It is an aging property, with many things being worn-down or broken, not sure how they got their supposedly 4-star-superior rating. Breakfast was not worth mentioning - oh, guess it is, they told me it would be as of 7, and I did not get anything till 8:30. Wifi is not working in the room. There was no hot water until I went down to the reception to complain, the sewage was working so slowly, the entire bathroom was swamped. On the positive side, the bed was large and clean.

We agreed on a certain price with the guy, he did not have change - the next morning he refused to return the change.

I definitely disliked this place and would not recommend it further.

Room Tip: Do not bother to go there.

After a morning of walking around in Volubilis with our small kids we really needed a cooldown in a pool. We went to the Volubilis inn and that was a mistake. Yes the pool was nice and they have a spectacular view BUT they made us change in de toilets. These toilets were dirtier than the average toilets on the peage in France. The music was so loud we could barely talk and everything else was old and broken down. And still the made us pay 360 dirham for a party of five. I don't recommend anyone to go there, not for swimming and not for staying overnight. On the bright side the staff at the pool was very helpful and kind.

Very beautiful view on the ancient Roman city Volubilis.
Allowing an easy access to the historical site, and hicking areas nearby, the hotel is the only one to offer such a tranquility and a safe haver from noisy and boring city life.

Close to the Roman ruins, great views, pool: all sounded good. However, the place needs a thorough update. Rooms are tired, soundproofing could be better, food was so-so, skimpy breakfast. Staff insisted on playing loud music in the bar and leaving all the doors open. Spotty Wifi. This is not a cheap place to stay either, compared to other Moroccan hotels. At half the asking price, it might be tolerable but only if you need/want to be near the ruins. Otherwise commute from Meknes.

Room Tip: a few rooms have balconies

The ruins at Volubilis are just a couple of km outside Moulay Idriss, and they are both interesting, picturesque places to stay, so you have to decide if you want to stay in the town or near the ruins. We (family of four incl two small kids) opted for the latter, and stayed here in September 2013. It bills itself as four star, and it’s definitely a step up in quality than the usual backpacker/traveler places you find in Morocco. It’s close to western standards, for lack of a better term. We negotiated a substantial discount on the room and found we got great value. The hotel is getting a bit old, but still impressive- you can tell it was quite upmarket when built, and it is still charming and impressive. The room was large, comfortable, air conditioned, well stocked, and really clean (very important to us!). Best of all, the hotel is perched on the side of a small mountain/hill such that the hotel patio, rooms, etc look out directly onto the ruins of Volubilis. It was great to wake up early in the morning (OK, not that early...) and see the sun rising on the ruins- really atmospheric. The breakfast too was a step up in quality from most places we stayed in Morocco, and the staff, like most Moroccon staff, were smiling, helpful, and attentive. There is a great patio deck with a pool too. We would strongly recommend this place.
