“Memories for a lifetime!”
Reviewed 13 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We traveled with friends in June, 2013 to Barbados. After visiting for a day several times on a cruise, we decided to vacation here for a week. One of our best vacation decisions ever! We visited during the 'slow' season here and it was just what we needed.

Joe and Marilil from Barbados Villa Services and their team were great from beginning to end, answerIng question, suggesting restaurants, taking care to see the the accomodations are all in line, arranging our maid service, even cool towels in the rerigerator when we arrived. (trust me, after our trip from the airport in the rental car that was greatly appreciated :-). ) Villa 109 Sweet Fuh Days had everything we needed in the kitchen. It was all wonderful!

Glitter Bay is just a wonderful location. We could not have asked for more. The villa had everything we needed. The porch was our favorite thing. We would sit in the mornings, sipping our coffee and watch the peewhittlers and an occasional green monkey. In the evening we sat and listened to the singing tree frogs. The pool was only a few steps away and we enjoyed it immensely as most of the time we were the only ones in it.

A very short walk from the pool was the gorgeous beach. We had chairs and umbrellas assigned to us and they were ready each morning with a towel. We walked up and down the beach. There is about 1km of beach to travel one way, depending on the tide. If the tide is out you can walk a bit further. For us, one of the best things about the beach was the sea turtles. If you want to swim with green turtles, you can swim out from the area in front of the Lone Star restaurant. Several excursions stop at this spot. But, we were there during the nesting season of the Hawksbill Turtle. This was amazing! We were also privileged to witness a hatching one evening. Wow! The area this occurred was covered with tiny turtles making their way to the sea.

The staff at Glitter Bay was wonderful, informative, friendly, and helpful.

We definitely plan to return here!

“Perfect Family Holiday”

We booked Glitter Bay because we wanted self-catering facilities for our children, a separate bedroom for our au pair, and the amenities of a hotel. This is a surprisingly difficult combination to find, but Glitter Bay offered all of this, by way of privately owned, but centrally managed complex. And it was conveniently located only 5 minutes drive to Holetown; the local shopping / town centre.

First and foremost, it is located on one of the best beaches on the best side of the island. This meant sheltered water, soft waves and a floating platform to swim out to. I don't know if the sea had been dredged, but it was totally rock-free, yet two minutes round the corner was very rocky. The beach attendant reserved the same loungers for us each day so no rushing to the beach at 6am! The sea was certainly the highlight of the trip, and we spent most of our time on the beach with the kids.

On the downside, the complex is 20 years old and traditional colonial style, which in European terms means old fashioned, compared to some of the newer developments such as Schooners Bay or Waterside which are all granite and marble. There was plenty of quarry tiles, a concrete pool etc.The apartment we stayed in (109) had been done up with limestone throughout, as had a lot of them, which was beautiful and from a decor point of view, we couldn't have been more comfortable, but the communal areas had merely been maintained not updated. In particular the pool was a little tired. We still swam in it, but it could do with being ripped out and replaced.

Included in the booking was a (one-way) transfer, starter kit of basics in the fridge, daily maid service (6 days per week) and BVS - the management co - were always on hand for any questions down to local restaurant recommendations. The beach bar was handy for a virgin Pina Colada and a chicken wrap, and the daily maid service was great.

All the nice restaurants are located somewhere along the coast road that stretches from Bridgetown in the South, to Speightown in the North (it probably goes to a lot more places, but this is as far as we ventured!). Next time, i would hire a car as it would be quite difficult to get lost and much more convenient for us. We got the bus once, which was an adventure for the kids, but it wasn't ideal for supermarket shopping to stock the fridge, and there were no local 'Tesco Express's' to nip to for a pint of milk, so invariably we relied on taxi's, and the infamous Perry the taxi driver was certainly accommodating.

Lonestar is a short walk away on the beach, and a totally delicious restaurant for lunch or dinner. The Cliffs is another one that you have to visit at least once, but is pricey. Scarlets and Just Grillin were two great little restaurants, not on the beach, which were not just targeted at tourists - we would definitely return to them too.

We took a day trip to The Crane on the South West of the island; spectacular setting and facilities, although it was remote, and with the size of waves hit the pink beach, I would not stay here with a young family. Our boys were 3 and 1 when we went to Barbados and Glitter Bay was just perfect - we will DEFINITELY be returning in the future.
