“Great Side Trip”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

Not a top spot but a great view. Take the public bus from Taormina
located just past the tram outside the Messina gate. RT less than 2 Euros. We had a rental car but the drive is steep and windy and parking is more than bus fare and a walk from the plaza.

“Spectacular Views”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

Spectacular views of Taormina, Girandini-Naxos, Mt Etna and surrounding hills and coastline! The town, a short bus connection from Taormina, is a nice day trip from Taormina or Naxos, a place to spend a few hours just walking about the town, poking into the many merchant venues, taking a coffee or ice cream, or staying on a while for lunch in one of several cafés and restaurants, while taking in the spectacular views below, and, of course, taking way too many photos of these. I've been here twice, and the only real disappointment is that the small castillo and related museum seems never to be open, always undergoing "renovation," like too many similar places in Sicily. Be sure to try and buy a bottle of the "home brew" Vino Alla Mandorla"! All the friendly cafe managers will likely pour a sample or two.

“Castillo de Castelmola Sicily, Italy”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

Last year I visited beautiful Sicily for the second time. I spent few days in Giardini Naxos, and made a trip not only to Taormina. From bus station I continued to Castelmola, situated on the top of the mountain. The way up was breathtaking, looking at Taormina, Etna, beautiful coast. Small sicilian village is adorable, with lot of restaurants, nice small streets, full of souvenir shops.

“You Must Go There”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

If you ever had a fantasy about a small Sicilian village, sitting precariously on top of a small 2,000 foot mountain, that takes forever to get to --- and once you're there you're in a separate world looking down on everything else, this is the place. If you go to Sicily, a trip to Castillo de Castelmola is an absolute "must". A drive and visit to remember. A short trip from the coast, right next to Taormina. Some nice hotels and restaurants, so you won't be stranded from a little luxury. The drive is a challenge but it's worth it!
