“not what we expected”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Thought we had booked umbria mar as shown to us but got put in here, several others had same experience so beware.
The food is good and the service is good too,but if you were expecting a guiet relaxing holiday here then bad luck.
The hotel is full of screaming kids, noisy.

I spent two weeks there (7th-21st June 2014) and the holiday was very much as advertised: large comfortable room, good food (self-served) sunshine and large pools-but lots and lots of young Spanish couples and their rather noisy children-but that's what's for, and very good value.

The dining rooms are vast and noisy and extremely busy-and remember too that the Spanish don't eat till late and ' buggies' are still being wheeled with children at ten at nigh for dinner.
There are very few other places to eat or drink. The two or three are more or less pavement bar/ diners and face on to the main road. There is also a 'shopping mall' but most of the shops are empty-a bit depressing!

The main problem was apart from the beach and pools, there was little else to do.My gripe is with Thomas Cook . The rep' was pleasant but not particularly knowledgeable and most of the excursions (they were only a few anyway and even then back in Portugal. The exception was Seville, but even that was a modified trip as the guide was not licenced so we had to make our own way about.

My advice to anyone who wants to do more than the beach, is to take your driving licence, and do some homework on where you want to go to make the most of you time there.

Room Tip: Rooms facing North (or northish) face an Outlet Factory.

Good facilities, but lot of people in the pool (hard to find a place to stay) and restaurants (lot of noise).
Very good rooms and facilities.
Near beach and lovely places.
Very good relation price/quality.

We just got back from this hotel and we really are very pleased with our stay. The hotel is huge with a large area of gardens, paths, large clean and nice pools. The rooms are clean, quiet and spacious. Food is abundant, not much variety, but delicious. Sometimes you have to change and change restaurants for dining, which is not always convenient, but given the large amount of people who are placed especially during peak months it is perhaps necessary. There are rooms in which hears music from the disco which is on the other side of the hotel and some guests who complained about the noise at night. The beach and ocean are a short distance and a comfortable path through the dunes. The ocean water was a pleasant bathing, fine sand, wonderful exotic and tranquil beach.
Unfortunately, air conditioners are not good at all and could not cool the room. Overall we are pleased with our stay because it has a great beach, good facilities and the complex is located near the border with Portugal and we had a great opportunity to take a trip to this beautiful country

Room Tip: Rooms that are not on the side of the road and disco are less noisy.

The complex itself was great, but be warned it is a place where the spanish go on holiday, they tend to have Thurs- Sun breaks and it does cater for the spanish pensioners who are given a free holiday by the goverment each year( what about that Mr Cameron). The schools in spain break up 3rd week of june to sept so the complex gets a lot more lively then.( KEEP READING IT DOES GET BETTER)Saying that for a good priced beach holiday it did just what it said on the tin. THe transfer is 1 and a half hours from Faro i have had worse. Although you only have one place to eat off season i found the food great, fresh cooked meat and fish, lovely desserts and friut , salad bars and drinks on tap.(TIP) try sitting outside it is a lot quieter than inside.
The bar can get busy so i would get two drinks at a time .
The rooms where just as advertised ,be warned no English tv but good free WI FI so set up your i pads etc before you go. good entertainment considering mainly spanish.
Handy for the beach 5mins walk although the pools where great .
Make sure you visit the WATER SPA well worth 10euros
The entertatinment team where brilliant BIG HELLO to Ivan, Noe, Lorea, Jorge, and Gianni who made the holidayfor us and the whole team who looked after all the children.
So in conclusion give it a go,I would visit again.

Room Tip: 2nd floor pool view was excellant

We have just came back from a week away. Firstly the hotel is outstanding! The rooms are modern, immaculate and the bed is massive. Rooms are cleaned everyday and towels swapped. The pools are great and loads of sunbeds. It is mostly Spanish tourists at the hotel but they are polite and well mannered. The food is fresh and plenty selection. The beach is a 5min walk away and is beautiful! There are a few shops and restaurants also a 5min walk away. Relaxing holiday.

A perfect spot for family holidays with small and pre-teenager kids. During the day a good entertainement with an excellent team both for kids and adults. Near the beach allowing to play with the kids.
