Blazing Donkey Country Hotel
Ranked #1 of 1 Ham B&B and Inns

Enjoyed our overnight stay at the Blazing Donkey. We were lucky enough to be given the bridal suite. Had a delicious meal in the evening and the breakfast was very acceptable.

Do agree that the hotel is now becoming aged. That goes for most quirky out of the way hotels in the UK. Use them or lose them. I think they are a UK peculiarity. Don't want Premier Inns only in main sites everywhere. Our evening meal was delicious. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful. Help yourself. Ingredients were not the best but acceptable, and as we booked this on a Deal offer thought we had very good value for money. Came with this view in mind and was quite happy to buy bar drinks and wine with dinner. The hotel was busy with other customers also on deals. This in itself created a good atmosphere. A great way to keep people employed in these small hotels in and the extra revenue if reinvested might save us from being a nation of chain hotels. . A win win situation for all I hope.

For our first stay in Kent it was only ok. The bedroom was clean, the bed comfy, but the bathroom was boiling hot. The radiator could not be turned off. The main part of the hotel could have done with spring cleaning, though I will admit they did appear as though they were starting to sort it out.
The evening meals were lovely but the breakfasts were dire. We asked twice to have our bulb replaced in the bedside lamp. All the staff were, kind, pleasant and helpful. On the whole, as I put it was ok.

I booked this deal through Living Social as an anniversary present for myself and Husband.
When we phoned the hotel we were told that they didn't have any standard rooms, but for £50 we could upgrade and have a meal on our second night - which we did.
On arriving at the hotel there was no-one at reception, we went to the bar and was told they would find someone, we were quite happy to sit and have a drink while we waited. We were not waiting long, the young lady at reception at first couldn't find our booking and then said that we had arrived a day early, we assured her we hadn't, she said she would have to get the manager.
The first thing the manager said was to ask if we had heard about the storms last night, they apparently had had a bad storm which had caused damage to our room.
We were offered a 3 night break (instead of 2) at a later date. This really isn't good enough, we had been looking forward to the weekend and had already travelled down.
He said that he had contacted other hotels in the area and they were all fully booked, not once in the whole conversation did he apologise!!
He asked how far we had had to travel, (which really doesn't matter) and that the owner had been trying to contact us all morning we had no missed calls on phones. My husband asked what number they had, which then took him about 10 mins of looking at emails and spreadsheets and still not finding it. we asked him why he hadn't tried to contact us and his reply was that he had been very busy with a wedding. I did say to him that I had read a few reviews and this situation had happened before, he said that he couldn't comment as he had only worked there 8 weeks.
The conversation did become heated(obviously), due to the manager being unable to empathise with our situation.
On leaving the hotel the manager said, sarcastically, "enjoy your drive home Sir".
We did drive into Sandwich and rung various places to stay, but all were fully booked, at least 2 of these places knew instantly that we were from the BLazing Donkey as "this happened frequently".
Needless to say we had a completely ruined weekend and ended up back at home.

Today my cousin got married here. There is no baby changing facilities, there was 2 female toilets (both of which were blocked and horribly unclean) the staff were notified of the. Toilet issue but didn't rectify it! The food took 2.5hrs to be served from time being seated to pudding. The food was stone cold! The left over wine was removed from the tables after pudding even though the bride n groom had paid for it. The staff did not look presentable and the manger was wearing trainers!!!! The bride and maid of honour had to set the tables as staff hadn't bothered and groom and his dad moved chairs for guests to sit on For the ceremony. Over priced and a complete shambles of a place. I hope my cousin and new wife can take something good from their special day.

The food and breakfast in the restaurant was excellent, along with the staff. We stayed via a Living Social, hence couldn't and didn't expect too much. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel was located down a typical rural Kentish track, in the middle of no where, which made it very peaceful.
Due to its location, it survives and thrives on Weddings, and indeed, one was held during our stay on Thursday, and another being held on our Friday departure date. The staff told us they are normally maxed out with weddings, and indeed, that week, the only day they weren't hosting one was Tuesday. The wedding was held in a massive marque, and we were not disturbed by it at all, no noise etc. we enjoyed the peaceful and relaxing break.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'stable' rooms which were very basic, with no air conditioning and in need...

I recently booked a Living Social deal to stay here. At the time of booking was told no Saturday nights av so booked half day off work and went on a Fri eve.
At lunchtime on the day, got a call from the hotel to say they were fully booked due to a wedding and didnt have a room for us, but could accommodate us the next night! They offered to book us into a hotel in Deal, just down the road. We have family in Deal, and do not need to stay in hotels when visiting. I insisted they sort something out as we had chosen this hotel and date as a getaway for my Fathers birthday remembrance. On arrival they had a room available after all and gave us a bottle of Prosecco to enjoy with our already included eve meal.
The meal was lovely, the staff (when we could find them) were nice enough and the main building was pleasant. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms are very dated and dusty and full of cobwebs. They could do with a re-furb and update the bathrooms.
Would i return, only if i was attending a wedding there tbh. I wouldnt pay full price to stay here and have dinner, so the deal suited the experience we recieved.

We held our wedding reception here on 13/7/14 and it was the most beautiful day!! Gavin was fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble for him or the rest of the staff. The setting was amazing, the food was delicious the resident DJ - brilliant, played every song we asked him and the experience of the wedding reception was brilliant and all the guests commented on it. This is all, I am sure because of the hard work Gavin and all the staff put in! We stayed with many of our guests and the rooms and breakfast were great! It was amazing value for money as well! Thank you!! I would highly recommend!
