We booked through Living Social for three nights B & B plus one dinner. We arrived to be greeted by efficient staff, who were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and we'll appointed, we especially appreciated the rocking chair. This is the first hotel room we've stayed in that had an easy-to-use TV, which also gave us access to radio. The food was excellent - although my wife felt the lamb was too rare for her, and we had a second dinner there, which was even better. Service was excellent.
We loved being able to park outside our room and sit outside our door in the evening, with or without a drink.
The only small niggle we have is that the pillows were too soft, but that might have been rectified, had we bothered to ask.

Booked this through Living Social (two nights with breakfast and one with a three-course meal included). There were two items that you could criticise
• We were a bit disappointed to find that we could only get the rooms for the dates we wanted by booking a meal for the second night.
• The rooms were a little bit tired.
Other than that, our stay was brilliant value for money. After the enjoyable evening, we spent in the bar and restaurant on both nights we were really pleased that we had booked meals for both nights.
The food was great and the menu had some different and varied choices on both nights.
The staff were welcoming, friendly helpful at all times. We had a great stay and will definitely stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked similar

PLEASE READ ON... I have just come back from the most appalling two night break at The Blazing Donkey, i am not often speechless but i am at a loss to describe just how bad this place is. It was like Fawlty Towers on steroids…
We were initially booked to stay at the sister hotel The Dog Inn, Wingham. By chance the day before my friend called to check something. We were told that we had been 'upgraded' to the The Blazing Donkey. When my friend asked them why we hadn't been informed she was told that the email had been sent to someone with a similar name!
On arrival the hotel looked idyllic, there was a wedding underway in the garden. The cracks soon started to show. We were greeted at reception by a chef in a dirty t-shirt who barely looked up. After a 20 minute delay while they turned a double room into a twin room (as requested) we finally got into the room. The beds looked as though they had been slept in, there was fluff all over the carpet and instead of having a sheet or eiderdown to sleep under we had just a scratchy blanket - no sheet in sight!
When my friend complained she was intimidated by an extremely rude manager. He finally gave us sheets over an hour later. That night I ate the most awful meal i have ever had in the soulless restaurant. Breakast was no better, very little choice, certainly no continental breakfast, and puddles of food and liquid all over the counters.
We spoke with other guests, including the wedding party - they had all had equally bad experiences. We also spoke to someone who lived in the area who told us that no-one local ever visits the hotel because its reputation precedes it. It seems that they rely on 'deals' to keep the business afloat.
In short this place is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Do not be tempted to book a break here, you will sorely regret it.

Room Tip: all rooms are extremely run down, just do not book here at all

Enjoyed our overnight stay at the Blazing Donkey. We were lucky enough to be given the bridal suite. Had a delicious meal in the evening and the breakfast was very acceptable.

Do agree that the hotel is now becoming aged. That goes for most quirky out of the way hotels in the UK. Use them or lose them. I think they are a UK peculiarity. Don't want Premier Inns only in main sites everywhere. Our evening meal was delicious. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful. Help yourself. Ingredients were not the best but acceptable, and as we booked this on a Deal offer thought we had very good value for money. Came with this view in mind and was quite happy to buy bar drinks and wine with dinner. The hotel was busy with other customers also on deals. This in itself created a good atmosphere. A great way to keep people employed in these small hotels in and the extra revenue if reinvested might save us from being a nation of chain hotels. . A win win situation for all I hope.

For our first stay in Kent it was only ok. The bedroom was clean, the bed comfy, but the bathroom was boiling hot. The radiator could not be turned off. The main part of the hotel could have done with spring cleaning, though I will admit they did appear as though they were starting to sort it out.
The evening meals were lovely but the breakfasts were dire. We asked twice to have our bulb replaced in the bedside lamp. All the staff were, kind, pleasant and helpful. On the whole, as I put it was ok.

I booked this deal through Living Social as an anniversary present for myself and Husband.
When we phoned the hotel we were told that they didn't have any standard rooms, but for £50 we could upgrade and have a meal on our second night - which we did.
On arriving at the hotel there was no-one at reception, we went to the bar and was told they would find someone, we were quite happy to sit and have a drink while we waited. We were not waiting long, the young lady at reception at first couldn't find our booking and then said that we had arrived a day early, we assured her we hadn't, she said she would have to get the manager.
The first thing the manager said was to ask if we had heard about the storms last night, they apparently had had a bad storm which had caused damage to our room.
We were offered a 3 night break (instead of 2) at a later date. This really isn't good enough, we had been looking forward to the weekend and had already travelled down.
He said that he had contacted other hotels in the area and they were all fully booked, not once in the whole conversation did he apologise!!
He asked how far we had had to travel, (which really doesn't matter) and that the owner had been trying to contact us all morning we had no missed calls on phones. My husband asked what number they had, which then took him about 10 mins of looking at emails and spreadsheets and still not finding it. we asked him why he hadn't tried to contact us and his reply was that he had been very busy with a wedding. I did say to him that I had read a few reviews and this situation had happened before, he said that he couldn't comment as he had only worked there 8 weeks.
The conversation did become heated(obviously), due to the manager being unable to empathise with our situation.
On leaving the hotel the manager said, sarcastically, "enjoy your drive home Sir".
We did drive into Sandwich and rung various places to stay, but all were fully booked, at least 2 of these places knew instantly that we were from the BLazing Donkey as "this happened frequently".
Needless to say we had a completely ruined weekend and ended up back at home.

Today my cousin got married here. There is no baby changing facilities, there was 2 female toilets (both of which were blocked and horribly unclean) the staff were notified of the. Toilet issue but didn't rectify it! The food took 2.5hrs to be served from time being seated to pudding. The food was stone cold! The left over wine was removed from the tables after pudding even though the bride n groom had paid for it. The staff did not look presentable and the manger was wearing trainers!!!! The bride and maid of honour had to set the tables as staff hadn't bothered and groom and his dad moved chairs for guests to sit on For the ceremony. Over priced and a complete shambles of a place. I hope my cousin and new wife can take something good from their special day.
