Owner description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

“Great Castle”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Although this castle does not have the history and ambience of a Stirling Castle or Edinburgh Castle, it is still quite nice. It is a stunning white building on a beautiful estate and it is filled with many interesting artifacts. If you wish to visit a bit more modern castle that looks as if someone could walk right in and live there, then this is the place.
No photos are allowed inside except in the big ballroom at the end of the tour. We did not have time to visit the gardens, so cannot comment on them, nor did we eat there.

“Average Day Out”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Stunning castle, awesome grounds/gardens. Foreign tour guides, can't beat a Polish or French tour guide tell you about your country's history in our national dress.

Lovely gift shop, pleasant helpful staff.

Restaurant, clean, fresh and welcoming, well layed out, plenty options for dining, snacking, hot and cold beverages. Very over priced as is most tourist sites. Don't have the roast beef sandwich, the thinnest cut slice of beef and only one slice.

“Nice castle but there are better”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

This is a nice daytrip, and the castle is beautiful and dramatic, but i found there are better castles to visit in Scotland with a more ancient history. That said, we enjoyed the day and it was atmospheric when the piper began playing the bagpipes outside. The grounds are nice and red squirrels are easy to see.
