Vaguely disappointed that all the best known Constable locations were so close together, Had expected the mill and Willy Lott's cottage to be some distance apart.
The complex is very attractive and the riverside walks idyllic on a summers day. I would have liked an explanation of the "automatic" lock and also some idea of how far the mill was by canal and river from the sea.
The car park was free (for the moment) as it is now in NT ownership, it has a couple of very rickety picnic table, something the Trust will no doubt remedy.
The RSPB garden was well maintained but we did not have time to go in.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Dog friendly.

Had a superb guided tour from a very knowledgeable NT guide - and a bargain at only £3 per head! The area is really beautiful. We didn't do boating but it looked like fun. My only quibble would be that the NT restaurant had a rather long queue. The RSPB garden up the road was also nice. We took this in as part of a longer walk from East Bergholt. Excellent day.

Met my parents here for the day, taking my wife and children along. Lovely in every way. Good old 'Constable Country', lovely photo opportunities, country walks, boat trips, tea rooms etc etc. Then headed off to the Red Lion in East Bergholt for a lovely pub lunch. Good food, good beer, good service, good value! We had a great day - one of those lovely English places you must visit!

What a lovely place to spend a few hours messing about on the river. Took a rowing boat out for half an hour and then dried out on the bank watching the dragon flies skimming along. The scenery is truly excellent. Had a walk along the road to Willy Lott's cottage and took in the view of the mill pond which was featured in Constable's famous "Haywain" painting. The only negative was that we could not sample the cream teas in the National Trust tea room as the telephone lines were down and they could not accept credit cards!

The sun was shining but there was frost on the ground. This is a really beautiful spot with interesting buildings to view from various angles and walks alongside the river. The café and shop - and the wildlife garden - added to the interest.
