“Great Location, Great Views, Great Villa”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The villa is located on the hillside and enjoys spectacular views overlooking Zambrone Marina and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is about a 1km drive to the Marina where you will find two supermarkets, pharmacy, gelateria, a few restaurants and an excellent beach. Zambrone village is about 2kms away and while quite a small village it does have a great butcher shop.

The villa itself is well equipped with all mod cons and is the perfect place to either relax for days on end or to explore Calabria and further afield. Andrey the owner is always available by email should you need to contact him and Claudio, the local caretaker, lives very close by.

Tropea is the nearest large town and is 9kms away. There are plenty of good restaurants, shops etc here with our favourites being:
1. Genius Loci
2. La Lamia
3. La Pentolo d'Oro
4. Lido Calypso (by the beach)
Also, Al Migliarise is an excellent cocktail bar.

Finally if you are visiting Sicilly (Villa San Giovanni ferry port is about 1hr 40 mins away) then ignore the directions on your GPS! (which will take you on a hair raising trip across and over the mountains to join the A3 highway) - instead travel north as far as Pizzo and join the A3 there, more kms but less stress and time!

“Great accommodation with stunning views”

We spent 4 weeks in Villa Costa Degli Dei in early season and it was hard to tear ourselves away when the time came to depart. A great villa in an excellent location high up on the hill side with fantastic westward facing views across the Tyrrenhian sea with The magnificent volcanic island of Stromboli on the horizon.

The Villa is comfortable and exactly as described , the listed photos a very good representation of the what you find , Andrey was on hand by phone , text to assist with any detail . and Claudio the local keyholder always available if needed. You definitely need car here the villa is on top of the hill and the close access road very steep.
The accommodation is spacious and comfortable with plenty of room . We cooked in the well equipped kitchen a number of times , and made good use of the local “cipolla rosa” beautiful onions which are a local speciality. Mix them with garlic tomatoes and the local spicy Nduja sausage and you have a great pasta sauce.

Being early season the weather was mixed but we had enough good weather to tempt us back again at this time of the year. We also had some dramatic storms and a grandstand view as they rolled in off the sea.

The local shops have got the basic items but if you need more then there are good supermarkets in Pizzo. If you need a proper shopping fix , make the trip up the hill to Vibo Valentia . The “CENTER” there is excellent.

Be sure to visit bar Marinella at the station , its a bar/ Gelateria and a great place for a beer or Coffee and ice cream. The footpath behind the station takes you down to a fantastic beach ,well worth the effort.

We visited many restaurants in the area. Beware of the touristy ones especially in Tropea some of them not so good , but do some research and you can find some excellent places .
These were our Top 5

Il Portale in Parghelia ( went back 5/6 times)
La Lamia in Tropea
Le Rose in Constantino di Briatico
Da Barbonne in Santa Maria ( Cap Vaticano)
Restaurante Peppino also in Santa Maria

Exploring the area was fun and we had plenty of time to visit the local attractions. Tropea a lovely old town as is Pizzo . Cap Vaticano also worth a visit.

Scicily is a day trip and we drove down took the ferry onto the island and then along to Taormina a beautiful town on the south coast with Mount Etna in the background.

This was our first full holiday in Calabria and we had a great time . Villa Costa Degli dei was a great place to explore this part of Italy from.

“Great villa in a great location”

The owner has excelled in his attention to detail at the villa. 3 good sized rooms, a quality well equiped kitchen, wifi, air-con, outside pool, BBQ, roof viewing platform.
The villa is sited in a small complex with sensational views over the sea, Stromboli in the distance and stunning sunsets. Very handy having a good choice of beaches all along the coast road to Tropea and beyond.Visit the supermarket as you drive through Pizzo to stock up on the essentials as its 20 minutes each way for a special trip. There are small supermarkets in town but the choice is limited.
I spoke with the owner a lot when we first arrived using "Whattapp" and he was very helpful answering questions.
Tropea is a lovely traditional town where we headed most evenings for dinner. We found nothing of interest in Pizzo and wouldnt recommend the boat trip to Stromboli. It was 1hr 40 mins each way and the crew quickly got to what seemed to be their usual routine of handing out the sick bags!

“Breathtaking views and a lovely villa. Fabulous fortnight.”

From the minute we found the villa, we were bowled over by the stunning views. The panorama was spectacular: the sea, Stromboli and other islands, the coastline and Tropea. The balcony around the villa was wonderful and a decent sized space from which to take it all in and the sunsets were worth watching as well.

Inside was equally lovely. The whole place was well equipped and the bedrooms spacious, as were the bathrooms. The three of us didn't get under each others' feet at all and I would think that a larger group wouldn't either. Upon arrival, everywhere was very clean and well prepared and, with a number of windows and patio doors (again, that view!) it was light, breezy and airy. During our second week, we had two nights in Sicily and we all thought that Degli Dei was great to come back to after time away. We ate out some nights and used the bbq on others - another great facility.

There are many places to visit. We spent our first week going in to Tropea (where there are loads of restaurants for lunch/dinner), Pizzo, the Stromboli trip and so on. Tropea and Pizza are beautiful old towns and worth a visit. We did the longest of the Stromboli trips that lasted all day and to be honest, we spent a lot of time hanging about, so I'd recommend one of the shorter ones. Although, when the sellers of the trip talk about the explosions from the volcano, it's more of a splutter, which you can occasionally see from the villa. When we were knackered after all the exploring, we spent a day by the pool and the villa was just perfect for this. Although there are beaches at the bottom of the hill from where the villa is situated, our favourite was on the way to Tropea by the harbour wall; it was not so crowded and seemed to be used more by locals.

The road network around is good. It's less than an hour to Lamezia airport and we also spent a day on the coast on the other side of Calabria. There's a supermarket on the road that runs along the bottom of the hill, as well as a green grocer's that sells amazing fruit and veg. In short, everything you need is there.

You'd need to hire a car for this holiday but, of course, having one makes exploring much easier. Another thing to note is that we were struck by how cheap everything was. This area is not massively touristy and that in itself is a holiday draw. Things just did not cost that many euros and with the exchange rate being the best it's been in a long time, we didn't spend much money.

Finally - the owner is always on hand via email and his daughter greeted us upon arrival. Both were absolutely terrific, answering any questions straight away and incredibly helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. I would, without any hesitation, recommend this villa as a holiday. We had an amazing fortnight and would definitely return in the future.

“Spectacular views and a really lovely villa”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

With this villa, it's all about the views. The full length of the beach in Zambrone, down to Tropea and, when it's not hazy over the Tyrrhenian Sea, the outline of the volcanic island of Stromboli...all on display from floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area, kitchen and master bedroom. The sunsets are truly spectacular: we spent our first couple of evenings in the villa just watching the sun go down.

The villa itself is just a couple of years old so everything is new and it's well equipped. It's also generously proportioned so even with 5 of us, there was ample room. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking ware too so we had breakfast and lunch on the balcony most days and, with the aforementioned sunsets plus a decent barbeque, we also had many dinners at the villa. There is also a gym room with weights and a cross-trainer but I have to confess that we didn't trouble them at all.

The town of Tropea, only 10 or 15 minutes drive away, is visually stunning with its narrow cobbled streets steeped in history and its abundance of great value restaurants. Our regular routine was an early morning walk along the harbour, seafront and up the steep steps into Tropea to reward ourselves, usually at the Bar Royale, run by a very welcoming mother and daughter, and where my wife developed an addiction to 'aragosta', a layered flaky pastry filled filled with a lemon chantilly cream, named because it is said to resemble a lobster tail.

A trip to Stromboli is highly recommended. Leaving at 1430, it's a 90 minute boat ride and, on arrival, passengers are encouraged to 'make a bath' (they mean 'bathe') from the volcanic rock and sand beach, followed by a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants then back on the boat to see the volcano. Although the volcano didn't erupt on our trip, preferring to smoke heavily instead, all of us really enjoyed the trip. We travelled with Commerci on a very clean, well-equipped boat with very friendly staff.

Andrey, the owner of the villa, is very helpful and obliging, responding very quickly to emails - although nothing went wrong for us. He even offered us the use of yacht in Tropea. We highly recommend this villa.
