Myself and my husband have just returned from the middle lodge at the stables lodge and I have to say we were so pleased with our stay. I don't write reviews, but this guest house warrants one! From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome and relaxed by the proprietor Janet. She brings you personally to your accommodation and explains how to operate everything (tv, DVD, satellite etc). We stayed in the middle lodge in the Goat shed which was beautifully decorated in modern decor and stone walls. The bed was so comfortable, the wet room bathroom was spacious and warm (underfloor heating throughout) and the bathrobes were comfy. Janet was so welcoming to us, she called a cab for us to take a trip into town ( 10 mins drive ) and gave us a glass of wine while we waited and sat chatting to us. It was lovely. Then this morning she cooked us the most beautiful breakfast and organised our cab to the airport. I would normally stay in boutique hotels, the stables lodge was far superior in my opinion. We would definitely recommend a stay.

Room Tip: The middle lodge is boutique style hotel standard

We stayed in the red room which really is stunning and very comfortably furnished. The decor was in keeping with the style of the property and spotlessly clean. We booked our stay for the Great North Run and it was easy to get into the centre of Newcastle from here on the morning of the run. We were able to have breakfast early with porridge made especially for the runners. When we returned Gary had organised a party for all the guests to celebrate the run which was much appreciated. Breakfast the following morning was delicious with a very good selection to choose from. I would like to have given excellent but just a couple of things not quite perfect. The website advertises slippers in the room but we didnt have any, just the robes. The floor in the bedroom is polished wood so not ideal to walk on in bare feet. I would have packed slippers had I known they were not supplied. We could hear a television after we had gone to bed as the soundproofing is not good. We assumed it was coming from the lounge which was below our room but it could have been from one of the other guest rooms. The other guests also had a problem with sound travelling as they complained to us at breakfast that they could hear the jacuzzi bath in our room. This somewhat took the shine off what had been an excellent stay.
