“Absolutely wonderful! Great people!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

We went for my sister's wedding and had 12 people stay there. It was great! The owners and staff make you feel right at home! The food was wonderful at every meal. The staff was so helpful and friendly all the time. They coordinated the wedding and did a great job for a steal! Recommended to anyone, families, couples of any age. They make the best rum punches on the island!

Previous reviewers have captured the essence of WBL so well. This place is perfect for people who are laid back and enjoy the moment. You will notice that everyone has their favorite highlights. Ours include: hanging out with Maxie and Tommy every day, watching a rainstorm from the porch, eating all-you-can-eat lobster tails by candle light. We also had fun getting to know everyone. What a gift to feel so content. We already booked next year.

My husband and I spent 3 days in Roatan at the West Bay Lodge and it was one of the more memorable vacation stays we've had. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for - it's a relatively small property in the heart of Roatan's vacation hotspot, the West Bay Area. I believe the property is only about 10 or so cabin rooms, so it's a pretty intimate stay and in our short time there we were able to get to know Celeste and Milos, the property owners, as well as much of the staff.

I loved the layout of the property, built into a hillside with several small wooden cabins and quite a bit of tree cover and tropical plants, with a wonderful oasis-like pool in the center. It has the feel of a tropical garden and a more natural landscaping than some of the very manicured properties nearby.

One of the things I really appreciated was that the management does quite a bit to re-invest in the community, including supporting the local marine park, collecting formula for the local clinic, and helping spay/neuter and adopt out over 60 cats during the course of their tenure on the island. The property even has several island rabbits (agoutis) that reside nearby after being rehabilitated and released by Milos and Celeste and then remained to rear several litters of babies. One rescued agouti failed to adjust to life in the wild, so he lives in a cozy hutch on the property where he enjoys the occasional belly rub. They also have 3 or 4 emerald parrots that are given free range of the grounds and a couple of small turtle ponds. The many flowering plants and trees also attract quite a few butterflies and hummingbirds. If animals aren't your thing, you're unlikely to be bothered, but I had a fantastic time enjoying the jungle-y atmosphere that was what drew us to Roatan in the first place.

It lacks the resort amenities that the large beachfront properties have, such as 600 thread count sheets or all-you-eat buffets but at a fraction of the cost, it's a much better value. The hotel does a great job of arranging activities and events, and has an informal relationship with a local dive shop (Bananarama) which we took full advantage of. We also did a couples hot stone massage at the on-site spa which was wonderful (and again, a better value than the resort spas) and enjoyed the free breakfast at the hotel restaurant. They were also super flexible about check-in and check out, which is definitely not something the larger properties offer. When we find ourselves in Roatan again, we'll definitely return.

Nota bene, Another hidden gem is the restaurant next door (Lala's), which serves really stellar cuisine. It's not affiliated with WBL, but given the proximity we must have eaten there 3 or 4 times, and it's head and shoulders better than any of the beach bar restaurants serving shots and mediocre food.

My boyfriend and I went to Roatán for a relaxing vacation, and that's exactly what we got at the West Bay Lodge. It is a very lovely and quaint lodge in the perfect location, within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, activities and nightlife of West Bay, Roatán. The individual cabins have everything you need, including a full bathroom, satellite tv, a kitchen and laundry service, and are very clean and comfortable. We truly enjoyed just lounging around on the two hammocks on our porch. Your stay includes a free drink and tasty daily breakfast. The owners and staff members are very friendly and hospitable. If you have any issues, they fix them right away. And if there's anything you want, they'll get it for you. We immediately felt at home there. And I highly recommend their snorkeling excursion--what an excellent deal! This place is very reasonably priced, and we definitely plan on coming back.

We stayed a week here and really enjoyed it. The owners and staff were so wonderful, going above and beyond to help us with arranging taxis, getting medicine, etc. the cabin was very clean and comfortable. The free laundry service was so great with two teens in tow. Hot breakfasts were delicious and filling. The location was perfect, in shady oasis just a very short walk from busy but best beach/snorkeling on Roatan. Highly recommend for anyone traveling to Roatan!

My wife and I just returned from a two week stay at WBL. I am pleased to say that all the outstanding reviews are all true. It's tough to live up to such high expectations, but WBL passes with flying colors. What makes this hotle so special are its people. When you stay at WBL, you become part of the WBL family. Celeste and Milos have built a staff that are dedicated to providing a 5 Star level of service. We had very few issues or needs during our 14 day stay, but when we did they were addressed immediately. All the staff members are outstanding, but we found Melanie to be exceptional. Whenever we needed something, Melanie took care of it immediately. If your looking for an unpretentious, super-relaxing place to stay with 5 Star service this is the place.

Room Tip: We stayed in two different rooms during our stay and both were excellent. My wife said it was obvio...

Stayed 12 days at WBL mid July. It's a lovely property with charming cabins set in a lush jungle setting. Only 2 minutes walk to the beach. Breakfast was average, could use more protein. Staff is excellent, parrots are fun to watch and listen to them carry on. There are several cats, Mama Kitty would visit each night and curl up on the bed. There is a family of Watusa as well, fun to watch them carry mangoes for a snack.
Activities: snorkel of coarse. Beautiful, especially past the the channel. Walked to West End a couple of times. It's a great little town with many shops, bars, restaurants, and small hotels. Went to Sundowners and Titas Pink Sea Horse. Best ceviche I've ever had and Tita is a doll! Favorite bar we tried! Took a charter to Pigeon Key. Beautiful, Stunning, like a true deserted island. Saw lemon shark pups in the shallows learning to hunt. The coral on the outside reef there is pristine with many species of fish. Lobster lunch on the island was fantastic!
Don't miss the banana donuts, delicious or the guy selling home made empanadas!
Be aware of the sand flees, as they are determined to bite. I was covered on my back and shoulders so use bug spray.
Overall stay was great, vacation was wonderful however my only small complaint was, for such a small hotel, the small touches were somewhat missing. Like checking in, was stiff and not particularly welcoming nor was check out. The owner seemed somewhat aloof and stressed and really didn't make much effort to get to know us or ask about us, even when we attempted conversations,so we limited our request as it seemed to be a bother.
Would we return to Roatan, Yes. Would we return to WBL, no. There are other places that offer more services for less money, and just as quant.
Not knocking the hotel, just hoped for a more personalized experience.
