“Easy hike with a bit of history”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

The hike up the mountain is nice and paved for easy walking. The views are beautiful and there is a nice temple. As stated before not much remains of the Baekje dynasty but it is a nice hike with awesome views.

“both natural and historic”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

I enjoyed this place. Only after my chat with my Korean friend did I realize the existence of this city. I was more than happy to know that it was the capital of Baekje kingdom. It is said that hills are visible everywhere in South Korea, and that they are not very hall. This hill is tallest I have ever summited. The hiking was not particularly challenging; nor was it a cake walk. What made the hiking easier is the presence of many tourists, some wearing long sleeves to protect themselves from sunshine. When the capital was besieged, scores of ladies in the palace threw themselves from the cliff into the river. The area is rather traditional, hence similar to China. It reminded me of Nanjing, which was at the foot of a mountain, along the Yangtze River, and was capitals of many fallen dynasties.

“Enjoyable Hiking, Few Baekje Remains”
Reviewed 6 December 2012

Buyeo is a city with a historic past. Unfortunately the remains of the Baekje dynasty are relatively sparse compared to Silla. This lack of remains is further exacerbated by the historical capitals of Baekje. Whereas Silla's capital had been Gyeongju for about 1,000 years, the Baekje dynasty capitals changed at least 3 times. Emerging first in southern Seoul, Baekje later moved to Gongju, and then Buyeo (Iksan may also have been a capital).

So while travellers expecting Buyeo County to be like Gyeongju may be dissapointed, by no means is Buyeo not worth visiting. Busosanseong Fortress holds a few remnants of the Baekje dynasty, but what more visitors will find enjoyable is the scenic hike. The river views are pleasant and the pavilions are relaxing.

Taken together Buyeo, Gongju, and Iksan provide a unique and comprehensive view of the Baekje dynasty. I find Baekje's history to be just as fascinating as Silla, but it just takes more time and effort to appreciate. Baekje ended in one final battle in the 7th century, sadly much of the wonders of this kingdom were lost long ago.

“A pleasant and easy hike”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

While hiking around the mud fortress that Baekje used to defend against Silla, you can see Nakwaam Rock where 3,000 women threw themselves to their death when their kingdom Baekje fell to Silla. You can also take a ferry to the other side of the river. There is also a small spring and drinking the water there is supposed to make you younger.
