Owner description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

“Weather can limit you”

We arrived at this beautiful Castle, it lives up to it's pictures, the house is accessible on the ground floor only, to wheelchair users but there is a room where you can watch about the house, the staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, Café costs are very reasonable and lots of homemade goodies and things to purchase, sadly I could not visit the gardens due to the length of where they are but you do see so much as you come in and go outside, could not do the tractor ride as steep steps, this was fun for all though, the Piper was amazing and a man of fun, he had Peppa Pig on his pipes due to a visitor doing a places to visit fun dvd, we didn't stop long, it is a weather permitting for outside gardens tour but the house itself is worth seeing.

“Beautiful castle & grounds, not the best organised”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

We visited the castle as we were staying at the campsite next door.

First thing to note, you pay at a little booth at the side of the road before you enter the car park, don't be put off by the long queues they move pretty fast.

As national trust & historic Scotland members we have seen our fair share of castles, Blair castle ranks somewhere in the middle.

They have done a great job of trying to display the history of the rooms & their contents, unfortunately they let far to many people in at the same time, this made it very difficult to read the small signs & as it was a 1 way route we got caught up in a wave of bodies pushing from room to room.

The staff were very friendly & helpful & two of them took time to approach my son & tell him some fun facts about the portraits around, which we all appreciated.

Overall, it's definitely worth a visit, just try & aim for a day when it's quiet

“Lovely building”

This is a lovely day out and a wander around, the house is especially nice on a wet day. Although we didnt get a chance to see the Gardens due to the heavy rain.
