This small museum dedicated to Captain Cook who went to school in the village, has been revamped and extended. Previously it was all on the first floor but the ground floor has now been incorporated into the museum giving more space and more exhibits. The first floor is dedicated to the life of James Cook and especially his time in Ayton. Downstairs is an extended shop and the volunteer staff who are well educated about the life of Cook and all that he achieved on his various voyages. Entry is free which is a bonus. All in all an excellent museum to visit and one which can be thoroughly recommended even if it takes less than a 2 hour visit to do it full justice..

It's free, really informative and not too big. Great video presentation about Cook's routes around the world, and also the background of where he was schooled.
