I stayed one night and the hotel was clean and the rooms we had were good. they were on the 1st floor. I think all rooms are not the same. The menu is very local but the food was good and the service was good. BYO drinks. The beach in front of the hotel is a bathing beach (no surf) but there are corals. We met a guide (Titus) who takes peole to see the corals and the fish. The water is not very deep so you can walk most of the to the Coral reef. Very quite hotel and has a pool at the back of the hotel. email address for the hotel prgh@sltnet.lk

been here a couple of times but was shocked at their prices- which seemed to have doubled from 30 to about 60 usd-they said it was because of an upgrade but i did not see any difference in the rooms which were quite basic and the food average still there are not many other luxury options in polhena and we did enjoy the pool -it is a buisness orientated places as there has always been other things - weddings/conferences going on which other people may find noisy
polhena beach is lovely but be warned strong currents are the norm -so good luck snorkelling
i have tried and failed many at time

I was impressed by the information on their web site but sad it was not the reality. Small hotel with 18 rooms (9 upstairs) and a pool. Not the friendly reception you might see in other hotels. Even though there is a credit card terminal, they asked me to pay in cash without giving any reason. They were not generous enough to provide us a upstairs room even though all of them were available (may be because I am a local). The hotel doesn't have any meal plans and the staff asked me to order anything according to the set menu provided in my room. For breakfast they have listed several options but the staff was unsure which one is available and string hoppers seems to be the only option available every day which is not worth the price. Don't think they have regular room service and the hotel seems to have a single waiter who is more interested in serving bar near the beach. Room was OK for a local but not worth the price.

We had a room with a smelly toilet that could not be locked from inside. No amount of air freshner could help get rid of the smell that was awful. The extractor fan worked fine but the smell continued. Dirty linen on the beds and peeling wall paint in the room made the place look and feel depressing.
The food was very basic and also very costly. Had to pay for staff errors and was not offered a refund for unpalatable food. Staff was very friendly but not very helpful and seemed frightened to stand up for what was right even though they knew the food was bad. Coffee /Tea is a tea bag or Nescafe sachet and hot water and milk. Cost as much as a brewed coffee elsewhere. I do not recommend this hotel except for the beach which though very loud and crowded was very pretty and safe.

This little hotel was such a treat in a small village setting with a fantastic beach and snorkling oppurtunities. There was sooo much to do outside the hotel, but it was nice to come back to clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. My friends and i (a group of about 6) went Whale watching in mirissa, crocodile cruise along the river, not to mention the lazy mornings on the beach and snorkling. We even saw a turtle while sitting at the lawn beside the beach (wadiya). It's nice to get away from the over priced touristy locations in Galle, Mirissa and Unawatuna, and the beach is so beautiful. It's a local beach frequented on the weekends by tons of people, but if you're looking for a private beach atmosphere the weekdays are best.
The staff is friendly, and helpful.. and the food is so good. We mostly enjoyed local and Sri Lankan cuisine, but one evening feeling a little homesick we got to have a fantastic western meal. All in all a wonderful weekend with my friends. The price was reasonable which was really the cherry on top.

This place has a great location, friendly and hard-working staff, and a very nice pool...so what's the problem? Well, there were a few -- normally we wouldn't mind, but at the price we were paying we expected clean sheets (which didn't get changed after a polite request), working light bulbs (ditto), and a cleaner room. As the hotel caters predominantly to well-off Sri Lankans, most staff speak only limited English. However, they all wanted to be helpful and answered "yes" to each of our requests and confirmations of prices, the latter of which unfortunately led to misunderstandings at check-out. Polhena Beach is nice, and again every last person at the PRG Hotel was very friendly, but if you're going to stay in the area you'll definitely get better value for your money elsewhere.
