, just more of it (the food all comes from Henry Morgan). The snorkelling off shore is great, even better if you walk down the beach to the "wall". You can snorkel right out to some of the spots where the dive boats anchor. The diving is unreal..we used Anemona Dive Shop at the end of West Bay (by Fosters) and found them to be very professional and really super people. Say hi to Maria, Sarah, Rico and the crew! We also rented a 4 x 4 for a day and drove almost to the end of the island..Camp Bay, a great adventure to be sure.

The reason I have posted the title of the review "pleasant and as expected" was due to the fact that the reviews that I read here before going really did give us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

The hotel is small, but the intimate feeling it gives is a pleasant change from the typical all inclusive hotels. The meals in the small dining area were therefore much more quiet than eating at the Henry Morgan, which we did as part of the dine around program offered at this hotel in our package. We only ate away from the hotel twice as we found the food at the HM resorts similar from place to place and the small venue at Paradise was more pleasant. We were there over Christmas Eve and I have to give the staff credit where it is due as they put a decent effort into a nice Christmas eve meal and had the entire restaurant of tables set up around the pool area for an evening out feel. However I will have to say that the meals did become a little repetitive by weeks end and the breakfast could use a little more variety in the cereal department. If you like to eat a healthy cereal, this is not for you, hopefully someone there will read this and remember my suggestion of this as it may seem petty, but more and more people are health conscious and don't necessarily want a big breakfast everyday. The fresh fruit and vegetables served each day were great!! All in all the food would fall in to a category of average to slightly above average, but not superb.

The room descriptions were as to be expected, clean, kept up well enough, but not 5 star for sure, 3 star by any standard would be okay, we had two rooms and they were just basically rooms with beds, not up to even an average Holiday Inn but again the descriptions posted allowed for our expectation of this. The people keeping up on the rooms, grounds, etc, did do a good job, some work need to be done on some things, but they were keeping up well enough.

Staff that worked the front desk, dining area and grounds all worked hard enough, especially the folks in the dining area. 6 days a week and there from morning to night and always able to smile and take care of us, I respect these hard working individuals. HM resorts have good people there. In the beach bar, you can't get by without mentioning Ziggy, he is a bigger than life character and treated all members of my family well. We had some good clean fun around the beach area and Ziggy helped make some of it memorable. This beach bar area for us was a safe enough environment that I did not feel I could not leave my 13 year old son around there for fear of problems, so again the smaller intimate environment does foster a different kind of experience. I felt that this beach bar area was one of the nicest on this beach and had a sort of Gilligan Island feel to it that I thought kind of charming.

There was one individual who seemed out of place here, Eduardo, not sure of what he was supposed to do, but whatever he did for HM resorts he hid it well, if you need something done here, you talk to Anna, great lady with attention to detail and the highest marks for her help . Also had a situation that the Sunwing rep helped with from the HM Resort and also Dianna at Henry Morgan hotel helped tremendously. Anna and Dianna made quick work of some issues and I think HM Resorts should take note of these people

If you need an internet connection that works, HM resorts offered high speed for 50.00 USD for the week. Don't do it!!, at the time that we were there, it was not working well and very slow not a good high speed. If you stay at Paradise, if I wanted wireless I had to walk the beach carrying my laptop to Henry Morgan to log on and it did not work well. As short a walk away is a private coffee shop called Cool Beans, they offer internet at low cost and true high speed and I wish I had known this before leaving. Hope this helps someone.

If you like to work out, you have to walk to Henry Morgan to use their gym, you can use their pool as well as the pool at Paradise is very small.

Did some diving with TGI divers at the HM resort, it was okay, had some equipment issues, as we rent when away, leaking pressure gauge, depth gauge that did not work at all, explanation from the divemaster was "we have been closed for a few months, so we will be getting the bugs out". Good thing I am not easily stressed, but I think that they could do better than this. Otherwise diving here is nice and lots of good things to see, divemaster Lindey was great to dive with and took pains to make sure the dives were good and interesting. Lots of good snorkeling here as well and plenty of things to see this way and right off the beach from the hotel. My daughter swam with the dolphins at Anthony Key resort, a place often talked about in dive magazines, affordable and good experience for her. If you like to snorkel, check out 2 or 3 places for rental before renting and don't be afraid to purchase your own equipment before going, at least the mask and snorkel, you might be just as well off and you can use it anywhere.

If you like a quiet, relaxing vacation, with nice beach warm water, snorkeling, diving, etc. this is a good place to go, I think it is kind of like Mexico was years ago, not heavily traveled as yet, needs to work on some serious environmental issues regarding waste management, which will be a bigger issue as the cruise ships are starting to come in more numbers. The natural beauty of the reefs is a treasure they need to protect and makes this a worthwhile place to travel to for that fact alone. I would go here again for the diving, but otherwise there is not much more for me there.

Watch out for the no seeum bugs, take bug spray with you, use it while on the beach and in the evening if you are bare legged.

All in all I enjoyed the trip for the most part, we have traveled every year for years and always with our kids, now 16 and 14, this was an okay vacation for all of us.

Hotels are all expensive, but all on the beach. There is snorkling really close. The only places to eat are the hotel restaurants and the service is typical of C.A. It's a good place to just relax. There are other things to do on the island but not too much on West Beach.

My daughter and I visited the island for a week arriving Mar 13, 09. We stayed at the Paradise Beach Club and thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. Roatan is a beautiful island that must be seen and experienced. We had done some extensive research before leaving and in spite of some scary reviews (bugs, food etc) decided to check it out. We came with few expectations and were thrilled with what we found. The hotel upgraded us immediately on our arrival from a room to a villa. We are still not sure why. The accommodation is not comparable to a 4 star American hotel but it was clean and very comfortable ( with the exception of the beds which are very hard). The grounds were absolutely beautiful and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The bugs were not bad at all during our stay and only required wearing spray at night. The food was very tasty but did become somewhat repetitive by the end of the week. We ate out one evening at Las Rocas just a short walk down the beach. Our seafood meal there was delicious and the company of friends from our hotel made the evening perfect. The beach is beautiful and the snorkeling amazing. One needs only to walk straight off the beach to see a whole underwater world. The water is crystal clear and very warm. The only thing I could criticize is out of the control of the hotel. That is the massive influx of humanity that happens 11am-4pm on cruise ship days. Our quiet and relaxing beach would be invaded by hundreds of people as far as the eye could see in both directions. Luckily this only happened twice in our stay but there is another dock under construction outside Coxen Hole that will allow the number of ships visiting the island to double. At this point, we plan to return next year with the rest of the family and will definitely return to the Paradise Beach Resort

We were totally scammed. We made reservations to spend a weekend with our family last minute and for the $675 a night that we were prepared to have a wondeful time.
We showed up and it was a disaster. There was no running water and no television. The biggest problem was that management had their maintenance people tell their lie for them. He told us that water and satelite TV were down on the whole island. We went to the resorts next door and to our surprise they all had incredible water pressure and satelite TV and the rates were 70% cheaper with better amenites. When we complained to the management they said they would refund our credit card approximately $850. Another lie. 3 weeks later and they do not respond to our emails or calls. We have contacted our bank and have suggested that VISA stop servicing them. The parent company for this resort is Henry Morgan Resorts and it looks like they are the ones making these great management decisions.

If you are looking to vacation at Roatan it is a wonderful island and there are several great places to stay with 5 star accomodations on the water. Paradise Village preys on internet customers that do not have any knowledge of the typical amenities offered on this great resort destination.

STAY AWAY FROM PARADISE VILLAGE AND HENRY MORGAN RESORTS!!!

My wife and I were at the Paradise Beach Club from Jan 8 to the 22nd, 2009. Our main goals for this trip were: rest and quality snorkeling. We achieved both.

The Paradise Beach Club was a small 40 room hotel that was closed for several months. It now belongs to the Henry Morgan resort (which is a 3 minute walk down the beach) and re-opened on Dec. 4 2008.
We have read the last few reviews on the Paradise Beach Club and here are the things we agree and disagree with.

Agree: The beach is beautiful and you are right on it. The snorkeling is extraodinary. Some of the best we have done in the Caribbean and only a few steps away from the hotel.

Somewhat disagree: Yes, cruise boats often stop and on those days the beach is busier. Not necessarily a bad thin because on the days where there were no ships, the place was almost too quiet. When we were there, there were security gards who made sure that the beach chairs and palapas...etc. were used only by hotel guests and the few "squaters" who tried to settle in were politely sent away.

Agree: There is only one small dining room / buffet. The food is brought from the Henry Morgan. We were told that the main dishes were the same but the variety in terms of the side dishes was limited. The warmers were not quite adequate and the food was always lukewarm. However, everything was tasty, especially the fish. We went "all inclusive", so we used that buffet and the beach bar, but others ate out occasionally at various restaurants around the hotel. We did not understand however that we could not, as part of our deal, eat and drink at the Henry Morgan since every thing came from there. We and other guests did mention it to the staff and it is something that may change as they fine tune their operations.
The "all inclusive" at the bar, includes only the "local" drinks (one brand of wine, red or white, local beers and mixes with rhum or vodka).
You do have only one bottle of water per person that you have to refill yourself...no big deal.

Disagree about the staff not being friendly: the staff was extremely nice and went out of their way to accommodate us. Our first room did not have hot water. We were changed rooms quickly and without hastle. The dining room and bar staff, the maid...etc. were always attentive and smiling.

Agree: the rooms were very nice. Large enough. Clean. Large patio doors. Large tiled balcony. Brand new flat screen TV but....at the end of the 3rd week of January, they still did not have a feed for it. They were working on it...

All the activities, animation and night shows are at the Henry Morgan. As a guest of the Paradise Beach Club you have access to all of it.

All in all. We would return to theParadise Beach Club, hoping that access to the dining room and bars of the Henry Morgan would be loosened up.

  • Liked — Ready access to the beach and snorkeling
  • Disliked — Lack of flexibility with regard to the access to the Henry Morgan dining and bar facilities.
